Chapter 70 - The Day after the miracle

Chapter 70

The morning after the impossible, Japan awoke to silence.

It was the kind of silence that comes only after chaos the stillness of disbelief. The sun rose over Tokyo, golden light spilling across rooftops that, just a day before, had been dust and ruin. The streets were whole again, polished and clean as though the world itself had hit "reset."

But even with the buildings restored and the skies calm, the people weren't.

The air was thick with confusion, awe, and fear. News screens in every city blazed with the same question:

"WHAT HAPPENED IN JAPAN?"

On a street corner, a reporter clutched her microphone, her voice trembling.

"We are… live in Tokyo, where citizens are still coming to terms with what can only be described as a divine miracle. Yesterday's catastrophe that claimed over thirty thousand lives, somehow— has been undone."

Behind her, families embraced, crying and laughing at once. People ran through the streets, calling names — names of loved ones they had buried only hours ago, now alive again.

"My husband— he was gone— I saw him die— but he's here!"

"I thought it was the end… but the city… it healed…"

"Was it God? Was it the Hunters? Someone tell us what's happening!"

Even the most skeptical newscasters faltered live on camera. Some bowed their heads in prayer; others simply stared into the distance, as if afraid the world would break again if they blinked.

Every station played the same footage ..the moment the man in the sky appeared, clapped his hands, and shouted those words: Requiem of Restoration.

No one could explain it.

No one dared to.

Inside the Hunters Bureau — 10:00 a.m.

The main headquarters in Tokyo was busier than it had ever been. Screens flickered, phones rang nonstop, and agents scrambled across the corridors carrying reports, mana readings, and witness statements.

Takeda stood near the center of the command room, arms folded, eyes narrowed. He was still wearing his dark combat jacket, the dust of battle still faint on his collar.

The miracle had happened, yes. But Takeda was not at peace.

A woman in a navy-blue uniform approached, bowing quickly. "Takeda-sama, the Prime Minister and the President of the Bureau have requested an emergency assembly. The international summit will still proceed, but for now—"

"I know," Takeda interrupted calmly. "Prepare the boardroom. I'll call the others."

11:00 a.m. ... The Gathering of Power

The large hall beneath the Bureau's emblem was vast a domed chamber built to contain high-ranked Hunters without mana interference.

One by one, figures entered.

Each one carried the aura of an SS-rank with Renji and Hiroto among the eleven they were silent and disappointed, yet human in the faint flicker of exhaustion on their faces.

Takeda stood at the head of the long obsidian table. His gaze moved across them eleven shadows of power. Each represented a guild, a city, a piece of Japan's remaining strength.

No one spoke at first. The air was heavy with what they all felt — fear, pride, and humility.

Takeda finally broke the silence.

"Yesterday, we faced something beyond anything our world has ever known."

His deep voice echoed through the hall.

"Gates opened across Tokyo and other cities — not just Class S, but something beyond classification a gate with the same mana scale as the pillars ..

Calamities… that devoured everything in their path. And yet…"

He paused, glancing at the projection screen beside him. The replay showed the golden light flooding across Japan — the miracle.

"We were saved. By a man from beyond our borders. By the Pillar of China."

A murmur rippled through the room. One of the SS-ranked hunters leaned forward.

"That was the third pillar, wasn't it?"

Takeda nodded slowly. "The Pillar of resurrection. The one they call Li Longwei Tain."

The name hung heavy in the air.

Another hunter, a woman with silver hair, clenched her fists.

"So it's true… he reversed death itself. He restored an entire nation."

"And he did it alone," another added, his tone tight.

Takeda's gaze lowered. "That's right. A single being repaired what a thousand of us could not stop. That should humble us."

He looked around the table, meeting every eye.

"We were seconds away from annihilation. Tokyo would have vanished. Osaka would've followed. And before the next sunrise, Japan might have ceased to exist we don't know because the casualty rate was sever people might move out of our country with two calamities happening in the space of 10 years."

No one moved.

No one even breathed.

"But we're alive," Takeda continued. "Because someone outside our homeland intervened. That's why an international summit has been called. The eight pillars will be present. So will every top-ranked guild and head of state. And this time…"

He leaned forward slightly. "We won't be discussing economy or politics. We'll be deciding the fate of our species." All of you were on the front lines you saw something that hadn't happened before

Magic beast were strategic, coordinated with each of them having generals and leaders

A heavy silence followed.

The Door Opens

The great doors at the end of the chamber swung open. Everyone turned.

The President of Japan entered composed in a dark suit, followed by his aides and Bureau officials. Though he smiled faintly, his eyes carried the same exhaustion as everyone else's.

"President Nakamura," Takeda greeted with a nod.

The President walked slowly to the center of the room, placing his hand over his chest. "At ease, all of you. Please, remain seated."

He looked around the room — at the strongest Hunters of Japan — the very people who had fought at the edge of death to defend their homeland.

"Yesterday, our nation died," Nakamura began softly. "And yesterday, we were reborn."

No one dared interrupt him.

"The media calls it a miracle. The people are celebrating. But you — all of you here — know better. You know what we saw was not divine. It was power."

He looked directly at Takeda. "Power wielded by a man from another land. A man not under our command, not bound by our laws. A man who chose to save us — but could have chosen not to."

The words cut deeper than he intended. A few of the SS-ranks lowered their heads.

"We are grateful," the President continued, "but we cannot depend on miracles forever. The world is changing faster than we can understand. Gates are evolving, creatures are adapting, and even the strongest of us have seen our limits."

He turned to Takeda again. "That is why, General Takeda, I have authorized full cooperation with the International Summit. We will share data, intelligence, even mana research if we must. Japan will stand as one with the world."

Takeda crossed his arms, his expression unreadable.

"And if the world doesn't stand with us?"

Nakamura smiled faintly a tired smile. "Then we'll stand anyway."

Reactions Around the Table

The hunters exchanged glances. One of them leaned forward.

"Sir, with all due respect, the gates that opened yesterday weren't random. It felt… orchestrated. Someone or something triggered them all at once."

Another nodded. "If we're heading toward a new age of coordinated attacks, then the summit isn't just a formality. It's survival planning."

Takeda tapped his fingers on the table thoughtfully.

"We'll prepare for that. I want reconnaissance on every high-density mana zone still active. The residual readings from Tokyo alone are beyond anything I've ever felt."

He turned toward the side monitors. "Run the footage again — slow."

The room dimmed as the holographic projection replayed the moment the Pillar of resurrection descended from the sky.

Golden light flared. The man's hands came together.

"Requiem of Restoration…" Takeda murmured. "Even saying it sounds heavy."

A hunter beside him whispered, "To control that level of existence it's not human."

Takeda's gaze hardened. "No. It's what we call transcendent."

We pillars each have something that makes us unique

That is why we are called pillars not hunters

As the meeting continued inside, the city outside was alive with hope and unease.

Children laughed in the parks again. Shops reopened. But every person who walked through those streets did so knowing they had died yesterday ...and had somehow come back.

The world felt fragile now, even under the blue sky.

Takeda placed his hands on the table. "Listen carefully," he said. " I underestimated the opponents I wanted to bring them down for questioning and my incompetence brought casualties. I don't know how long our peace will last. If Li longwei tain's intervention proves anything, it's that there are powers far beyond our comprehension. The next calamity won't give us time to prepare. We move now."

The hunters nodded silently.

"Today, I'll be sending teams to every gate location across the country. We'll check for residual tears — anything unstable. And one more thing…"

Takeda looked up at the President. "I'll personally represent Japan at the summit."

The President smiled faintly. "I expected nothing less."

As the meeting ended, Takeda walked out onto the balcony overlooking Tokyo. The air was cool, the city glowing with life again. He could hear laughter children, families, people thankful to simply exist again.

Renji and Hiroto stood behind him, silent.

As they moved away from the hunters starring down from the window from the bearu massive building

Renji finally spoke. "I still can't believe it… everyone came back. Even those who were gone before the gates…"

Takeda-sama don't you think we should let them know

What happened yesterday was something that was totally unexpected

If not for.. he paused and clenched his fists then continued if not for the other pillar

Everything would be different

Takeda didn't turn. "You're right.... Believe it. But never depend on it. We were saved by mercy, not strength."

We were cut off guard because we didn't know that would happen but now that we know we are prepared

What if they come with another strategy another plan different from the one they did before and the china's pillar can't come anymore! Renji said with a cold gaze

Hiroto looked at him. "Do you think he'll come back the Pillar of resurrection?"

Takeda's lips curved faintly. "He said it was a personal debt. I don't think he will for now ."

The three of them stood in silence as the wind passed over the city.

Below them, Japan breathed again.

But know this ... What happened was my fault I easily could have dealt with her from the start and reduced casualties

I had no idea other gates had appeared simultaneously in the country

Takeda clenched his fists ...!! All because of my selfish interest to question her I was blind and fatalities were done beyond control

Takeda-sama! Renji said with his inner thought

I won't fail next time takeda said with burning fury in his eyes

IF they come with other strategies I will defend humanity until you are ready to face the God's again— his gaze shifted looking sharply at Renji

You are not in this fight alone

You have the pillars

And we fight to protect mankind
