Chapter 8 - Secrets Stolen from the Manor

Silas hid in a dense forest outside the manor. A few days ago, the manor lord had given some beef to the slaves because his son had been admitted to the academy in Essence Grace City. From this, Silas deduced that the manor lord wouldn't stay in the manor for long, so he concealed himself here, waiting for an opportunity.

Three days passed in a blink of an eye. The manor lord, accompanied by his son Leonard, set off to visit his teacher in Essence Grace City. This was the perfect chance for Silas to sneak into the manor.

As night fell, Silas skillfully evaded the patrolling guards. Relying on his memory of the previous infiltration, he arrived outside the manor lord's pavilion. Hiding in the shadows, he seized a servant and forced out of him the location of the manor lord's study. Then, Silas made his way directly to the pavilion where the manor lord stored his books. There were two guards standing outside the pavilion. Silas approached silently, gathered his strength in the shadows, and suddenly launched an attack. His fists rained down like a tempest. Before the two guards could make a sound, they slumped down softly.

Silas gently pushed open the door of the pavilion. A stale smell wafted out. The bookshelves were filled with all kinds of books. He began to shuttle among the bookshelves, eagerly searching for information about this country - the Emerald Aura Confederacy. Finally, he found a thick classic that detailed the general history and many common - sense facts of this country.

It turned out that the Emerald Aura Confederacy was established on an ancient land that once belonged to the Witch Clan. The Witch Clan had mysterious and powerful abilities, but for some unknown reason, they gradually declined. Now, this country was facing both internal and external troubles. In the country, all healthy children over the age of 16 had to go to the Inheritance Hall to test their talents. Only those with qualified talents could enter the academy for cultivation because only powerful cultivators could resist the threats from the Demonic Beast Mountain Range. There were countless powerful demonic beasts in the Demonic Beast Mountain Range, and cultivators were a rare and nourishing delicacy to them. So, every few decades, those powerful beast kings would drive the demonic beasts to invade human cities, and at that time, the flames of war would ignite in all thirteen states. Although the Witch Clan had declined, they still launched counter - attacks from time to time, trying to reclaim their former land.

Seeing this, Silas recalled the demonic creature he had encountered a few days ago. Could it be that there was going to be a demonic beast tide in the Demonic Beast Mountain Range again? It seemed that this place was not a safe haven, and he had to head to the city as soon as possible.

Silas continued to flip through the books and also found records about the Witch Clan on the left side of the Demonic Beast Mountain Range. The Witch Clan was proficient in various strange witchcraft. Their bodies seemed to be innately connected to the power of this land, and their mysteriousness made Silas feel vigilant. Moreover, the currency in this place was gold and silver coins. The price of a slave was approximately one silver coin, and 1 gold coin could be exchanged for 100 silver coins. In addition, there was a special currency for cultivators called spirit stones. 1 spirit stone could be exchanged for 100 gold coins, and in most cases, spirit stones could be exchanged for gold coins, but gold coins couldn't be exchanged for spirit stones. From this, one could see the preciousness of spirit stones.

Silas thought, "I wonder how many the manor lord has in his collection."

If someone else came here, they might have to ransack the place to find hidden treasures. Unfortunately for the manor lord, he had encountered Silas. As soon as Silas activated his treasure - hunting ability, the chairs, tables, and benches around him all emitted little golden glows. But Silas had his eyes set elsewhere. Following the most dazzling golden glow, he walked towards a room and opened the door. It turned out to be the manor lord's bedroom. Just as he was about to enter, Silas noticed someone lying on the bed.

"Damn!" This gave Silas quite a scare. He almost fled the room. Looking carefully at the outline on the bed,

Silas thought, "Could this be the manor lord's wife?"

Just then, the person on the bed heard the sound of the door opening and slowly sat up. The rustling sound of silk rubbing against each other came as she was wrapped in a moonlight - white soft silk nightgown. She was about thirty years old, well - maintained. Her oval face, powdered with pearl powder, glistened with a gentle sheen. Her proud figure in front of her chest was quite eye - catching. She rubbed her eyes and said softly,

Velia: "Dear, why are you back so soon? Did something happen?"

Before she finished speaking, a black shadow rushed in from the door, covered Velia's mouth, and threatened,

Silas: "Madam, as long as you behave yourself, I won't harm you."

After saying that, regardless of the tears in Velia's eyes, he tore off several pieces of silk from her clothes, tied Velia's hands behind her back, and gagged her mouth.

After finishing all this, Silas started to check the source of the golden glow. There was a painting at the head of the bed, and the golden glow was surging out from it. He took down the painting, and there was a small box behind it. Opening the box, he saw several gems exuding a strong spiritual energy and a map inside.

Silas: "So these are spirit stones? There are only a few. What a stingy fellow."

Velia watched the picky thug in front of her, and the tears in her eyes couldn't stop flowing. She just hoped he wouldn't hurt her.

After putting the spirit stones into the mirror space, Silas thought that having money alone wasn't enough. He also needed a suitable weapon. He took out the silk from Velia's mouth and asked softly,

Silas: "Excuse me, madam, where are the weapons in your house?"

Velia quickly pointed out the location of the warehouse. After getting the location, Silas stuffed the silk back into Velia's mouth and rushed to the warehouse. Soon, he arrived at his destination. Opening the door of the warehouse, all kinds of weapons came into view - swords, spears, sabers, halberds, hammers, clubs, whips, and tridents. One wouldn't have guessed that this manor lord was a weapons enthusiast.

Silas said, "Since I'm here, I must pick the best one."

With that, Silas activated his treasure - hunting talent. Suddenly, a dazzling golden glow came from a pile of scrap metal. This glow was the brightest he had ever seen. Silas suppressed his excitement and rummaged through it. As a result, the object glowing with golden light was a broken sword stained with blood and rust.

Silas exclaimed, "Ah, really? Just this?"

Silas picked up a grindstone nearby and started to polish it. Strangely, no matter how hard he polished, the blood and rust on the sword blade didn't disappear at all. Could it be that he had really found a treasure? With a thought, he put it into the mirror space. Before leaving, he also took a treasured sword and a long spear.

Moments later, Silas returned to the bedroom. Looking at Velia, his heart was filled with emotions.

Silas said, "Madam, you don't want your husband to find out what happened tonight, do you?"

In the early morning, Velia lay haggardly on the messy bed.

At this time, Silas knew he couldn't stay here any longer. He left the bedroom carefully, evaded the guards again, and quietly left the manor. Standing outside the manor, he looked into the distance, tightly holding the map in his hand. "Essence Grace City, here I come," he thought.
