Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 : The First Night

Linda sat by the window of her new room, adjusting the sleeves of her nightgown falling from her shoulder.

She hated the piece of clothe she is currently wearing given by her mother to do the duties of wedding night.

But she was determined! She muttered the words," I will not bend , I will not give up my freedom"

He entered without any care , didn't even bother to knock .. he walked with long stride and stood tall by the window

When he finally turned to face Linda, his eyes were cold.

"I don't want you," he said, his tone flat, as if he were announcing a business deal. "You're here to obey. Nothing more. Do you understand?"

Linda lifted her chin, her heart pounding, but her voice stayed steady. "Obey? You should've chose a puppet for that . Sorry to burst your bubble. I . Don't. Bend. "

His lips twitched, not into a smile but something darker. He walked closer, each step slow, deliberate. When he reached her, he didn't made her meet his gaze my titling her chin.

Instead he grabbed her entire jaw , he sharp jaw in her small face perfectly fitted into his large hands. He titled her head upwards towards him .. His grip was firm, not gentle.

"You think you're brave?" His voice dropped lower. "Wives here don't talk back. They serve. They submit. And you—" his thumb brushed the corner of her lips almost mocking intimacy , "—you will learn that sooner or later."

Linda's eyes blazed. "Damn your rules. I don't live by them. I make my own."

His chuckle was soft, dangerous. "A fiery tongue… pretty, but reckless." He leaned closer, his breath brushing her ear. "Careful, wife. I like playing games .. but not for too long"

Linda shoved his hand off, her voice sharper now. "If you want a servant, get a maid" she said it like stating an obvious fact.

" If you want a wife, then treat me like one."

For a moment, silence stretched. Daniel's jaw flexed, his eyes narrowing as though weighing her words. Then, almost unexpectedly, he smirked.

"You have spirit. Most women would be crying by now. You… you want to fight me." His voice was low, teasing, almost amused.

"I don't want to fight," she snapped. "But I'll never bow."

He stepped even closer, close enough that she had to tilt her head back to hold his gaze. "Good. Then let's see how long your stubbornness lasts."

Linda's breath hitched, but she refused to move back. "As long as it takes to make you realize I'm not your property."

Daniel's fingers brushed along her jaw, this time softer, though his eyes stayed sharp. "Not property, hmm? Then what are you?"

Her lips curved in defiance. "Your equal. Whether you like it or not."

That earned a genuine laugh from him, low and rich. "Equal? Brave words for a girl in my house, on my bed."

"And still not afraid of you," Linda shot back instantly.

His smile lingered, dark yet oddly intrigued. He didn't push further, not that night. Instead, he stepped back, his voice calm but edged. "We'll see, Linda. We'll see how long you last."

Daniel's smirk hadn't faded when he finally gestured toward the grand bed draped in crimson sheets. "You're my wife now. That bed is yours… and mine."

Linda's arms folded instantly, her jaw set. "Not happening."

His brow arched. "Not happening? What's that supposed to mean , care to elaborate?"

"I'm not sharing a bed with a man who treats me like property," she shot back. "Marriage doesn't mean you get rights over me overnight."

Daniel tilted his head, his smile faded for a moment and observed her for a moment like a puzzle

"You think you have a choice?" He leaned against the bedpost, his voice low but calm.

"Tradition says otherwise. Every wife spends her first night with her husband."

"Then let tradition sleep here with you"

Linda snapped. "I'll find the chair."

Her defiance pulled a short laugh from him, though it held no real humor. "You'd rather break your back on a chair than lie beside me?"

"Exactly," she said without hesitation. "I'd rather break bones than break myself and my dignity "

For the first time, his eyes flickered with something other than amusement—something harder, edged. He pushed off the bedpost, stepping closer until his presence loomed over her. "You're testing me, Linda."

"And you're proving my point," she countered, standing her ground. "All you care about is control. Not me. Not this marriage. Just your pride."

Daniel exhaled through his nose, his jaw tight. Then, to her surprise, he stepped back. His smirk returned, slower this time, as if conceding a round of battle. "Fine. Sleep wherever you want. But don't think you've won anything."

Linda turned away, her chin high. "I'm not here to win. I'm here to survive. And I'll do it my way."
