Entering Falthrien Academy, a new day of classes proceeded as planned. Even within the usual routine, there were occasional hiccups.
Today, Leylin prepared to conduct spell training with Julia on a platform outside the temple.
Having completed his work on the enchanted arrows, Leylin's magical studies were back on track. His training course focusing on unlocking his third specialization.
Although Leylin had two specialization already, it doesn't hurt to have more. He thought that his studies in magic doesn't stop. There is a famous quote in his previous life, "The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you".
Halfway through the course, Instructor Quithas dismissed the class and arranged for the students to practice spells on the temple platform.
Using an arcane-powered platform, the students ascended. Numerous arcane arrays surrounded the circular platform to prevent spells from being released from it.
Grand Magister Belo'vir mage tower also had these arrays. Normal training sessions typically involved bombarding magic measurement arrays to test the level and power of the students' spells.
Of course, mages, like rangers, also value practical combat. With the instructor's approval, students can engage in sparring.
Leylin stood on the edge of the platform, attempting to convert energy. He was converting fire magic energy into life-inspired magic energy. Unable to find a way in, Leylin was baffled.
Julia's voice brought him back to his senses.
Joining Julia was Quithas, the instructor of Leylin's fire magic class.
"It's been ages since I've seen students engage in a magic battle, especially with two such talented mages," Quithas said to the two students.
A magic battle? Leylin glanced at Julia, then saw the instructor standing beside him. He finally understood why Julia had invited him yesterday.
It was different from his previous understanding of spell training, but now, he didn't mind accepting a magic battle.
After all, since arriving in Quel'Thalas, he had been working in isolation. The opportunity for actual combat was almost nonexistent.
Julia looked at Leylin with eager eyes, knowing full well that Leylin certainly didn't think yesterday's invitation meant today's magic battle.
"Then let's begin, Master." Leylin said, bowing slightly and smiling faintly at Julia.
The nervousness vanished from Julia's face, replaced by a look of confidence. Before Leylin arrived at the fire mage class, she had been Instructor Quithas's most talented, hardworking, and powerful mage.
"Thank you, Leylin." Julia said gratefully. Leylin shook his head and took a few steps back.
This was Instructor Quithas order. When two mages battle, they must maintain distance beforehand; it was a rule and a fundamental principle of combat.
Quithas was serious, not letting his guard down just because the two students were low-level mages. Quithas knew full well that Julia had mastered the [Combustion] Talent.
This talent instantly increases the spells' critical strike by 100% the same concept and effect in the game. Quithas didn't know Leylin well, but he was Grand Magister Belo'vir student like Magister Rommath.
He didn't dare speculate on his true strength. Thinking of Grand Magister Belo'vir's super-magic skills, Quithas broke out in a cold sweat.
"Both sides, prepare! The battle is about to begin," Quithas shouted, standing between the two mages.
The magical clash between the two low-level mages also drew the students' attention. All the students spontaneously formed an incomplete circle.
Julia began to stretch her hands, channeling the fire magic energy within her body.
Leylin stood still, carefully observing her opponent's spellcasting, calm and composed.
Quithas raised his hand, and the battle began. Julia's pale blue eyes flashed, and from between her hands, two [Fireballs] erupted.
Leylin stood still, fire energy surging through his body. Without even using his hands, [Dragon's Breath] emerged in front of him, and a burst of flames erupted, charging towards the two fireballs.
Containing powerful energy, the Dragon's Breath instantly engulfed both fireballs and charged towards Julia. The swift release of the spell, without even using his hands, astonished all the students in the workshop.
Julia didn't have time to admire Leylin's impressive spellcasting. She continued circulating her magical energy, and a [Dragon's Breath] erupted from her left hand.
Even more powerful than Leylin's, it felt like the breath of a true dragon! With a roar, Julia's [Dragon's Breath] clashed with the air.
"Boom!" The two [Dragon's Breaths] collided, scattering a scorching fire aura across the entire platform. Julia felt the strain.
Her [Dragon's Breath] was completely different from Leylin's. She felt deeply that if she hadn't expended nearly half her magical energy, the two would have been impossible to cancel each other out.
Not yet defeated, Julia counterattacked, releasing four [Fireballs] simultaneously from her hands.
Leylin remained standing, unleashing another Dragon's Breath. This time, the fire magic energy was greater than before.
Precisely, it neutralized Julia's attack. Julia bit her thin lips, her forehead gleaming with a blue glow of magic, as if purified.
Julia unleashed her final powerful attack.
[Combustion]!
The spell she had just casted engulfs her with flames without a pause. Leylin also noticed the change.
Sensing danger, Leylin raised his hand, calmly snapping his fingers. A burst of powerful fire energy immediately surrounded the platform.
The surrounding students felt the temperature rising, they panicked and immediately backed a few meters away from the platform. With deft technique, he skillfully unleashed [Flame Strike] + [Blast Wave].
This burst of powerful fire energy immediately caught Quithas's attention. He calmly observed the situation, ready to cast a spell shield at any moment.
Instructor Quithas's concerns were unfounded. Leylin knows what the spell he just casted and how destructive it is. His [Flamestrike] plus [Blast Wave] perfectly counters Julia's pending spell, and Leylin had complete confidence in his control.
Julia simultaneously unleashed her combo rotation [Fireball], [Fire Blast] and then finishing it with [Pyroblast] spells.
"Boom!"
Once again, they countered each other, and the battle ended. Julia's magic power was exhausted.
Leylin walked over to her and pulled her, drained of her magic energy, from the platform.
"I'm not your enemy. Why use all of your magical energy against me?" Leylin smiled wryly.
Julia took Leylin's hand and, with his help, stood up. She leaned her shoulder against Leylin's side, allowing her to stand with some stability.
"If I weren't so serious, I might have lost even more miserably," Julia said with a smile.
Leylin felt relieved when he saw her smile. Julia was not a stingy opponent.
Instructor Quithas also breathed a sigh of relief after seeing the battle between the two sides. He asked the students around him to continue practicing their spells.
"Let's talk about something else." Leylin walked with Julia to a bench at the edge of the platform.
"Will you go to the Ranger Ceremony tomorrow?" Julia asked.
"Of course. This is Vereesa's official ceremony for becoming a ranger. Of course I will go." Leylin had also heard that every two years, the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas holds a Ranger Ceremony to seek blessings for the elves who have just become rangers.
Similar to a coming-of-age ceremony, every elf who wants to become a ranger needs to go through this moment and officially step onto the battlefield.
"Give her enchanted arrows?"
"Yes." Leylin thought of Vereesa, and a smile appeared on his face.
Julia had never seen him wear such a warm face before, and she forced a smile and said, "Vereesa will be so happy."
