Chapter 11 - Monkeying Around

Violet awoke in an unusual manner for the first time in her short life. It wasn't the rays of sunlight that raised her from the land of sleep but instead the feeling of someone touching her. She cracked open one eye and witnessed the small sad one was softly scratching her side. Violet didn't quite know what to do in this situation, on one hand she wanted to bite off the offending limb that dared to touch her… but on the other hand, it did feel quite nice… 'Ohhh especially at that place ohh that's nice!'

Without even realising it Violet began to purr and she felt her hind leg twitch uncontrollably. Realising she was loosing control of her body she suddenly bolted upright and jumped away and stared at the small sad one in confusion and a touch of fear. 'How did she control my body like that!? What wild magics must she possess!!'

Luna did really know why she felt compelled to give skritches to the dragon but it just felt appropriate, she remembered the cat that used to live with their tribe would enjoy them whilst napping and something about this baby dragon just reminder her of that cat. Albite the dragon was considerably more dangerous.. and intelligent. but still she acted very much like a cat!

And then just as the dragon started to purr and its hind leg twitched in enjoyment it suddenly jolted up and jumped away. The look of fear and confusion in its eyes caused Luna to burst out into laughter that perhaps lasted a touch too long, as she suddenly got hit by a stick that was thrown at her by the dragon. How'd did it even throw a stick at me? It doesn't even have thumbs to hold things!?

The morning after that little episode proceeded quite smoothly with Violet going through her normal routine of stretching properly and having a drink. She though back to last night and how after offering the small sad one the meat stick she had seemed to stop being so sad, however she didn't seem to want to go hunting and instead spent the rest of the day removing the hide of the boar and then spent an inordinately long time scraping it with a rock?

Violet didn't fully get it but it at first, but she did realise the reason once the small sad one stopped and placed the hide on the floor and sat down on it. As they now had something slightly comfy to lie on, not that Violet really needed a comfy spot to sleep in. But she couldn't deny it was quite nice, not that she would ever admit that though.

Anyway today Violet was determined to go out hunting again today it felt wrong to have only hunted a single creature yesterday, she didn't even get a single level! Talk about a slow day! watching the small sad one create her hide blanket she walked towards the cave entrance and after getting the girls attention headed outside.

Thankfully the small sad one followed after her or that could have been slightly awkward. For whatever reason Violet didn't want to leave her behind, just thinking about leaving her behind caused that uncomfortable tight feeling in her chest. She wondered if she had some form of internal injury but shook her head after only a couple seconds thought, no couldn't be I haven't taken any serious damage on my chest.

When the small sad one arrived next to her Violet looked at her then gestured around them with her head whilst drawing a line in 3 directions they could head. Either North towards the lake and her old home, East which was in the direction the cave mouth pointed or South. After a moment she scratched out the North line as that could lead them towards more orcs and whilst she hated to admit it Violet wasn't strong enough to take more of them on just yet. Well unless she got the jump on one of them alone like the last time but she didn't want to risk it right now.

The small sad one looked on in confusion for a while before she seemed to get what I was asking, and after a moments hesitation and a longing glance North she instead pointed South, to which Violet gave her a draconic grin and happily hopped in that direction.

Swiftly making her way into the shadows she used her shadow manipulation to cover both herself and the girl as they made their way out on the hunt.

The day started off quite well they managed to hunt down a couple of the Dire mice that Violet thought had all ran away, she allowed the small sad one to fight a small group of 3 by herself to see how she handled them, and she easily took them both out only receiving a small scratch on her leg. Nodding in satisfaction at the small sad ones fighting prowess the duo continued on.

The morning was spent slowly making their was further south, engaging in the odd fight when they ran across something. They started to be able to work together better, it seemed that the small sad one fighting style seemed to be focused on fast strikes and quick evasions, and supprisingly to Violet at least she didn't use magic of any kind. She was quite confused by this as magic seemed to come so naturally to her so she naturally assumed that would be the case for everyone else, especially when they were intelligent.

Regardless for now the small sad one worked fought using hit and run tactics and held the opponents attention whilst Violet would utilise her magics to take them down, she would occasionally get physical if she felt like it though but with someone else to take the attention she found it much simpler to just throw spells from the back.

That last fight definitely took its toll on the two of them, they had just finished off that annoying hawk which was firing bolts of blood at them from the sky when out of nowhere a pack of stupid weasels suddenly charged them from behind. They naturally came out on top but some of violets scales had been torn off when she got piled on by 3 of them at once. She knew it would grow back soon but she really hated loosing any of her scales, it itched like nothing else whilst they grew back!

On the plus side however their teamwork was already noticeably better after just those few fights so Violet was looking forward to getting even better!

They took a break after that fight and the small sad one got about starting another fire. She had managed to find a couple of rocks during our walk and was now bashing them together over a small bundle of dry mosses and bark shavings, at first Violet was confused but then she watched as a shower of sparks flew off the rocks and landed on the moss. Shortly after that a fire was beginning to burn. Excited at the prospect of eating more of this cooked meat Violet enthusiastically helped out by butchering the weasels and cutting them into decently sized chunks ripe for sticking onto a stick!

Violet was about to start cooking them herself but had her meat stick taken out of her mouth by the small sad one as she made some noises and held the stick over the fire herself. Mildly annoyed that she wasn't allowed to do it herself she huffed and curled into a ball besides the girl who let out a soft laugh.

The meal was delightful and Violet truly enjoyed herself, more happy than ever that she decided to take in this weird white furred creature.

However her moment of piece was swiftly interrupted when she felt something hot and wet slap against her side, a moment later the smell hit her. Whipping her head around she identified the insolent fool that dared to insult her by throwing excrement at her and sully her beautiful scales. She let out a roar of challenged that quickly died off as she got a good look at the assailants.

Up in the branches of nearby trees numerous sets of eyes watched them she counted at least 13 sets of eyes around them in a semi circle letting out a low growl and stood up and faced them putting herself inbetween the foes and her small sad one. In response the girl also prepared herself for a fight but looked considerably more nervous that Violet.

Slowly backing up and forcing the small sad one to walk backwards too Violet was hoping that they wouldn't charge them because as confident as she was she didn't think she would be able to fight off this many foes without getting very lucky or taking some serious injuries.

THUD.

However all hope of an easy escape was shattered when a loud sound came from behind her and she quickly turned her head only to feel her eyes bulge as a giant ape dropped down from the trees behind them, this action was swiftly followed by the rest of the figures dropping down as well. The rest thankfully were much smaller but still numbered over a dozen monkeys.

Well this was going to be a tough fight. Despite all her instincts screaming at her that she was in mortal danger Violet couldn't help but let a draconic grin spread as she circulated her mana in preparation for the fight of her life.
