"Home?" Ruby whispered as if those words were alien to her.
Her alarmed eyes darted between his outstretched hand and the tiled floor smeared with the blood of the man he had punched the living life out of...that is, if the unfortunate fellow hasn't died from brain trauma.
Ruby hugged herself tighter, shaking her head, her eyes teary.
Kai followed her horrid gaze to the mess on the floor and said.
"That bastard had it coming for laying his filthy hands on my wife."
"You killed him?" Her voice trembled as she recalled her mother's warning about the Treshvires.
"Not yet," Kai replied calmly, though a storm swirled dangerously inside of him as he stared at the corner of her bruised lower lip. "But I will make sure he never hurts a female in his entire life."
When Kai reached forward to touch Ruby's bruised lips, she flinched like a scared mouse cornered by a hungry wild cat.
