Ruby peeled the phone from her ear, a deep sigh escaping her parted lips.
"What did he say this time?" Elena asked, her forehead ached with worry. She had been eavesdropping on her bestie's conversation while pretending to help pack her suitcase.
"The usual threats." Ruby blinked several times to push back the tears blurring her vision. "He didn't even let me speak. He just ended the call like I meant nothing."
"Don't let his cold reaction get to you, sweetie." Elena approached Ruby and placed a hand on her shoulder. "All of this would soon be a thing of the past. When the time comes, your father will have no choice but to forgive you and respect your decision to be with Kai."
"You think so?" Ruby lifted her teary eyes, shimmering with hope.
"I know so," Elena assured her. "But in the meantime, you have to stand your ground. You shouldn't let anyone push you around. Not your parents, grandmother and most especially that your hypocrite of an uncle."
