Every student stared in astonishment at the figure who had just walked in.
A gentle smile, delicate features, twin braids draped over her chest, and the signature white haori…
"T-The Fourth Division's Captain Unohana?!" one student blurted out.
Satoru leaned back and whispered to Aizen behind him, "Sōsuke, do you think Captain Unohana sensed the treachery brewing in that brain of yours and came to arrest you before you become the Soul Society's greatest threat?"
Aizen: "?"
He scowled. "If anyone in this room is destined to become the Soul Society's greatest threat, it's definitely you."
Satoru almost laughed, but then he remembered Aizen's razor-sharp insight and unnerving ability to read people. A chill ran down his spine.
"...Sōsuke, you're joking, right?"
Aizen gave him a cryptic, half-smiling look. "Who knows?"
Amid the hushed murmurs of the students, Retsu Unohana stepped onto the podium and greeted them with her usual serene smile.
"Good afternoon, everyone."
"I am Retsu Unohana, Captain of the Fourth Division in the Gotei 13."
"I'm here today because Instructor Kinoshita has fallen ill and asked me to substitute for his Kaidō lesson."
"Rest assured, I have some experience in Kaidō and won't hinder your learning progress~"
The students exchanged glances, the room falling dead silent.
"Some experience," they thought dryly.
If even the captain of the 4th Division only has a basic grasp, should we students just go back to the basics?
After finishing her self-introduction, Unohana continued, "Since today's lesson involves quite a bit of hands-on practice, I'll need a student to assist me."
Hearing this, some of the bolder students' eyes lit up with anticipation.
Just the thought of standing close to Captain Unohana and helping her was enough to excite them.
Under the students' eager or nervous gazes, Unohana scanned the room.
Then, her eyes settled on Satoru.
"Would you mind assisting me, young man?"
Satoru blinked in surprise.
Once he confirmed she was talking to him, realization seemed to dawn.
"Sōsuke, after school today, you have to teach me how to perfectly conceal my spiritual pressure level."
Aizen shook his head lightly. "I don't know how."
"Bullshit. If you don't know, why did Captain Unohana immediately see through me? Our spiritual pressure levels are the same."
Aizen sighed. "As I've said, I don't possess the power you imagine. I'm just an ordinary student."
Satoru scoffed and was about to retort when—
From the podium, Unohana smiled and repeated, "Young man, would you be willing to assist me?"
Though her expression remained gentle, the moment she spoke, Satoru felt as if he'd been hurled into a thousand-year ice cavern.
The bone-chilling cold that pierced his soul wasn't from ice-type spiritual particles—it was pure, unadulterated killing intent!
He shot to his feet. "It would be my honor!!"
Watching Satoru's resigned yet determined expression, Unohana nodded with a smile, as if the terrifying aura from moments ago had never existed.
Fortunately, the assistant's tasks weren't complicated—just helping Unohana carry pre-prepared animals.
Under her guidance, the students practiced creating wounds on the animals and then healing them with Kaidō.
Satoru wasn't skilled in Kaidō, not for lack of trying.
In fact, he wanted to master it—after all, the 4th Division had plenty of female members, and becoming a seated officer there promised a colorful life.
Sadly, his talent in this area was mediocre, barely enough to scrape by.
Aizen's Kaidō wasn't much better, likely the only ability that hadn't improved after their spiritual pressure synchronization.
Unohana glanced at Satoru's healing efforts before shifting her attention elsewhere.
As she surveyed the students, she suddenly let out a soft, intrigued hum.
Following her gaze, Satoru spotted Seinosuke lazily healing a rabbit.
Under the green glow of his Kaidō, the knife wound on the rabbit's body visibly closed, fully sealing—even forming a scab—within seconds.
Unohana asked curiously, "Satoru-kun, what's that boy's name?"
"Seinosuke. Seinosuke Yamada," Satoru answered.
"Teacher Kinoshita mentioned his Kaidō talent is exceptional. If he wanted to join the 4th Division, he could skip the exams and be admitted directly."
Hearing this, Unohana showed an interested look.
She stood up and walked toward Seinosuke.
Watching Unohana's retreating figure, Satoru revealed a benevolent smile.
He really was such a good person, seizing every opportunity to worry about his friend's future.
It definitely wasn't because Seinosuke had stolen his fried shrimp at lunch today and he was taking revenge.
These days, good people like him were hard to find.
Sure enough, when Seinosuke saw Unohana approaching, he immediately wore a pained expression.
Just as Satoru had said, Seinosuke's talent in Kaidō was freakishly strong. All the teachers at Shin'ō Academy admitted that their Kaidō skills were inferior to Seinosuke's.
Several teachers had even personally spoken to him, hoping he would join the Fourth Division, but Seinosuke had refused every time.
In his eyes, sitting in a hospital healing people every day was a boring way to live.
Compared to the Fourth Division, sticking with Satoru was far more interesting... Ideally, the two of them would join the Eleventh Division together—just thinking about it sounded fun.
Thus, when facing Unohana, he deliberately displayed an uncooperative attitude.
When she asked him to perform healing, he purposely made mistakes. When she quizzed him on human anatomy, he claimed ignorance.
Observing Seinosuke's reactions, Unohana wore a thoughtful expression.
After a moment, she smiled and asked, "Yamada-kun, do you dislike Kaidō?"
"Yeah," Seinosuke replied indifferently.
If Unohana weren't a captain of the Gotei 13, he wouldn't even have bothered answering.
Unohana continued, "Then, what is your goal?"
Seinosuke smirked mockingly. "Of course, to become stronger—especially in swordsmanship. Kidō and such are too soft and boring. My goal is to become a master in swordsmanship!"
"So, sorry, Captain Unohana, but the Fourth Division can't satisfy my ambitions."
Whether it was his imagination or not, the moment he finished speaking, Seinosuke suddenly felt a dangerous aura flicker through Unohana's smile.
Under his puzzled gaze, Unohana nodded.
"I see. I understand."
