Chapter 88: Putting Faith's Power into Action

In the evening, everyone gathered around the campfire in the Elves' village.

Kurtz placed the three broken pieces of El's Light on the open ground in the centre, the silver sword's body reflecting a faint glow in the firelight.

"The situation is worse than we imagined." Kurtz sighed, his fingers gently caressing the fragments. "El's Light is completely destroyed, and Orger has temporarily lost its power."

Norn carefully picked up a fragment, testing its weight. "Even a holy sword can be destroyed… Is this the power of a god?"

"Hmph, if she can't even destroy a sword, then she shouldn't call herself a god," Serie retorted from her spot beside the fire, arms crossed.

"There's nothing we can do. El's is not Orger after all. It's normal that it couldn't withstand divine power." Kurtz's shoulders sagged. "When we go back, let's ask Duller if he can reforge it."

He had promised Duller that he would make this holy sword, along with Duller's name, famous throughout the world. Now, it seemed impossible.

"I feel like he's going to be very angry," Eric complained, poking at the fire with a stick.

Duller had worked tirelessly forging El's Light. Eric still vividly remembered the proud expression on Duller's face when he handed the sword to Kurtz.

Yet, it hadn't even been a year, and a god broke it into three pieces. If Duller found out, he would jump up in anger.

"I think he should be able to understand. After all, a god caused this." Dwarf Somo spoke up. "Besides Orger, this is the only holy sword that can contend with divine power."

If a powerful expert of another race had broken El's Light, then Duller would indeed be angry, at his forging and at Kurtz's use of it. A god was different. Anyway, if it were him, he would probably be very proud, right? Somo wasn't sure either.

"Oh, what I'm more heartbroken about are the treasures in the treasury. They're all gone!" Eric showed a pained expression.

The situation had been urgent. Kurtz and Serie could only protect the area around everyone, they couldn't shield other places from divine wrath.

Therefore, the God Strike had destroyed all the treasures. Only the magic books that Kurtz and Serie kept close to them survived. All the magic tools he carried were used up in the battle, so their exploration had been entirely in vain.

"Come on! You're still heartbroken about that. Learn from me, a Dwarf, who hasn't even felt heartbroken yet." Dwarf Somo slapped Eric's back in annoyance.

When it comes to being angry, he, the true Dwarf, should be angry. Why are you upset?

"Cough cough! I'm just feeling angry for you!" Eric chuckled awkwardly, rubbing his shoulder.

"I'm sorry!" Olivia sat beside Kurtz, her silver wings folding tightly against her back as she lowered her head to apologise again.

"Don't lower your head now, Your High… cough cough, don't mind him." Kurtz quickly spoke to clear the air, shooting Eric a warning glance.

"Hmph! You're quite open-minded." Serie pouted. She sat on Kurtz's other side and naturally understood that Kurtz didn't intend for everyone to pursue this matter further.

"Alright! Out with the old, in with the new, isn't that right?" Seeing his elf friend unhappy, Kurtz quickly rubbed her small head to comfort her.

"Don't touch my head, you idiot!" Serie gently shook her head in protest, though the corners of her mouth twitched upward despite her complaints.

"Out with the old, in with the new? That's a good saying." Norn muttered the phrase thoughtfully, making a mental note to add it to his magic book later. "Actually, I wanted to ask, what is the source of a god's power? Miss Olivia."

"Part of it comes from the power of faith, most of it is the goddess's own power." Olivia gently stroked her silver wings. "Just like how our Skywing Clan's power of faith can enhance the Goddess's power, the Goddess's own power is the foundation. It's the same for the Elves."

The power of faith is only a small part of a god's power.

"So, even if we cut off the false god's source of faith, she will still possess powerful divine power?" Serie mused, her brow furrowing in concentration.

"Yes," Olivia nodded, "there will still be some effect. It's just that we can't possibly cut off this connection."

Currently, everyone speculates that the false god is connected to the demon race; they cannot possibly kill all demons, as such a task would be unrealistic.

Kurtz suddenly thought of something, his eyes brightening: "Then, is it possible to use magic to cut off the connection between the Goddess and the demon race?"

Could he even reverse this connection to transfer the power of faith to himself? However, this suggestion was too shocking, and he did not voice it aloud.

"I have never heard of such magic." Olivia's wings shifted uncertainly.

"Then I'll try."

"Do you have any ideas?" Serie asked, leaning forward with interest.

"I do have some, but I'd rather try another method." Kurtz suddenly stood up: "I'm thinking, can I use this power of faith?"

Olivia's wings trembled slightly: "You mean?"

"Olivia, you are my familiar now." Kurtz opened the holy scripture. "Theoretically, I can also use this power of faith."

He was still too weak now. Even if it was only Olivia's faith, Kurtz wanted to try harnessing it.

"Are you crazy?" Serie quickly grabbed his arm. "How can a human body withstand the power of faith? There is no record of this in history!"

"Under normal circumstances, it's certainly not possible." Kurtz pointed to a specific passage in the holy scripture. "This describes a magic that can temporarily store the power of faith in a holy object."

Ordinary creatures, whether Elves or Skywing Clan, cannot withstand the power of faith. Only gods in this world can absorb this power without consequence.

Therefore, Kurtz decided to adopt an unconventional method.

"I want to use the fragments of El's Light as a container to hold this power." His voice grew more confident as he explained. "I always want this sword to be passed down forever, as a beacon of humanity's beginning in this world, so I naturally can't let it perish here."

Olivia leaned in to examine the scripture passage: "That... that maybe feasible, I am not fully sure, I can only say it will be very dangerous."

The magic in the original scripture involved a god personally infusing the power of faith into the container, so there would naturally be no problems. Now, Kurtz was going to attempt it himself, without divine guidance or protection.

This was something no one had ever done, so no one knew how dangerous this would be.
