Chapter 120 - Chapter 120: Let Kraft Bear This Heavy Honor

Chapter 120: Let Kraft Bear This Heavy Honor

Leaving the suffocating dead zone of Godfall Land, even the starlight, which had previously gone unnoticed, became gentle.

Serie's steps were light, her golden hair gently bouncing in the moonlight. The contrast between the cursed darkness they'd escaped and this peaceful night felt almost dreamlike.

She was excitedly discussing the upcoming adventure plans with Kurtz. It was said that in the far north, there was a very ancient magical ruin, which might contain magical knowledge that even elves had never seen.

However, it was very dangerous there now, having completely become a Demon King's City. The demons had even established a true kingdom there and elected a Demon King.

Serie found the demons' actions quite interesting. It wasn't bad to bring some sense of crisis to this world appropriately. But the premise was that it had to be within a reasonable range.

Serie hated one-sided wars, just like when the demons were suppressing the allied forces earlier. If Kurtz hadn't intervened then, the demons might very well have achieved victory. This was something Serie would never allow to happen.

Kurtz smiled as he listened to Serie's narration, then asked her about their companions.

"By the way, do you know anything about the others?"

"I do, but I've never gone to see them. I actually went to see Norn's coronation, but only from a distance."

So Elf Miss was there at the time.

Kurtz remembered Norn complaining to him earlier that, despite it being such a joyous occasion, only Somo had shown up. The dwarf's presence had been appreciated, but Norn had clearly hoped for more familiar faces in the crowd.

Norn was just casually complaining, like friendly banter between good friends, without any real dissatisfaction. If he knew Serie had been there, he would probably be very happy.

However, it seemed Serie didn't know about Eric. After the joy of reunion faded, thoughts of responsibility began to surface. He needed to tell Serie about Eric.

"Serie, I have something to tell you, it's about Eric."

Serie's steps paused, and she turned her head, her eyes slightly confused. "Eric? Speaking of which, I haven't heard any news about him for the past decade or so, even though he used to be quite active."

Thirty years ago, two humans who adventured together and taught magic, appeared on this continent. These two were Norn and Eric.

Norn told the people in every village he passed through about his idea of creating the first human nation, thus earning him the title of Saint King Noen.

Eric, on the other hand, selflessly taught others all the magic he knew, earning him the title of Sage. At that time, some wanted to call him Great Sage, but Eric refused. He knew that only Kurtz could truly bear the title of Great Sage. He was merely someone who borrowed the other's knowledge to continue his will.

At that time, the two were quite famous on this continent, and even Serie had heard of them. However, fifteen years ago, Serie stopped hearing any news about Eric.

She had thought he should be by Norn's side, helping him build the human nation, but now it seemed that was not the case.

"Have you heard the name First Demon King Asmodeus?"

Serie nodded. His name was very well-known.

Not only her, but any race on this continent that wasn't particularly isolated knew his name. In some races, just mentioning his name could make crying children stop weeping. The name Asmodeus had become synonymous with nightmares.

"Could it be?" Serie seemed to suddenly think of something, looking at Kurtz with disbelieving eyes.

Eric disappeared fifteen years ago, and the Demon Lord Asmodeus also appeared fifteen years ago, making it hard for Serie not to suspect.

"Yes," Kurtz admitted Serie's guess. "Eric is Demon King Asmodeus."

He told Serie as clearly as possible everything he had heard from Norn about Eric and how he had been corrupted. The words came slowly, each revelation more painful than the last: Eric's gradual withdrawal, his unexplained disappearances, the growing darkness that seemed to follow in his wake.

Serie listened, then fell silent. She was not entirely insensitive to human emotions. It was just that the long life of elves often led her to completely detach herself when viewing certain emotions, thus exhibiting a near-cold objectivity and indifference.

She tilted her head slightly, seemingly processing the information, without much expression on her face, more in thought about something.

"So," she began, her voice calm, "he is now the Demon King, a being that will bring danger to the world?"

"You could say that," Kurtz tried to defend his former companion, "but he is also a victim. It was the goddess's power that twisted and corrupted him."

"So what are you going to do?" Serie asked directly. "Find him, and then... kill him?"

Serie understood that Eric was beyond saving. How terrifying was the goddess's corrupting power? If even Eric struggled for thirty years because of corruption, then what about Eric?

Kurtz looked at her deeply, then shook his head. "No, I think Norn should decide what to do."

"Norn?" Serie was a little surprised. "Why?"

"Because he is Eric's best friend. Although we are also his companions, in this matter, I would rather get his choice."

He paused, then added, "And even if Norn makes the same choice as you, I will have Kraft execute it."

"Kraft?" Serie's brows furrowed slightly. "Can he do it?"

Kraft was indeed very strong. As a warrior, he was one of the best among the elves. But now, with the blessing of the goddess's power, Eric's strength had been raised to an unimaginable level. Otherwise, it would have been impossible to 'convince' so many demons to become the undisputed Demon King.

"It's alright. By then, I will analyse the teleportation array used by the demons back then. When Kraft arrives at the Demon King's City, I will personally take action!"

"Oh!?" Elf Miss became interested. "How do you plan to do it? It sounds very interesting."

"Well, that's a secret for now."

"Hmph!" Hearing that the man didn't intend to tell her, Serie was a little unhappy, but she didn't press further. Instead, she remembered something, showing a rare trace of something similar to sympathy.

"Isn't what you're doing too cruel to Kraft?"

A former youth, corrupted and twisted into the Demon King, having the elf he viewed as a senior and hero deliver his death sentence, this was undoubtedly a very cruel thing. The weight of such an act would follow Kraft for the rest of his immortal life.

"This is a necessary sacrifice. Kraft still owes me a promise, so let this offset it. Besides," his eyes instantly sharpened, "I will not push the matter of letting Eric rest in peace onto anyone else."

A flash of understanding passed through Serie's eyes. "So it seems you don't intend to enjoy the honour of saving the world again."

Killing the First Demon King and saving this world from his danger was indeed a great honour.

"No need!" Kurtz's tone was very calm. "I don't need such honour."

Serie did not continue to persuade him, but her next words made Kurtz's heart tighten.
