Chapter 157 - Ascension in the Metaphysical Plane

A year had passed. In that time, Lucien had spent himself fully within the Metaphysical Plane, studying, feeling, probing, and shaping. He had come to understand its living essence—not just its rules, but its consciousness. The plane wasn't inert. It wasn't just a space of potential. It breathed, it responded, it lived, and now it obeyed him entirely.

Null, the nine-headed snake born from the World Tree's branch, had fully awakened. Its massive, sinuous form coiled and uncoiled through space, each head radiating an aura of consciousness and power. Lucien smiled faintly as he looked at it, noting the subtle patterns of its thoughts. It's more than a guardian now. It's a partner, aware and sentient beyond my expectations.

And then there were the wings.

Lucien had not sought them, but in this metaphysical environment, as he evolved, a pair of wings emerged—vast, iridescent, shimmering with the colors of collapsed stars, fragments of time, and pure potentiality. Each feather seemed alive, each movement bending a subtle thread of reality. He flexed them casually. Practical and stylish. Good enough.

Lucien chuckled softly, turning his gaze outward, not at Null or the plane, but at you, the reader.

"Ah… yes, you there. Wondering how I got here? How a 'mere protagonist' can walk through realms older than existence, bend the roots of the World Tree, and casually summon a metaphysical snake? Sit tight. I am the Sole Exception. Rules bend around me because I exist outside them. Potential itself takes me seriously. Enjoy the view—I'm just getting started."

He flexed a hand lazily, and a faint ripple of energy stretched toward the boundaries of your understanding. "Don't blink. Or… maybe blink. It doesn't matter. I'll keep going whether you can see it or not."

With Null fully awakened and wings unfurled, Lucien felt the Metaphysical Plane's entirety respond. Threads of potential snapped into his perception, stars of pure thought aligned to his will, and streams of causality shimmered like glass, reflecting his intentions.

He could create. He could destroy. He could pause, rewind, accelerate, or twist any reality, thought, or potential here.

He tested it subtly, touching a floating fragment of light. It expanded into a miniature universe, folding in on itself, then branching into three separate realities before stabilizing perfectly. He smiled. "Yes. That will do nicely."

Lucien looked outward, beyond the Metaphysical Plane, toward the universe Kaelith and Altherion hailed from—a realm alive with beings who could rival him if he were not restraining himself.

"This is where the true meat of this arc begins," Lucien murmured, wings stretching wide. "We're leaving the trivial, the mundane, the familiar. Here, there are entities that could actually challenge me… if I allow them. Controlled power, carefully balanced. Let's have some fun."

He descended gracefully into their universe. Here, the laws were different—more structured, more human-scaled, yet layered with metaphysical potential. Beings here could fight, strategize, and bend laws, but none yet understood the scope of the Metaphysical Plane.

Kaelith hovered nearby, still exuding his usual arrogance, but now respectful. "You look… different. Wings and a snake? Stylish."

Lucien smirked. "Oh, this is just casual wear. You're about to see what full metaphysical dominion looks like… lightly restrained."

Altherion floated beside him, arms crossed, his usual calm but slightly amused. "Lucien, you've fully integrated with the plane. It listens to you now. But remember, the beings here are still strong. You must temper your presence for now, or the universe could collapse under your casual steps."

Lucien chuckled. "Don't worry. I've always liked a little chaos… carefully curated, of course."

Lucien's inner voice noted:

Power will be controlled for the purposes of this realm. Beings here are human-based in appearance and mentality, though layered with metaphysical potential. He will allow them to experience genuine combat, letting his ego have fun while keeping the narrative… spicy. All personalities remain intact: Kaelith arrogant yet playful, Altherion measured yet amused, Lucien cool, teasing, meta-aware.

Lucien flexed his wings, Null coiling around him, and smiled.

"Time to explore. Time to play. Time to see who can actually give me a run for my money… even if only for fun."

He looked outward, toward the unknown cosmos of Kaelith and Altherion's universe, and for the first time, allowed himself a small laugh—a mix of excitement and curiosity, the thrill of a new canvas to manipulate.
