Chapter 470: Shisui's Life Mission Settlement
"I, Shisui, battle…" Inabi was still dazed even after the referee announced the result.
The fight had ended far too abruptly.
"Inabi, I'm sorry, but this time I have to go all out." Shisui apologized silently in his heart.
Normally, even against strangers, Shisui would avoid making someone lose too badly. He would hold back where he could.
But this time was different. This time, Shisui wanted every Uchiha to understand one thing clearly.
Uchiha Shisui was strong. Strong enough to stand above many Uchiha jonin.
Fugaku's eyes flickered. He had not expected Shisui to give him such a pleasant surprise.
With what Shisui had shown so far, he already had more than enough power to sweep the entire clan and take first place in the martial arts tournament.
"Elder Shin, it looks like Shisui will most likely take first place," a dove faction elder said with a chuckle. "These young ones are truly outstanding. If I had to guide them, I'd feel a lot of pressure."
The selection of guides was not decided by the elders themselves. Before the tournament officially began, the elders drew lots and were split into two guiding groups: one with four, and two with three.
Under Fugaku's quiet manipulation, Shin ended up in charge of the first and fourth groups.
Originally, guiding the first place winner was a good thing. It could leave a deep impression on an exceptional junior. But if the first place winner was too strong, it was not necessarily a blessing. When strength was too close, guidance became difficult.
"Shisui truly is outstanding," Shin said, expression flat.
Even if he did not like Shisui, he had to admit it. Shisui was among the most brilliant geniuses in the clan's history.
"Still, with my years of training experience, I believe I can offer him something," Shin added calmly.
He also had a three tomoe Sharingan, trained for over a decade. Shisui's Sharingan genjutsu, the kind that instantly dropped Inabi, would be useless against him.
He refused to believe an eight year old could surpass decades of shinobi experience. If he won, he could dress it up with a grand reason and call it a proper guidance match.
As time passed, Uchiha were eliminated one after another. The tournament moved forward.
Throughout it all, Shisui displayed suffocating suppression.
No matter who his opponent was, Shisui only needed to activate his three tomoe Sharingan and cast a genjutsu. His opponents fell instantly.
Some Uchiha tried to lower their heads or fight with closed eyes. But unless they had trained for that style specifically, it crippled their combat ability. And even then, they still could not escape being defeated in a single exchange.
"Final match of the tournament: Shisui versus Yawei!"
Yawei took a deep breath and stepped into the arena.
He had already accepted reality. He was no match for Shisui. He only wanted to lose without looking too pathetic.
Shisui walked to the opposite side, calm and steady. To him, the tournament was only a warm up. His real target was Elder Shin.
"Begin the battle!"
The moment the referee gave the command, Yawei activated his two tomoe Sharingan.
Facing Shisui, he did not dare to hesitate. If he failed to activate his Sharingan immediately, he feared he would end up like the chunin earlier, struck down by a glance.
But what happened next was something Yawei never imagined.
Just like every match before, Shisui activated his three tomoe Sharingan and looked straight at him.
And Yawei, with his Sharingan active, looked back.
Their eyes locked.
A boundless sea of blood flooded Yawei's vision.
"You lose."
When Yawei snapped back to his senses, Shisui was already beside him, a kunai pressed to his neck.
"How is that possible?" Yawei's heart slammed against his ribs.
He was not a genin. Not a chunin.
He was a jonin, with a Sharingan.
How could Shisui defeat him with a single glance?
The entire venue fell silent again.
Every gaze fixed on Shisui as if he had become something terrifying and unfamiliar.
"He's reached this level already?" Inabi was shaken to the core. "Even Yawei, a jonin, can't survive a single exchange with him."
If this had been a real battlefield, Yawei would already be dead.
"Something's wrong," Shin muttered, eyes narrowing. "His genjutsu, his dojutsu, it shouldn't be this strong."
Instantly defeating a chunin was one thing. Instantly defeating a Sharingan jonin was absurd.
Even Shin, after decades of training, could not accomplish that.
If the opponent were an ordinary foreign jonin without a Sharingan, perhaps. But an Uchiha with an active Sharingan had strong resistance to genjutsu.
"Genjutsu like that, plus Fire Release…" Fugaku was secretly stunned. "It seems Shisui is stronger than Obito."
Fugaku had thought that after that night, Shisui could no longer surprise him.
Shisui proved him wrong again.
"Thanks to Teacher Mugetsu's ninja tool." Shisui watched the shifting expressions around him and nodded in satisfaction.
His true genjutsu level was not enough to instantly defeat an Uchiha jonin with a Sharingan.
But he had the tool Teacher Mugetsu gave him.
Shisui had exploited the tournament's structure.
During every break, he continuously injected chakra into the bent spoon to strengthen his Yin Release, then refined his chakra to restore his condition.
Before the final began, Shisui had poured most of the chakra in his body into the spoon.
That was why his glance carried such overwhelming force.
If Shisui fought Yawei normally, the chakra needed to defeat him would not exceed what he had just spent strengthening the tool. But Shisui wanted shock. He wanted a single, crushing, decisive blow.
So he used this method.
After the first place winner was decided, the guidance phase did not begin immediately.
The higher ups first scored and selected third and fourth place, then gave a short speech about learning from the top four. Only after that did the guidance matches begin.
Shisui was more than happy with the delay.
It was perfect time to strengthen the bent spoon further.
If this were a true spar between disciples, Shisui would never use such a method.
But if the opponent was an elder who harmed the clan's interests for his own gain, Shisui did not mind using a little trick.
"Elder Shin, please guide me," Shisui said politely.
"With your strength, I can't guide you much," Shin replied carefully. "At best, I can share some experience I've accumulated over time."
Shisui's final match had left Shin genuinely unsettled.
As their bout was about to begin, every Uchiha present stared at the empty arena, anticipation thick in the air.
On one side stood Shisui of the Body Flicker, the child who had recently shaken the clan.
On the other stood Shin, an elder with authority and status.
Either way, it was worth watching.
"This is going to be intense. Shisui dropped Yawei with one genjutsu. Even if Shin wins, it won't be easy."
"Hard to say. Shin has decades of experience. Shisui's genjutsu won't work on him. If his strongest technique becomes useless, Shisui will struggle."
The majority favored Shin.
A genius was still only a genius until he became a true powerhouse.
Shin might not be a legend across the shinobi world, but among the Uchiha jonin, he was absolutely a strong figure.
"How does Shisui's Fire Release compare to his genjutsu?" Inabi fell into thought.
Before fighting Shisui today, Inabi believed Shisui's greatest strength was Fire Release.
If Fire Release was still Shisui's true foundation, then even if Shin won, it would not be an easy victory.
"What surprise will you bring next, Shisui?" Fugaku stared at Shisui, yet his thoughts drifted to Hayate, the man known as Mugetsu, who was riding a wave of popularity.
After that night's talk with Shisui, Fugaku had thought long and hard.
How had Shisui grown into this?
He even went to ask Shisui's uncle, Nobuhiro.
In the end, Fugaku reached one conclusion.
Teacher Mugetsu's teaching accounted for a massive part of it.
Many of Shisui's abilities could not be learned at the academy, nor within the Uchiha clan itself.
"Start!"
Shin gathered chakra into his eyes and activated his Sharingan. A scarlet three tomoe pattern spun into clarity.
Shisui activated his three tomoe as well, but this time he did not cast genjutsu immediately. Instead, he burst forward with the Body Flicker.
"So he hasn't grown complacent from constant victories," Shin thought.
He exploded chakra through his legs and surged forward to meet him.
If Shisui tried to solve everything with genjutsu, it would only prove his combat level was shallow, relying on brute force rather than true skill.
Bang. Bang.
In less than half a minute, their figures flashed again and again, clashing in rapid close quarters exchanges.
"As expected, an elder won't be weak." Shisui tested the rhythm and quickly confirmed it.
Shin's taijutsu was solid.
Shisui's conclusion was expected.
Shin's was the opposite.
"His taijutsu is this good too?" Shin frowned in confusion. "How did he train?"
Shin originally believed Shisui had poured all his time into genjutsu and Fire Release.
Only after trading blows did he realize he was wrong.
Shisui's taijutsu was not merely decent.
His physique was absurdly strong, far beyond peers.
Shin did not know Shisui's Breathing Technique had already reached the Constant State. It did not just train efficiently, it continuously strengthened the body.
In the end, Shin could only attribute it to one thing.
Shisui's talent was monstrous.
Realizing his original approach would not work, Shin shifted into his usual combat rhythm.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu!"
He created distance, formed hand signs, gathered chakra, and exhaled a blazing sphere toward Shisui.
Orange yellow flames condensed into a massive, searing fireball that roared across the ground.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu!"
Shisui calmly mirrored the hand signs and answered with his own fireball.
Boom!
The two huge fireballs collided, erupting into a fierce explosion of heat and light.
Flames surged upward.
The glare struck the faces of the Uchiha watching nearby, forcing many to squint.
Neither fireball yielded. They burned against each other, then both dissipated into the air, leaving only scorched earth behind.
Shin's expression shifted.
A clash of the same nature transformation was the clearest measure of control and power.
That meant Shisui's Fire Release might already be on par with his own.
Almost every Uchiha specialized in Fire Release.
Watching that exchange, many unconsciously opened their mouths, stunned.
"Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu!"
Shin suppressed his emotions and pressed forward, not allowing himself to hesitate.
"Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu!"
Shisui became his mirror again, answering with the same technique, nullifying Shin's follow up Fire Release once more.
Fine sweat beaded on Shin's forehead.
If this continued, even if he did not lose, it would still be humiliating.
This was guidance, a spar.
Not a battlefield life and death match.
But the more pressure he felt, the more Shin forced himself to stay calm. Panic would create mistakes. Mistakes would create openings.
"Think," Shin told himself. "What weakness does Shisui have?"
No matter how talented Shisui was, he was still an eight year old boy.
His chakra reserves and stamina had to be inferior.
That thought struck like a spark.
The more Shin considered it, the more convinced he became.
Outlasting a child was not glorious, but losing to Shisui would be far worse.
With his direction set, Shin relaxed.
He continued trading ninjutsu to drain Shisui, while his Sharingan carefully observed every shift in Shisui's condition.
Just as Shin predicted, as the intensity rose, Shisui's condition began to decline.
His chakra and stamina were being depleted.
Seeing it, Shin's heart surged with excitement.
Victory came into view.
"Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Jutsu!"
As Shisui tried to close the distance, Shin unleashed a fire dragon, intending to continue burning away Shisui's remaining strength.
But Shisui did not stop.
He did not form hand signs to block with Fire Release.
Instead, he dashed straight forward.
"What is he doing?" Shin's mind snapped cold.
The Great Dragon Fire Jutsu could be controlled to a degree.
But its flexibility came with a trade off.
Its attack range was narrow.
Shisui looked as if he intended to take the technique head on with his body.
Shin did not like Shisui, but Shisui was still a rare genius of the clan. If something went wrong, the loss would be enormous.
For a split second, Shin considered steering the fire dragon away.
Then Shisui collided with it.
Every Uchiha's pupils contracted.
Fugaku even rushed forward instinctively.
And then something shocking happened.
Bang.
A dull impact echoed across the arena.
Shin flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing hard into the ground.
Whoosh.
A kunai followed, stabbing into the earth beside him.
Shisui remained where he stood.
He patted at the flames licking his clothes, then let out a faint breath.
His chakra was not enough to cover his entire body with Armament Haki.
Luckily, the Great Dragon Fire Jutsu had a narrow range.
Otherwise, he would never have dared break through it for a surprise strike.
From the very beginning, Shisui had intentionally guided Shin into a battle of attrition.
His goal was simple.
Make Shin relax, make him believe the outcome was decided, then end the match instantly with a punch reinforced by Armament Haki.
If Shisui tried to win through Fire Release and genjutsu alone, it would be difficult, full of uncertainty.
But with the bent spoon's amplification, his Armament Haki was stronger than usual.
That was why he chose this strategy, high probability, high shock, and decisive.
"Shisui, are you alright?" Fugaku rushed up and asked urgently. "Should I send you to the hospital?"
Fugaku did not know what technique Shisui had used, but Shisui had clearly not completely blocked the Fire Release earlier.
"Uncle Fugaku, I'm fine," Shisui replied, shaking his head. "Elder Shin doesn't look very good, though."
To end it in a single blow, Shisui had not held back at all. That punch carried everything he had.
Fugaku finally breathed out, then turned to check Shin.
Shin's condition was not fatal.
He was unconscious and had several broken bones.
In a way, unconsciousness was almost merciful. If he woke up immediately and saw so many eyes watching his defeat, his mood would be unbearable.
"Send Elder Shin to the hospital," Fugaku ordered.
Two Uchiha stepped forward and lifted Shin.
The referee stood frozen, unsure what to say.
Declaring Shisui the winner felt dangerous. He did not want to earn Shin's resentment.
In the end, the referee could only announce that the spar was over.
Shisui walked toward the crowd.
Every Uchiha stared at him with emotions tangled together: admiration, shock, confusion, envy.
At this moment, Shisui's image in their hearts rose beyond the label of genius.
"Even an elder lost to him," Yawei thought, feeling the weight in his chest lighten. "Then my loss doesn't feel so humiliating."
He had been depressed. He was a jonin, after all.
But seeing an elder lose made his mind find balance instantly.
If even an elder fell, then Yaowei's instant defeat was not because he was weak.
It was because Shisui was simply too strong.
Shin's collapse did not halt the tournament.
Another elder guided the second and third place participants in succession.
The fourth place guidance was delayed because Shin had been carried away.
…
Nara Shrine.
At eight in the evening, the Uchiha clan meeting began on time.
This time, just like before, Shisui brought Obito along.
The tournament had already made Shisui famous within the clan, but there was no reason not to borrow Obito's influence as well.
Shin also attended the meeting.
But Shisui could tell from his movements that he had not fully recovered. He was forcing himself to sit through the meeting with injuries.
"Demanding the right to take initiative in attacks holds tremendous meaning for the Police Force, and even for the entire Uchiha clan," Shin declared solemnly, seated beside Fugaku as before.
"If we succeed, we Uchiha will be able to…"
"Elder Shin," Shisui stood up at once and cut him off, "what if this proposal is doomed to fail?"
A large number of Uchiha turned to Shisui.
No one stopped him.
They simply waited, quiet, attentive.
Shisui had defeated Shin in front of everyone. He was also the super genius who became famous on the battlefield at eight years old.
He had earned the right to question Shin's proposal.
Shin looked at Shisui.
A faint ache flared in his abdomen.
His face darkened slightly.
"I said before that I cannot guarantee it will succeed," Shin replied after thinking for a moment. "Even reasonable demands may not be adopted. The final decision rests with the Hokage and Konoha's higher ups."
Then he added, voice gentle in a way that sounded like advice.
"Shisui, you are very strong, but you spend all your time training. You should learn more about other matters before you involve yourself."
Shisui smiled faintly.
He came prepared. Shin's little trap would not catch him.
"Elder Shin, being strong doesn't mean I haven't learned other things."
As he spoke, Shisui began distributing the materials he had prepared earlier to every Uchiha, including Shin.
The moment Shin saw what was written, his face turned grim.
His eyes flicked back and forth between Fugaku and the other elders, trying to figure out who had arranged all of this for Shisui.
He had reason to believe someone was building momentum for Shisui.
How else could an eight year old child prepare something like this?
The other Uchiha flipped through the pages, curious.
Most of it explained rights, the meaning of "initiative in attacks," what possessing such a right implied, how that power would be divided, and what kind of suspicion the Uchiha would face for proposing it.
It even included historical anecdotes that matched the topic.
To ensure no one was left confused, Shisui walked to the other side of Fugaku and began explaining aloud.
Because he wrote it himself, he did not need to glance at notes. His voice stayed steady, his expression calm.
He explained every point clearly, and he answered questions from other Uchiha as they came.
In the end, Shisui reached his conclusion.
"This proposal is unreasonable. It is not a right a clan should possess, and it directly impacts the Hokage's authority. The probability of it being approved is zero. A proposal like this will only make the higher ups fear the Uchiha even more."
Fugaku watched Shisui with open appreciation.
Fugaku understood the sensitivity of that right, but he could never have broken it down the way Shisui did, piece by piece, until every Uchiha understood.
Some people needed to have it chewed up and fed to them, otherwise they would never grasp it. They would only feel Shin's words sounded better.
"I didn't think enough this time," Shin said suddenly.
He stood and bowed deeply to everyone.
"I failed to notice how many points I overlooked. This was my mistake. I apologize. I'm sorry, everyone."
"Elder Shin, you were acting for the clan. You just missed some details."
"That's right. You don't need to apologize. We haven't even presented it yet. Thankfully Shisui reminded us."
Many Uchiha were moved by the elder's spontaneous apology and offered comfort at once.
"Regardless, it was my mistake," Shin said, straightening up. "I will reflect thoroughly."
He gave Shisui a deep look, then lowered his head and sat down.
Shisui watched, expression calm.
Shin's retreat to advance was well played.
But Shisui had achieved his objective too.
From this moment on, he had his own voice within the Uchiha.
At the same time, Mugetsu's panel finally received news of Shisui's life mission settlement.
