"Up," Maggie commanded, her voice cutting through the haze of Lyra's sleep. "Alpha Kade has new orders for you."
Lyra had heard Madam Maggie come in, but her limbs felt too heavy to move, and her eyelids refused to open. Her whole body felt soft and weak, as if she were sinking into water. She could still perceive the scent of the triplets on her, even in her dreams. The memories of their scent marking still clung to her mind; even though she had seen nothing, she had felt everything. Thinking about it now made her thighs clench together in an involuntary, humiliating response.
Maggie's rough hand shoved her shoulder, forcing her awake. "Welcome back to reality. Now stand up!" the older woman ordered, her voice sharp as ever.
Lyra jerked up too quickly, and the bell at her throat sang its humiliating note. Dawn had barely touched the narrow window of her chamber, but Maggie stood beside her bed, her face set in its usual stern lines.
