Chapter 1 - Dreams

"Where…. am I?"This question echoed through the dull air. Kyne woke in a cold sweat, hands pressed to the ground. Jolting from the ground, his back straightened and his legs bent into a sitting position. He stared at the sky. It was pitch black, almost looking like glass. His pupils looked down, reflecting a black, powder-like substance. He gently grabbed it, trying to make it not slip through his fingers.

"What is this?.. Is it ash?"His lips parted, but no sound followed.

The ash fell, and the sea around him seemed to morph into a red field of spider lilies stretching into the horizon. His body moved out of instinct. It jolted up to stand. His skin felt warm and light. He twisted his head up. He saw something new. In the pitch-black sky, there was a moon that was blood crimson.

Again, his lips curled like he was talking, yet still no noise. He tried to hold his throat, trying to fix his voice. Then a breeze rushed through. It was chilling and brushed through Kyne's skin. He started sweating as goosebumps crept up like someone was hiding behind him. He turned, his head snapping with his body. But he was too slow. A hand of a dark figure reached out. The hand got a hold of Kyne's neck. Gasping and trying to scream, yet no sound followed.

"Hello, Kyne."Those words slipped out of the dark figure. Kyne's eyes stopped scrambling, instead locking onto the figure's wry smile. It was bizarre. The figure's skin was pitch black with pure white eyes, smiling like a devil. The entity smiled with pleasure at the suffering of Kyne, who was unable to breathe. It tightened its grip on Kyne's neck. Soon, the struggling Kyne slowly stopped. His eyes became empty, with his neck turning purple.

It dropped Kyne onto the floor like dirt. Its smile never stopped. Kyne gasped, struggling to stay awake as air flooded his lungs. He looked up after his throat stopped closing. The entity was not there. He was confused at why and how the entity disappeared. Still having no voice, he turned around to see the crimson moon was gone, and the spider lilies were no longer red, instead a snow color.

Kyne's eyebrows shifted with curiosity. His hand trembled, yet still moved to the snow-colored spider lilies. His finger touched the spider lilies. It felt cold like snow, yet it felt warm like the sun. Kyne's eyes grew gentle after feeling the flower. His lips parted once again, but this time a voice came out.

"I didn't die."Kyne's voice returned. These words that meant everything slipped into the quiet, peaceful air.

A noise of breaking glass rang into the air. Kyne shifted his eyes, calm. His pupils reflected the glass-like sky. Getting up, his glare at the sky never froze, yet followed. A light started shining bright onto the field of spider lilies. Kyne felt the warm light; it wasn't like before. He turned, his head twisted to see a sunrise. It was beautiful.

His eyes glowed with hope and a sense of beauty. His frail body started moving on its own. It was instinct to move toward the blinding light. One word rang in his head—"Dreams."

As his leg moved and the light covered and blinded the horizon,

Eyes blinked from a dim light. A sigh of relief was thrown into the air.
