Chapter 43 - Lizard Doctor

After sending Leona back, Meng Ran and Gwen left.

Now that the Crocodile Gang was destroyed, all that was left was the final cleanup. And for the cleanup, of course, they had to find their dear Police Chief George.

Meng Ran and Gwen came to the vicinity of Gwen's home again, standing on a building not far away.

As usual, Meng Ran went to knock on the window and leave the file, while Gwen stood in place, watching Meng Ran interact with her father.

For some reason, Gwen always felt a strange sense of unease whenever she saw this scene.

After putting the file in place, Meng Ran retreated and rejoined Gwen.

Meng Ran watched George, who was familiar with retrieving the files, and said softly to Gwen, "After tonight, there won't be a Crocodile Gang anymore."

Gwen no longer paid attention to that strange feeling and nodded, "Yes, finally, this big tumor is removed."

George, who had finished reading the files in the room, put the flashlight back and quietly left. He got dressed and went to the garage to start his car.

With the roar of the engine, George drove towards the police station. Along the way, he made the familiar calls to find people. After several operations, they had become quite efficient.

Watching George leave, Meng Ran said softly to Gwen, "You go back to sleep first, you have class tomorrow. I'll take another look around and then go home."

Gwen also knew she didn't have the same energy as Meng Ran, so she nodded and replied, "Okay, you be careful too."

"See you tomorrow then~"

Hearing Gwen tell him to be careful, Meng Ran joked, "I'm a demon, it's the criminals who should be careful."

Gwen rolled her eyes at Meng Ran, then said goodbye and returned to her room.

Meng Ran also left, continuing to wander the city, maintaining the peace of the night.

The Osborn Group was deserted at night, save for the security personnel.

The research and development floor was dark and quiet at night, a stark contrast to the daytime hustle and bustle. The only light in the inky darkness came from a slightly ajar door.

A handsome, refined middle-aged man in a white lab coat sat at his desk. He held a pen in his left hand, scribbling on a piece of paper. His right sleeve was rolled up, revealing an empty space where his arm should have been.

Connors was agonizing over the experiment. He should have been elated, not troubled, because the project had achieved a breakthrough.

But time was of the essence. He couldn't afford to plod along with the experiments step by step. He needed to find a way to quickly validate and improve the results.

Connors tossed his pen down in frustration. He truly didn't know what to do. Remembering the words Neo had spoken to him during the day, Connors felt a wave of helplessness.

"Doctor, Norman Osborn can't wait any longer. He's running out of time. You must begin human trials as soon as possible."

"I'll go to the Veterans Hospital tomorrow. I imagine there will be plenty of people there missing limbs. Good luck to us both, Doctor."

Connors clenched his only fist, remembering those words. Then, with a complex expression, he released his fist and covered the empty sleeve where his right arm should have been with his left hand.

\n\nA moment later, Dr. Connors seemed to have made up his mind. He stood up, left his desk, and went to a machine. After entering a long string of complex passwords, he opened the locked door and took out a green reagent contained in a test tube-like container.

\n\nAfter taking out the reagent, Connors put it into a syringe. He held the syringe with one hand, preparing to inject it into where his right arm used to be.

\n\nThe syringe slowly approached his right arm, and Dr. Connors' expression gradually became complex and hesitant.

\n\nAfter a pause, Dr. Connors finally made up his mind and injected the syringe into his right arm. The green reagent quickly entered his body under the action of the syringe.

\n\nAt the moment the reagent entered Dr. Connors' body, a strange sensation came from all parts of his body. He staggered back to his desk and sat down in his chair.

\n\nA moment later, a sharp pain hit Dr. Connors again. After enduring for a minute, he was finally overcome by the excruciating pain and fell into a coma.

\n\nIn the morning, sunlight shone into Dr. Connors' office. The sliver of sunlight moved slowly with time, finally landing on his face.

Feeling the sunlight, Dr. Connors blinked and opened his eyes. Hearing the growing sounds of people outside, he knew it was morning.

He instinctively raised his right hand to shield himself from the sun, then sat up from the table, leaning against his stool.

"Right hand? How do I have a right hand?" Dr. Connors realized he had used his right hand to block the sunlight.

He quickly raised his right hand and examined it closely.

Dr. Connors saw a robust, white-as-jade arm growing from his right arm, with the fingers also enclosed within.

He poked the "arm" with his left hand. The jade-like white arm was actually wrapped in a thick "protective membrane."

Dr. Connors quickly unwrapped the covering on his right hand, and after a moment, a slightly thicker arm appeared before him.

He looked at his arm excitedly, finding it hard to believe; it was a scene he had only ever seen in his dreams.

Connors quickly picked up the phone on the table, intending to call Neo.

The call connected, but Neo's secretary answered. She informed Connors that Neo was on his way to the Veterans Hospital and should be on the Brooklyn Bridge by now.

Dr. Connors immediately hung up the phone, grabbed his coat, and headed out. He needed to find Neo quickly and tell him about the breakthrough, so he wouldn't have to go to the Veterans Hospital.

Dr. Connors went downstairs, hailed a taxi, and got in. He anxiously said, "Hurry, hurry to the Brooklyn Bridge."

The driver ignored Dr. Connors' anxiety and instead said slowly, "You have to tell me where you want to go, sir. The Brooklyn Bridge? How am I supposed to park there?"

Hearing the driver's slow response, Dr. Connors couldn't help but feel his anger surge. He suddenly let out an abnormal roar, then shouted, "I said! The Brooklyn Bridge!"

The driver was startled by Dr. Connors' roar and immediately stepped on the accelerator, heading towards the Brooklyn Bridge. He just wanted to get rid of this madman as quickly as possible.

The driver kept speeding along the way, cursing inwardly, "I'm really unlucky today. I ran into this thing first thing in the morning. If he's sick, why isn't he going to the hospital and instead going to the bridge? What's wrong with him, does he want to kill himself?"

Finally on the bridge, the traffic was completely jammed. The driver helplessly shook his head, looking in the rearview mirror at Dr. Connors behind him and said, "Hey! We're at the bridge. Where exactly are you getting off?"

Seeing that no one responded, the driver turned and called out a few more times.

He saw a figure lying sideways in the back seat, his coat covering his upper body, even his head.

The driver, unable to rouse him, reached out to pull on Dr. Connors' clothes.

As a result, the clothes came off, revealing not the handsome middle-aged man from before, but a green-skinned monster with a tail.

The driver, upon seeing this, immediately couldn't help but scream, then quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the car door, running out.

Connors in the back seat was now the Lizard Doctor, startled awake by the driver's scream.

The Lizard Doctor's mind was in a whirl after waking up. He didn't know where he was or what he should do, only vaguely remembering that he needed to find Neo.

Lizard Doctor rose from the back seat, his claws tearing through the roof of the taxi. He then climbed out.

His eyes were devoid of reason now, filled only with a wild, instinctive desire to destroy.

He had to find that man, Neo, and tear him to shreds.
