Chapter 64 - Mark I and Escape

Thanks to Tony's hard work yesterday, they had assembled the slightly crude Mark I armor first thing this morning.

Ethan was helping Tony put on the last pieces of the armor. Then, he turned on the computer, configuring the final step. The progress bar was steadily increasing.

The terrorists outside, having not seen Tony and Ethan on the monitors for several minutes, felt a sense of unease.

A man who appeared to be a small leader quickly shouted something, then led a group of people towards Tony and Ethan's cave.

Tony was trapped inside the Mark I, unable to move. Ethan watched the progress bar on the computer, listening to the approaching footsteps. He couldn't help but feel nervous.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of these people." A large hand landed on Ethan's shoulder.

Ethan looked up and saw a dark, ghostly figure standing beside him.

Meng Ran's eyes, hidden under the hood, emitted a cold light. The large mouth below his eyes was filled with dense, terrifying teeth. A scarlet tongue, like a flexible little snake, extended from his mouth, covered in thick saliva.

Ethan's heart skipped a beat. It was the first time he'd seen an Evil Ghost, and its terrifying appearance truly lived up to the name. Swallowing hard, he said nervously, "Almost done... about a minute more, I think."

Meng Ran patted Ethan on the shoulder and then stretched out his hands towards the doorway. Little White had already disabled the surveillance in the area.

Ethan felt goosebumps erupt on his neck after being patted by Meng Ran.

Tony, lying in his armor, had seen pictures of the Evil Ghost, but they weren't very clear. Seeing it up close for the first time was eye-opening, and he got goosebumps too. He finally understood how the criminals felt when facing the Evil Ghost.

The iron gate, which had been holding everyone out, finally couldn't withstand the repeated impacts and crashed to the ground with a loud boom. The terrorists outside immediately charged in, guns raised.

As they poured through the doorway, Meng Ran's outstretched hands suddenly transformed into countless sharp, flexible Tentacles, impaling the incoming terrorists like skewers.

Blood splattered everywhere, and screams of agony filled the air. The terrorists behind them, who hadn't even entered the door, were also pierced before they could react.

A few of the terrorists at the back were lucky enough to avoid being skewered by Meng Ran, as they were a bit further away from the front.

Watching their companions get impaled by several strange, black Tentacles, they immediately widened their eyes and screamed as they ran out of the cave.

"Monster!" The shouts outside gradually faded away.

Meng Ran retracted his Tentacles. The entrance was already littered with corpses.

Tony and Ethan watched Meng Ran kill these people without any effort, and they nervously swallowed.

"Is this the Evil Ghost?" Tony thought to himself, secretly shocked.

He had investigated the Evil Ghost before, but he could only find out that the Evil Ghost fought crime, showing no mercy to criminals, and using brutal methods.

He had no information on other details and deeper information. The former was because those criminals were ordinary to Meng Ran, and there weren't any more details to dig up.

The latter was because the Evil Ghost and his team had a very professional information confidentiality and defense system, which even Jarvis couldn't penetrate to obtain any information.

Tony and Ethan were stunned; it was the first time they'd seen Meng Ran kill someone.

Just then, the progress bar on the computer finally reached the end.

Meng Ran smiled at Tony, "Now it's your time to shine. Use those guys outside to practice, and I'll handle anything you can't."

Tony nodded, also excited. After all, a mech was the ultimate fantasy for a man.

"Click." The faceplate on Tony's helmet closed, and Mark I was ready to attack!

Outside the dark cave entrance, the remaining criminals were staring intently at the opening, ready to fight. They had set up machine guns and prepared plenty of firepower, waiting to give the monster inside a warm welcome.

"Bang... bang... bang..." Heavy footsteps came from the cave entrance. The people outside couldn't help but grip their guns tighter. The heavy footsteps pounded their hearts like a hammer, making them increasingly nervous.

Finally, a giant figure emerged from the cave entrance.

With a command, countless bullets poured toward the opening.

The sounds of gunfire and bullets hitting steel mixed together in a cacophony.

Tony, inside Mark I, listened to the clanging of bullets and felt the immense force transmitted through the armor. Thankfully, this armor was heavy and thick, or the sheer power of the impacts would have sent him stumbling backward.

Tony controlled the armor, raising its arms. "Whoosh!" Two rockets shot out from the cannons on the armor's arms, landing in the two machine gun bunkers opposite him, obliterating them.

After firing the rockets, Tony extended the cannons on his arms, then activated the Flamethrower, spraying it at the surrounding enemies.

The flames incinerated the terrorists nearby, and also ignited several nearby ammunition dumps, killing a large number of terrorists in the blasts.

"Hahahaha!" Tony cackled maniacally as he controlled the mech. These damn terrorists had caused him so much suffering recently, and the initial feeling of disgust was fading.

However, the good times didn't last long. After a while, Mark I's Flamethrower ran out of fuel, and the armor was now only capable of flight.

Tony controlled the weaponless Mark I, leaving him vulnerable to attack.

Just then, several rockets suddenly flew towards Tony from a distance. Tony immediately pulled a lever beside him, and the entire Mark I suddenly split open from the back, "spitting" Tony back into the cave.

The subsequent rockets then blasted the Mark I, which was still in pieces, into smithereens.

Tony, having flown back into the cave, patted the dust off his body and stood up, somewhat disheveled, but his face was filled with unconcealed joy.

"Woohoo~! I'm a genius! Ethan, you saw that, right? Mark I is amazing!"

"It's just that the conditions here are a bit crude, otherwise I could have designed it even more perfectly."

Tony said excitedly to Ethan, who nodded with a smile. He had also seen the performance of Mark I.

A pile of scrap metal could be assembled like this; Ethan couldn't help but admire that Tony was indeed a genius.

Meng Ran looked at the remaining enemies outside and turned to Tony and Ethan, saying, "You two stay here and don't move. I'll go buy...呸呸呸, I'll go take care of the remaining enemies outside."

After speaking, Meng Ran vanished, slipping out of the cave entrance.

Tony and Ethan raised the steel plates they'd found, holding them in front of them as they cautiously moved towards the opening. They peered through the gap, watching Meng Ran's battle.

They saw enemies falling one after another. All they could see was the Evil Ghost's fleeting black figure, followed by the enemies' screams as they fell.

Amidst the rising and falling cries, Meng Ran swiftly harvested the remaining terrorists' lives with his dagger.

Less than a minute, forty seconds later, Meng Ran's figure suddenly reappeared beside Tony and Ethan.

Meng Ran's sudden appearance startled the two men, and they dropped the steel plates they were holding.

"Alright, the enemies are all dealt with. You won't need the steel plates anymore," Meng Ran said to them.

After speaking, Meng Ran tossed Tony a satellite phone and then quickly moved them both away, grabbing their shoulders.

In a short while, they arrived in a desert some distance from the cave.

\n\n

Meng Ran released their shoulders.

\n\n

Tony and Ethan felt a moment of dizziness. The sand and wind on the road had gotten in their eyes. Now, both of them plopped down on the ground, blinking hard.

\n\n

Meng Ran said calmly, "You're safe now. Use the satellite phone to call for help. The military will be here to pick you up in a few minutes."

\n\n

Tony finally cleared his eyes. With teary eyes, he looked at Meng Ran and asked, "What about you? Aren't you coming with us?"

\n\n

Meng Ran looked at the "tearful" Tony and suppressed the strange feeling in his heart. He said to Tony, "Don't worry about me. I have my own way of leaving. We'll meet again if fate allows."

\n\n

Tony blinked, tears still flowing, and was about to say something else. But then, he looked closely and found that Meng Ran had already disappeared, leaving only him and Ethan sitting on the ground, staring at each other.

Meng Ran's figure suddenly appeared near the cave. He leaped into the air, spun his body, and hurled countless High Explosive Bombs towards the camp.

After throwing the bombs, Meng Ran vanished from the air, moving himself to a safe location.

Three seconds after Meng Ran disappeared, the numerous bombs in the camp detonated instantly, turning the area into a sea of fire.
