Night had fallen, and New York was exceptionally bright tonight.
On the rooftop of a building, a black-clad man in a long, black trench coat, with an eyepatch over one eye, stood at the edge, gazing at the brightly lit streets below.
A long time had passed since the Battle of New York. The new year was fast approaching, and it was currently winter.
But regardless of the season, the black trench coat on Nick Fury seemed to be permanently attached, never to be changed.
He had received the message Meng Ran had sent through Little White and had arrived at the agreed-upon location.
"Are you certain that the news of your whereabouts hasn't been leaked?"
As he was looking into the distance, a raspy voice came from behind him.
Hearing the voice, Nick Fury wasn't surprised at all; he was used to the Evil Ghost's ability to appear and disappear at will.
He kept his gaze forward and said softly, "Don't worry, no one knows I'm here right now."
Hearing Nick Fury's response, Meng Ran happened to walk up beside him from behind.
Meng Ran could completely sense whether there were any people nearby. He was worried about whether Nick Fury's whereabouts had been leaked when he set out.
Under the cover of night, the two of them quietly watched the distant scenery and then began a secret conversation.
Meng Ran said in a low voice to Nick Fury, "Before the Battle of New York, I told you about some information regarding Hydra. It's been quite a while now; Christmas is almost here. Have you found anything?"
Hearing Meng Ran's question, Nick Fury gathered his thoughts before answering, "I've been investigating since I learned that information."
Saying this, he took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "The situation is indeed shocking. According to my current investigation, quite a few Hydra agents have infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D."
"Besides the fact that many senior agents are also spies, I've even found indications that someone with even greater influence is a spy, but I can't confirm their identity yet."
"I don't even know who to trust anymore."
After hearing Nick Fury's account, Meng Ran pondered for a moment before saying, "Be prepared, what you find out in the future may exceed your expectations. That's all I can say."
Meng Ran actually wanted to tell him directly that the biggest Hydra spy was his long-trusted former director, Alexander Pierce.
But he knew that, given Nick Fury's suspicious and cautious nature, directly stating it would be counterproductive.
Compared to himself, Nick Fury certainly trusted Alexander Pierce more.
After all, they had a deep relationship, both in the past and the present. Pierce had also been working with Nick Fury, carefully managing the current S.H.I.E.L.D.
All Meng Ran could do was make his words as clear as possible, and then let Nick Fury find the answer himself.
For someone like Nick Fury, the truth could only be fully believed if he uncovered it himself.
Hearing the Evil Ghost's words, Nick Fury couldn't help but feel his heart sink. Although he hadn't interacted with the Evil Ghost much, everything the Evil Ghost had said up to this point had been based on something.
Although Nick Fury also wanted to ask the Evil Ghost for clarification, his cautious and suspicious nature ultimately prevented him from speaking.
After a moment of silence, Meng Ran didn't forget the purpose of his visit. He spoke to Nick Fury, "You can continue to investigate the Hydra spies, even intensify the efforts."
"But my main purpose for coming to see you today is to get all the data you have on Hydra."
"All the Hydra data? Why do you suddenly need this?" Nick Fury asked, looking at Meng Ran with some confusion.
Meng Ran didn't answer Nick Fury's question. Instead, he chuckled a few times and said, "Heh, how did you forget the habits of an agent at this moment, suddenly having so many questions?"
"This information isn't enough for me to explain for half a day here, Agent. Don't forget that I helped you find Tony Stark before."
Nick Fury shrugged after hearing Meng Ran's words, then said softly, "No need to be so intense, Mr. Evil Ghost. I just want to know if there's anything I can help with."
"After all, we've cooperated several times and built a good relationship. We have a good foundation for cooperation, don't we?"
Hearing Nick Fury's words, Meng Ran grinned, but his grin was a little terrifying.
He knew what kind of person Nick Fury was. Although he spoke eloquently and with full sincerity, in reality, he was just curious about what the Evil Ghost wanted to do.
His strong curiosity and desire for control made him want to grasp all this information in his own hands.
"Put away that set of lines. How could I not know what you're thinking?"
"But you're right, there are some things you can indeed help with."
Hearing Nick Fury's words, Meng Ran pondered for a moment and decided to inform him about the Monster's information and the connection between the Monster and Hydra.
After all, he was an old agent; perhaps he could investigate some interesting things. However, he still needed to caution him to be careful and not alert the enemy.
Meng Ran looked at Nick Fury's single eye and said in a low voice, "I need information on Hydra, mainly for a mercenary organization called Monster."
"I believe you should have some understanding of them, but what you know might only be superficial."
Nick Fury was also interested when the Evil Ghost mentioned the Monster.
Indeed, as the Evil Ghost said, their understanding of the Monster was limited to it being a mercenary organization.
Because they had no dealings with the Monster, and the Monster's information defense system was very strong, it was normal for them not to understand the Monster.
Meng Ran continued to introduce to Nick Fury, "The Monster mercenary group is not as simple as you imagine. The people under them are very powerful."
"They also have a method that can grant normal people various Mutants abilities. Those who undergo this transformation are called Mutants by them."
"Although you don't know this information, you must have discovered the clues they've left behind, such as some unsolved mysteries and cases."
Next, Meng Ran gave Nick Fury a detailed introduction to the distinctions between the Monster organization's Mutants, and just how powerful they were.
After introducing these basic facts, the next thing Meng Ran wanted to talk about were the most important points, which were the relationship between Hydra and the Monsters.
