The spider opened its ferocious jaws wide, its gleaming fangs locking tightly onto Towen.
Its horrifying mandibles snapped open and shut, eager to sink into his flesh.
It wanted to tear this human apart—turn him into nothing but a corpse.
After being imprisoned for so many days, it was starving to the point its belly clung to its back. It was ready for a proper feast.
The human before it had to die!
"Playtime's over."
Towen's gaze was calm and indifferent. The moment the spider lunged, his right hand flicked out, a single finger snapping forward.
Before the spider could even strike, it was sent flying—smashing right into Parker's neck.
Out of reflex, it bit down, leaving only a shallow mark before going completely limp, unconscious, and falling.
Towen reacted instantly, catching the spider and sealing it back into the container.
"Ah!"
Even though Parker had mentally prepared himself, a sharp pain still coursed through him, making him cry out. Yet the pain vanished almost as quickly as it came, replaced by a strange, overwhelming sensation that swept through his entire body.
It felt as though every channel in his body had been opened—energy flowing freely, nerves sharpened to an extreme. The world around him shifted. Every gust of wind, every subtle sound of rustling grass came into perfect focus.
Even the tiny fly outside the car window was crystal clear.
His hearing sharpened as well—almost like some mythical "Thousand-Mile Ear." It was too powerful!
"This is… unbelievable!"
Parker shouted, stunned and exhilarated.
Towen's brows lifted slightly. He hadn't expected Parker's transformation to occur so quickly. By his calculations, Parker should've needed at least half a day to stabilize before the change fully took hold. But the kid had completed his metamorphosis almost instantly.
Still, that was very good news.
"Parker."
"Yes, sir! Thank you so much!" Parker burst out, his excitement overflowing. "I feel incredible—better than ever! It's like I've become a superhero… no, a superhuman! I've never felt anything like this before—it's amazing! I promise, I'll be the best intern ever, the hardest-working employee in the company!"
Towen smiled softly. "You will."
But deep down, he sighed. He hadn't expected that, along with the powers of Spider-Man, Parker would also awaken another unfortunate trait: talkativeness.
In the Marvel Universe, the only one who could compete with Peter Parker in that department was Deadpool.
It all came so suddenly.
"Parker, you'll need time to adjust to your new abilities," Towen said. "You've gained the spider's senses—and also some of its traits. You can spin webs, and weave them."
He handed Parker a book he had prepared in advance.
"Thank you, sir! I'll study it thoroughly! But actually, you know, even though spiders scare me, I've always been fascinated by them. I've done my research—they're fast, they produce tons of silk, their webs are incredibly strong—oh my God!"
His rapid-fire chatter stopped abruptly. He stared at his right hand in shock—the book was glued firmly to his palm.
Pure astonishment filled his face… followed quickly by delight. He really had spider powers!
Looking down, he noticed the fine barbs now visible on his palms—tiny hooks that allowed him to cling to any surface.
"That's one of your abilities," Towen explained. "It lets you climb buildings easily and move faster than normal. But your most notable powers are your webbing and spider silk. With them, you can swing through the city, glide across rooftops, and restrain your enemies."
"Really? How do I do that, sir?" Parker asked eagerly, eyes wide. "Do I shout 'Web!' really loud? Or pose like Ultraman? Or is it just—think, and it happens?"
Towen chuckled. "None of those. Just like this."
He took out a large web-net he'd prepared in advance and demonstrated the hand gesture.
"Got it!"
Parker thrust his right hand forward, copying Towen's movement.
Swish!
A strand of web shot out from his wrist—but drooped halfway through and splatted on the ground, sticky and gooey like a half-chewed bubblegum strand.
"Oh my God, it actually worked! I can really shoot webs! That means—I'll be a spider-type superhero! This is unbelievable! Thank you, sir! I swear, I'll be the company's brightest star—the number one hero—the pride of New York!"
Overjoyed, Parker kept flicking his wrist, trying again and again.
But the results were still weak—short, sluggish threads of silk that barely reached a few meters.
Towen knew it would take time. The boy still needed practice.
"Fire!"
"Behold, my mighty webs!"
"Take that, villain!"
"Watch out for Spider-Power!"
Luckily, Parker's enthusiasm didn't wane. On the contrary, he grew even more animated—swinging his arm, shouting attack names, pretending to fight invisible enemies as webs splattered in every direction.
And in his mind, those fragile strands were already unbreakable.
"Parker," Towen finally said with a laugh, "I think you might be hungry. Let's get lunch—you'll need your strength."
He signaled the driver to head to New York's finest Michelin-starred restaurant.
Parker's eyes went wide with joy.
He had only heard of such places before, never dreamed of eating there. The driver, Harlen, looked equally thrilled. For once, he truly loved his job.
After enjoying a meal so delicious it nearly made them bite their tongues, Towen and Parker stepped out of the restaurant. When they passed through a nearby park, Parker couldn't resist trying again.
This time, when he fired a web, it shot more than ten meters—latching onto a large rock and yanking him forward.
His excitement burst forth like fireworks.
"Sir! I did it! I really did it! This feels amazing! If I can control it just right, I can fly between skyscrapers—take down bad guys—keep New York safe—and lighten your burdens!"
Towen smiled. "Welcome, Spider-Man."
"That's my name? Spider-Man? It's perfect! From now on, I'll fight for the safety of humanity and take down every villain who threatens peace!"
BOOM!
Just as he finished speaking, a thunderous explosion erupted in the distance.
Car alarms wailed through the city, echoing across the streets. A massive boulder hurtled through the air—straight toward Parker.
The whistling rock tore through the air like a cannonball. If it hit, the result would be catastrophic.
