"Not good!"
Everything happened too suddenly. Tao Wen didn't even have time to react before an immensely powerful object slammed onto his body, sending him flying along with it.
The sudden loss of balance made him instinctively frown.
Wooo—wooo—wooo—
Outside, the winds howled wildly. Police cars filled the streets, and in the sky above, multiple armed helicopters circled. Machine guns roared as bullets rained down, landing dangerously close.
People screamed and fled in panic.
As Tao Wen quickly looked around, he realized the thing grabbing him was a massive mechanical arm. Attached to the arm was a burly man—and beside his body were several other mechanical tentacles.
At first glance, he looked like an octopus. Under the barrage of bullets, the mechanical arms lashed and danced, shielding him from the attacks.
Boom!
One of the arms grabbed a heavy piece of furniture and hurled it violently at a helicopter. The aircraft spiraled downward, forced into an emergency crash landing.
"Well damn, talk about luck… I actually ran into Doctor Octopus!"
Tao Wen stared at the monster before him in astonishment, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
Doctor Octopus was a major supervillain in the Spider-Man series—and a brilliant scientist. He was exactly the sort of villain Tao Wen wanted for the Profound Palace.
If he joined, the Profound Palace would gain wings like a tiger.
And Tao Wen could farm a massive amount of fragments from him. Once he gathered enough, he could obtain a modified version of the Tri-Force Scroll.
"Hey, Otto!"
Tao Wen shouted loudly at Doctor Octopus.
Doctor Octopus's real name was Otto Gunther Octavius—a distinguished physicist.
"What?!"
Doc Ock had originally been heading toward the bank to steal money to continue funding his scientific research. His mind was full of invention and theory, leaving no room to consider anything else. Hearing someone call his name suddenly stunned him. How could anyone here know who he was?
"Who are you?"
Doctor Octopus demanded.
"The one who's here to capture you."
Tao Wen grinned.
Fragment +1
The moment they spoke, a shard flashed before Tao Wen's eyes and merged into his progress bar: 1/10.
"Good. This one is definitely for the Tri-Force Scroll!"
Seeing the update, Tao Wen's eyes sparkled. He had been waiting a long time for the modified Tri-Force, and now he could farm an unlimited number of fragments from Doctor Octopus.
"Die!"
Rage flashed in Doctor Octopus's eyes. One of the mechanical arms lifted Tao Wen high into the air—then hurled him toward the ground with the intent to smash him into mush.
"Heh."
The instant he was thrown, Tao Wen's right hand shot out and struck the wall. With his strength, his fingers embedded into the surface like a shovel.
Bang, bang, bang—
Using the wall as support, he climbed rapidly, darting upward toward Doc Ock like a phantom.
"What?!"
Doc Ock never imagined Tao Wen could return so quickly. He was certain the man was already dead. This completely exceeded his expectations.
He became wary. Tao Wen was clearly no ordinary person.
"Go to hell!"
He wildly manipulated his mechanical arms, grabbing every piece of furniture in the room and hurling them at Tao Wen.
Heavy items flew like a storm of iron, forcing Tao Wen to dodge. Hanging on the wall left him vulnerable—one wrong hit, and he would fall. That wasn't the problem; if he fell, Doc Ock might escape his sight.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
When Doc Ock realized the furniture couldn't stop Tao Wen, he abandoned the tactic and used his arms to climb upward at high speed.
Within a minute, he reached the rooftop.
Tao Wen followed closely, leaping after him.
Boom!
The moment Tao Wen landed, a blurred shadow shot toward him.
A mechanical arm swung a sharp blade down at his body.
"Good timing!"
Facing the attack, Tao Wen's eyes brightened. His right hand stretched out and grabbed the blade.
Crack.
With sheer strength, Tao Wen snapped the blade clean in half. Then he grabbed at the mechanical arm, attempting to seize control of it.
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da!
Just as he was about to succeed, the helicopter reappeared and unleashed a barrage of bullets at both Tao Wen and Doctor Octopus.
Tao Wen was forced to retreat, losing his chance to grab Doc Ock.
Seeing Tao Wen crush a blade with his bare hand filled Doctor Octopus with fear. He fled in another direction, desperate to escape the danger.
Bang!
Tao Wen kept up the chase. The helicopter clearly targeted only Doctor Octopus—it had no intention of attacking him.
Doc Ock jumped off the rooftop. As he crashed downward, a floor-to-ceiling window shattered beneath him. Amid the explosion of glass, he dove inside.
"Ahhh!"
The resident inside was a gorgeous woman with an eighty-five-point figure. She had just finished showering and was about to watch TV when she witnessed the terrifying scene. She screamed in panic.
"Don't come closer! If you do, I'll kill her!"
Doctor Octopus grabbed the woman and shouted threateningly.
Tears filled her eyes as she looked toward Tao Wen, silently begging him to save her. She was willing to do anything.
The helicopters hovered outside, not daring to act with a hostage in play. They had to prioritize rescue.
"I have to say something."
Tao Wen stared speechlessly at Doctor Octopus.
"Hm?"
Both Doc Ock and the woman looked at Tao Wen in confusion.
"There's one thing you seem to have mistaken. I'm not some superhero who saves people. Her life has nothing to do with me."
Tao Wen spoke calmly. His voice wasn't loud, but it echoed clearly in the room as he stepped forward.
He placed his hand directly on one of the mechanical arms.
"Pretty sturdy…"
He squeezed. Even with his strength, he couldn't crush the arm—there wasn't even a dent. That surprised him. This metal might be something special.
"What?!"
Doc Ock was dumbfounded. At the same time, he felt an immense force pulling on his mechanical arm, causing him sharp pain. Fury erupted within him.
"You liar! Don't try to trick me!"
He swung the woman outward, hurling her through the shattered window. He refused to believe Tao Wen didn't care.
"Ahhh—!"
The woman screamed as she plummeted.
The helicopter surged forward, beginning the rescue.
Tao Wen remained where he was, unmoving, his eyes filled with playful amusement.
"Well, now that it's quiet, we can get to the real matter. You have two choices: submit to me, or die."
Tao Wen said with a warm, gentle smile—like a friendly boy-next-door.
