Chapter 98 - Conception — The War Fortress and the Mind Transmission Device

To get to the bottom of things, Anton summoned the head of the publicity department.

After hearing the explanation, he finally understood.

Green Arrow's setting was quite similar to Batman's — their backgrounds and personalities overlapped considerably. In essence, Green Arrow was riding on Batman's popularity.

And that was no small thing — at present, the superhero with the highest fan value was Batman!

With DC's full-scale marketing of the Batman IP — novels, comics, games, merchandise — his influence far exceeded imagination.

DC's profits were, of course, tremendous.

Green Arrow happened to capture Batman's residual market. Thanks to the overlapping character setup and story themes, he drew the attention of many Batman fans.

And since they were both DC characters, fans often extended their affection from one to the other.

That's why, even though Green Arrow was popular only through novels and comics, he could still accumulate such a massive fan base.

"So that means… soon I'll have two alter egos?"

Anton felt a rare thrill of excitement.

He hadn't forgotten that unlocking Green Arrow only required ten million fan points — a small price for another superhero identity.

Although he'd chosen Cyborg over Green Arrow because of the overlap with Batman, the latter's overall cost-performance ratio wasn't bad at all.

"In the next two weeks, ramp up Green Arrow's promotion. I want results quickly," Anton instructed the company executive.

"Understood," the man nodded.

Then Anton rose and left the office, heading upstairs to the Daily Bugle.

As always, his personal assistant Natasha followed closely behind.

The two entered Eddie's office.

"Anton, who's this new beauty you've brought along?" Eddie asked, his eyes lighting up at the sight of Natasha.

"She's my new assistant," Anton replied casually. "You know Betty's been busy since Cyborg premiered — more work, more chaos. Anyway, this is Natasha."

"Nice to meet you."

Natasha extended a hand politely.

They shook hands.

"Step outside for a bit," Anton told her. "I've got something to discuss with Eddie."

When Natasha left, Anton turned to Eddie. "I need you to investigate someone for me."

"Who?" Eddie asked curiously.

Whenever Anton said that, it usually meant something big was coming.

"Dr. Stockman," Anton replied. "He's been researching mind transmission technology — and has proposed quite a few advanced theories. I want everything you can find on him."

"Mind transmission?" Eddie's eyebrows shot up. It wasn't the first time he'd heard the term, but it sounded like technology that was still decades away from realization.

"He's got access to something… unusual," Anton said meaningfully. "Something not of this world — kind of like the symbiote inside you."

Eddie froze. "Wait, are you saying that technology actually exists?"

"It does," Anton nodded. "But it's alien in origin. And such technology shouldn't be in Stockman's hands. Besides…" His lips curved into a grin. "I have another idea."

"Alien, huh? Like Darkseid in your Cyborg movie?" Eddie asked, suddenly recalling the film he'd just watched with April the night before.

Anton nodded. "Exactly. The Justice League needs a proper base. If we could obtain the mind transmission device, it would be a huge advantage."

He paused, eyes glinting.

Ever since meeting the Ninja Turtles, he'd been mulling over an idea.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows, the alien villain Krang used mind transmission technology to drag a massive war fortress — a gigantic spherical structure — from the depths of outer space down to Earth.

That "War Fortress" would make the perfect headquarters for the Justice League.

If paired with the mind transmission system…

Every member of the League could instantly teleport to the base whenever a crisis erupted — ready to respond in seconds.

That kind of alien black technology was something Anton had to control himself.

Of course, unlike the movie where Krang was easily defeated, this was the real world — and Anton had no intention of underestimating such a dangerous extraterrestrial.

Krang was a notorious intergalactic criminal, after all.

Anton planned carefully: once he unlocked Cyborg, he would gather the current Justice League members, find an isolated area, and use the mind transmission system to lure Krang to Earth. After defeating him, they would seize his life's work — the colossal War Fortress.

With Cyborg's genius-level mind and alien-interface systems, controlling such technology wouldn't be difficult.

"In fact," Anton continued, "the mind transmission device is composed of three components. Only when the three are combined is it complete. One piece is with Dr. Stockman, another is stored in the New York Museum — Eddie, find a way to get that one."

"And the last piece?" Eddie asked.

"In the Amazon rainforest of Brazil," Anton replied, shrugging with a wry smile. "Yeah… that's going to be a huge job."

"You really think we can find it?"

"The key is getting Stockman's cooperation," Anton said with a knowing grin.

"By the way, Phil's been testing his new gear lately, hasn't he?" Anton added. "Have him pose as a villain and approach Stockman — it'll be his first mission. If he pulls it off, the Justice League won't have any reason to turn him down."

"Clever!" Eddie chuckled.

If Anton's plan worked and the teleportation device was assembled, Phil would become one of the founding heroes of the Justice League.

They exchanged a knowing glance — perfectly content to dump the troublesome task onto Phil.

"Alright then," Anton said, standing up. "Keep me updated."

He left the office.

Outside, Natasha straightened her posture, her curves accentuated — drawing the awestruck gazes of nearly every Daily Bugle employee.

They could only swallow hard and sigh. Their boss Anton truly lived up to his reputation as Tony Stark's old friend — always surrounded by stunning women.

The door to the editor-in-chief's office creaked open.

"Let's go."

Anton gestured, and the two returned downstairs to DC's offices.

When the workday ended, Anton was about to leave when — whether by accident or design — he bumped into Natasha.

"Miss Romanoff," he said with a smile, "care to join me for a drink?"

"Of course," she replied with a sultry smile.
