Anton quickly moved away and reached an empty rooftop.
A Green Arrow clone arrived.
An arrow shot into the edge of the rooftop, hoisting him up.
Soon, the two met.
Under the moonlight, Anton looked at the man in green armor, holding a bow. Despite minor superficial injuries from a fight with Hawkeye, the man's expression remained calm. Anton couldn't help but be impressed.
This was another version of himself.
However, the Green Arrow clone's appearance differed from Anton's. Though he possessed Anton's memories, his body was that of Oliver Queen.
Immediately after, the Green Arrow nodded at Anton and vanished into thin air.
The once well-lit rooftop was left with only Anton.
"Quite convenient!"
Anton muttered to himself, then vanished, heading home to sleep.
After finishing his discussion with Batman, Coulson instructed Black Widow and Hawkeye to continue operations in New York. He then boarded S.H.I.E.L.D.'s dedicated aircraft to return to headquarters as quickly as possible to meet Director Nick Fury.
It was already late at night.
Nick Fury hadn't gone home; after receiving Coulson's message, he waited at headquarters.
They avoided using communication devices because the matter was serious. Only a face-to-face meeting could avoid mistakes.
"Coulson."
In the director's office, Black Egg (Nick Fury) looked at his capable subordinate with a sense of foreboding.
Coulson had significant autonomy in field operations. Unless it was something major, he could make decisions on his own.
That Coulson rushed back to headquarters at this hour and avoided communication suggested it wasn't a small matter.
Nick asked, "What's so urgent that you came back at this hour? Is it about Batman?"
"Yes, but not just Batman."
Coulson's expression was grave as he said, "I've talked to Batman. Inviting him to join the team is almost impossible because he has already formed his own superhero team."
Before Black Egg could react, Coulson continued:
"That's not the main point. More importantly, according to Batman, there's a mole within S.H.I.E.L.D.! The purpose of Batman forming a superhero team is the same as yours: to guard against extraterrestrial threats! He knows the alien invasion that happened over a decade ago in detail… and it seems the intelligence came from S.H.I.E.L.D."
Nick Fury immediately understood why Coulson had rushed back.
His expression remained neutral, but deep inside, he was shocked.
If there really was a mole in S.H.I.E.L.D., this person must be one of the few insiders. Whoever it was, it would be a disaster for the organization.
"What else did he say?"
Black Egg calmed down and looked at Coulson.
"Nothing else."
Coulson shook his head. "He seems very wary and doesn't want to get involved."
"Then perhaps his reluctance to associate with S.H.I.E.L.D. is related to this mole…"
Nick pondered, accepting the validity of Coulson's judgment. Batman's knowledge of the 1990s alien events was credible. He would not blindly doubt his own agent.
Regardless, he would raise vigilance and conduct a covert test.
"Also, regarding the assessment of Batman, I believe it needs reconsideration."
Coulson finished one matter and then handed a file to Nick Fury.
"This is the information I reorganized about Batman during my trip back."
Nick opened the file and scanned it.
"Justice League…"
"Is that the name of the superhero team he wants to form?"
He muttered to himself, increasingly serious as he read on.
"Spider-Man, Venom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Daredevil… these are all members of the Justice League?"
Suddenly, his expression stiffened in astonishment.
Black Egg noticed the most critical information in Coulson's reorganized intelligence.
Green Arrow!DC Comics!
"You mean the virtual characters from DC Comics might actually appear in front of us?"
Nick's expression turned strange; he hadn't expected Coulson to reach this conclusion.
"Green Arrow is already a fact. Hawkeye can attest to that," Coulson said. "Moreover, Batman was originally a fictional character created by Anton Jameson, but ultimately became real. To my knowledge, all rights to Batman now belong to DC Comics, so Batman is a DC property."
He paused, then continued: "Currently, Anton's movie 'Cyborg' is showing in theaters. It's hard to say if we might actually encounter a living, real Cyborg next."
"Besides Batman, Green Arrow, and Cyborg, DC has introduced several virtual characters, including Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Superman… You don't really think all of them will appear in the Justice League, do you?" Nick asked.
"I can't answer that, sir," Coulson said. "But given the situation, it cannot be ruled out."
"Alright."
Nick nodded in acknowledgment. He trusted Coulson's judgment and valued his opinion.
"If this world truly has so many superheroes, that might actually be a good thing," he shrugged.
"Finally, regarding Batman's identity," Coulson continued thoughtfully, "we still cannot confirm if Batman is truly Anton Jameson. The evidence we found earlier is insufficient… it seems he is deliberately misleading us."
"It's not important anymore!"
Nick said, "Now that we've located Anton, we've essentially found Batman. Whether he is Batman or not is secondary."
He looked at Coulson and instructed, "If you think DC Comics is complicated, keep an eye on them… As for the internal S.H.I.E.L.D. issue, I'll handle it."
"Understood!"
Coulson nodded and then departed.
He returned to headquarters solely to alert his director about internal issues. Once done, New York still awaited his attention.
Currently, the epicenter in New York: Anton and Tony.
The former linked to Batman, the latter to Obadiah—both troublesome figures.
Especially Anton; Batman casually mentioned a few things that sent Coulson rushing back to S.H.I.E.L.D. overnight to brief Black Egg…
Who knows if next time Batman might impulsively reveal even more, potentially destabilizing the entire organization?
