Realizing the key issue, Eddie and Phil gasped, exchanging glances, and their expressions instantly became incredulous.
Even though they had vaguely guessed the outcome, they still found it unbelievably hard to believe.
Would the Iron Soldiers really revolt?
Justin Hammer, although sometimes a bit dense, wasn't stupid. In fact, he was one of the few intelligent people.
How could such a guy ruin his own future and do something so foolish?
Watching the Iron Soldiers behind Justin Hammer adjust their cannon sights, displaying a ready-to-fire posture, Eddie and Phil suddenly fell silent.
This was practically confirmed!
Justin Hammer was about to be hammered!
At this moment, the audience near the entire exhibition stage erupted in cheers as Justin Hammer gave his speech.
The appearance of the Iron Soldiers was as shocking as Harry Osborn announcing he would become a superhero and help the citizens of New York fight crime.
The atmosphere heated up.
The entire expo entered another climax.
People had no idea that a huge crisis was approaching, having already descended silently.
"Do you know why I came to this evening's expo?"
Suddenly, Anton spoke.
A look of great interest played on his face, his gaze still fixed on Justin on the stage, and the Iron Soldiers behind Justin. Without even turning his head, he immediately attracted the attention of Eddie and Phil beside him.
"Why?"
Eddie and Phil spoke at the same time.
They were indeed curious.
"I'm just here to watch Tony get beaten up."
Anton laughed, "The Iron Soldiers' target isn't anyone else, it's Tony Stark. Don't worry, someone will clean this up."
"Tony Stark..."
Eddie was surprised.
He could tell Anton knew the inside story.
"Right."
Anton thought for a moment, then looked at Phil. "You've been wanting a chance to make a name for yourself and officially debut, haven't you? This is a good opportunity. Interested?"
"Of course!"
Phil's spirits lifted, then his face fell. "Damn it! I don't have my gear!"
When he first got the Goblin Suit modified from the Green Goblin's suit, Phil would keep his equipment in his car wherever he went, as if New York would face a crisis at any moment, and he would save the day as a superhero.
Just like his boss, who became Batman and saved New York.
But Phil never expected that, besides being sent to the Foot Clan as a mole, he'd perfectly missed every crisis in between.
A few months ago, Phil's closest moment to debuting was probably right after he screwed over the Foot Clan.
At that time, aliens invaded New York. Phil wanted to ride on Batman's coattails, to appear alongside Batman and Cyborg in the spotlight. But Phil never expected that after S.H.I.E.L.D. took him away, his equipment would be confiscated, and S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't release him until the end of the event.
Even the equipment was recovered later, only after Anton specifically called S.H.I.E.L.D. to get it back for him.
Too much!
From then on, Phil was deeply discouraged but persevered, determined to find a suitable opportunity to appear before the citizens of New York.
He could see that New York wasn't peaceful these days; there were opportunities everywhere.
But after waiting for several months, not even a ripple appeared in New York.
Damn it, even the petty robberies that usually occurred were handled by the occasional Daredevil and Spider-Man, leaving no room for Phil to make an appearance.
Phil was furious and simply threw his equipment at home.
He didn't expect that just a few days after leaving the equipment at home… something happened!
"No way?"
Phil was on the verge of tears: "Boss, is there still time for me to go back and get the equipment?"
"Forget it, just stay put."
Anton shook his head.
You blew your chance!
"The Iron Soldiers are moving!"
Anton narrowed his eyes, watching the activity on the stage, his expression slightly serious. He instructed, "Eddie, remember to take pictures later. Tony Stark getting beat up is the kind of news that deserves tomorrow's front page… Phil, go evacuate the crowd. Get them out of here quickly and give the Iron Soldiers and Iron Man enough room to fight."
"Anton, why are the Iron Soldiers rioting?"
Seeing Anton's knowing look, Eddie couldn't help but ask, "Justin Hammer shouldn't be this stupid, right?"
"It couldn't be Justin Hammer."
Anton said, "But, how do you think Justin Hammer solved the energy problem for the Iron Soldiers? Can Hammer Industries really crack technology like the Arc Reactor in such a short time?"
"You mean... the one who caused the Iron Soldiers' rampage wasn't Justin Hammer, but the person who cracked the Arc Reactor technology."
Eddie suddenly understood.
Beside him, Phil, who was greatly disheartened, didn't want to speak anymore.
"Who is he?"
Eddie's curiosity exploded, and he continued to ask.
BOOM!!
Just as Anton was about to speak, a figure descended from the sky and landed heavily on the platform in front of them.
It was a silver figure, with a slender cannon mounted on its back.
From the outside, it looked no different from Tony Stark's Mark series armor, but everyone knew the person inside this armor wasn't Tony Stark.
Tony was sitting in the audience.
"This is the armor we at Hammer Industries have put all our efforts into creating. The pilot is Air Force Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes," Justin Hammer announced.
As he spoke, the silver figure, along with the Iron Soldiers behind him, saluted everyone.
Down below.
Tony narrowed his eyes, sizing up the armor on Rhodes. He knew the internal structure and weapon loadout had been significantly replaced by Hammer Industries.
Still, it was a truly ugly look.
Tony pouted.
Followed by.
"This armor is named War Machine. As the name suggests, it's built for real combat, loaded with Hammer Industries' top-of-the-line weapons, primarily the armor-piercing Ex-Wife Missiles."
"Of course, besides the armor-piercing type, the Ex-Wife Missiles come in multiple models, are affordable, versatile, and have considerable range, accuracy, and power... No one can ignore our Hammer Industries' Ex-Wife Missiles."
Justin continued his introduction, but then saw Rhodes suddenly take action.
"Damn it!"
Rhodes's expression changed inside the armor. He found he couldn't control the armor, and the crosshairs on the virtual screen in front of him locked onto a person below the stage.
He knew this person so well!
"Tony!"
James Rhodes was shocked and immediately reminded, his voice amplified through the armor: "The armor is targeting you! Get out of the way, I can't control it."
As he spoke, a delicate, compact missile emerged from his shoulder.
Without a doubt, this was the Ex-Wife Missile that Justin Hammer had touted as both affordable and impossible to ignore.
