Emily rushed straight from the airport to the villa by car, so furious she felt smoke might rise from her head. She had called Laura several times, only to find her phone turned off.
In her agitation, she nearly ran a red light.
The car screeched to a stop in the villa's underground parking lot, and a security guard immediately approached.
Seeing Emily, he bowed respectfully and greeted, "Good evening, Madam!"
"Is my daughter home?"
Before even stepping out of the car, she demanded coldly, her voice sharp.
The guard hesitated for a moment, mentally confirming that Laura wasn't out before answering carefully, "Madam, Miss Laura hasn't left the house today, it seems."
Without another word, Emily strode toward the entrance, her expression stormy.
Servants and guards shrank back, not daring to greet her for fear of provoking her further.
She marched straight through the grand hall and up the staircase, the sharp clicks of her heels echoing through the quiet house.
