In the grand hall of the Marson family villa, Caleb and Laura stood side by side.

Mr. Williams occupied the head seat, with Emily—her face ashen—standing stiffly beside him.

The room was so silent one could hear a pin drop.

"You should know the consequences of deceiving my daughter."

Mr. Williams shot Caleb a frigid glance, his voice icy as he spoke.

His hawk-like eyes burned into the young man, radiating nothing but cold disdain.

"Uncle, I swear I haven't deceived Laura.

My feelings for her are genuine—I truly want to marry her.

No matter what you think of me, my love for her is real."

Caleb's temples pulsed with desperation as he gripped Laura's hand, his tone solemn, almost like a vow.

Mr. Williams let out a derisive snort, lifting a black teacup from the table with deliberate calm.

His gaze remained frosty.

"What kind of man you truly are… I believe your ex-wife will enlighten us."

With that, he gave the butler a silent signal.
