Chapter 13 - Under the full moon

Becky's POV:

They all came at me, but I moved with speed, clawing at them as their cries of pain filled my ears. It made me howl in happiness, my eyes now red. All I wanted was to tear until five wolves surrounded me.

"Knock her out," the boss roared at them. He was controlling this wolf.

Their eyes stared at me with killer instinct, but my mind was focused. I noticed their steps and moves, countering them. I bit the neck of one, who instantly sprawled on the ground.

The taste of blood in my mouth as the world spun and I let out a beastly growl louder this time everywhere shook. I didn't stop; I immediately jumped out the next one, clawing at him, blood spilling everywhere. "Alpha, wake up. Don't taste blood; you've not mastered your power," the voice inside called to me.

My vision cleared for a minute as I saw the strange sight: I had become my claws, my body, and the golden fur along my body. I was a werewolf, and the voice called me Alpha.

In that moment of distraction, I was pounced on by another wolf from the back, teeth tearing at my leg as I fell, blood flowing from my leg, and I winced in pain. The other wolves took this opportunity and closed in on me, but I was weak, unable to lift a limb. I could feel the presence of another wolf crying and calling for me before my body shifted back. Skin replaced fur, and my claws retracted.

I lay there naked, lying in the pool of my blood.

"Until you agree to succumb to me, remember you will be responsible for the death of everyone around you," the boss said, walking out for the wolves to take care of me or something. I shivered from the cold air on my naked body. And the other wolves were still cycling me when I heard a growl that made me sigh in relief, as if it was the wolf that had been calling me, and my vision began to blur. I could only hear the fierce tearing sounds and snapping of bones before I finally fell asleep.

Alpha Drey's POV:

My wolf howled as it reached the full moon. Most of the pack members had gone to different places in case their wolf was itchy, but here I was. Something kept calling my wolf, making me crazed.

"She's calling for us," my wolf growled. Becky. My mind snapped to her face, her scent, and her stubbornness. Rage and fear twisted in my gut. How was I supposed to go to her like this? How could I show myself to her in my wolf form? But the moon burned crimson, and my body was already breaking, fur tearing through skin.

My fur turning black and red, I shifted. It was a full moon, and all my senses heightened. I growled into the night as I traced where the scent was coming from, my wolf howling. I was no longer in control.

I arrived at the old warehouse just as a scream split the night. The stink of strange werewolves filled my nose. I saw her, Becky, sprawled on the ground, naked, blood streaking her skin, wolves circling her like vultures. My vision went red at the thought of what they must have done. Why did they make her naked? My blood boiled hot.

I launched myself at the first wolf, claws ripping, teeth breaking bone. Another sprang at me; I caught it mid-air and threw it against the wall. My growl shook the rafters. No one would touch her. Not while I breathed.

As the last wolf fell back whimpering, I stepped over Becky's body, shielding her with mine. Her eyes fluttered open for a heartbeat, unfocused, then closed again. The red moon poured through the shattered windows, bathing us both in bloodlight.

I hissed in pain as my heart twisted at the sight of her like this. I saw a coat lying on the floor and went to pick it up, wanting to cover her body. She was hot, which at another time I'd have stared at her body, but now she was in danger…

Becky POV:

The smell of blood filled my nose, warm and metallic. My body trembled where I lay on the floor, naked and slick with my blood. Every muscle screamed of pain; my fingers still twitched with the memory of claws. I had been an animal. A monster, the same creature I hated. I felt footsteps and the breath of an animal walking towards it paused in front of me, and for an instant I thought it was another attacker, but I was too tired; my body ached. I waited for it to show teeth or claws, but instead of claws, there was smooth fur and the faint scent of pine. A coat. It was dragging a coat over me.

I forced my eyes open and froze.

A massive wolf crouched above me, its fur black streaked with red as though the moonlight itself had branded it. I remember this Eyes of the Wolf at the cliff, and also he had killed someone in my presence. The first time I saw it, I hated it at first. Its eyes, like burning coals, fixed on mine.

Fear jolted me upright. I tried to crawl backwards, but my leg went weak under me.

The wolf lowered itself, ears flat, tail low, a low whine rising from its throat. It was not one of threat. More like it was begging me not to fear him; it was not posturing as a predator.

The sound softened something inside me. I was shaking, but slowly, I carefully reached out. My fingers slid into thick fur; it was warm and fluffy under my trembling hand. Then my eyes drifted to the other wolves that were surrounding me, some sprawled on the ground injured or dead; I didn't know.

"Are you… are you the one who fought them?" I whispered.

He only answered with a long, mournful howl that lifted every hair on my body.

"I will take that as a yes," I said, rubbing its fur.

I pulled the coat tighter around me, shivering. My injured leg made me wince as I got up, trying to steady myself.

The sound of footsteps drew near. I immediately froze, my heart racing as I turned my head. From the shadows was a tall man in a mask. It was the boss; he had returned with two of his men.

his voice cut through the night, sending a shiver down my spine.

"I see the Alpha ran out under the full moon," he sneered. "Throwing away your sanity for this girl?"

The wolf's hackles rose, a growl building in his chest.

"Do you even know who she is?" the man continued, his voice cold.

"You got yourself entangled with someone that I set my eyes on. I'll use her to destroy you," he snarled like a maniac.

"Leave the werewolf out of this," I snapped, my voice hoarse. I wondered how my stamina managed to endure this pain. "He's innocent. He saved me!"

The man's head tilted, amused. "Innocent? You are the innocent one, so trusting of others. You both are natural-born enemies." "Unless you come with me, anyone who comes in contact with you will meet the same fate," he said softly. I could feel his obsession in his words.

He tossed something onto the ground at the wolf's paws. A syringe, its contents glinting under the blood-red moon.

"The only way either of you leaves here alive," he said, "is if he allows my men to inject him. I know he's strong, but can he save you all by himself? It's the full moon, and I know you're most vulnerable. Otherwise…" He raised a gun, the barrel gleaming. "… I shoot her."

The wolf snarled, then stilled. His head lowered, muscles trembling with the effort to hold back.

"Don't," I whispered, heart hammering. "Don't hurt him, please!"

The man didn't even glance at me. "Do it. Now."

One of his men stepped forward, grabbed the scruff of the wolf's neck, and drove the needle into his flank. The Alpha let out a strangled whine as his legs buckled, the drug flooding his body.

"No!" I screamed, lunging forward, but a second man caught me and shoved me back to the ground. My palms burned as gravel bit into my skin.

The man with the gun crouched so that his shadow fell across me. "Remember this, girl," he said quietly. "I won't let you get away from me. Anything I set my eyes on, I get. You will come begging me " He stood and signaled his men. They turned and melted into the dark, boots splashing through mud.

I crawled to the wolf. He was sprawled on the floor, breathing slowly, his eyes shining with pain. His massive body twitched as whatever they'd injected took hold; he clawed at the floor "Why?" I choked out to no one. "Why did you let them?"

There was no answer, only the echo of retreating footsteps and the slow, pained whimper of the creature who had come to save me.

I pressed both hands to his fur, feeling his heart hammer wildly under my palms. "Stay with me," I whispered. "Please don't leave me now."

His eyes flickered to mine, still burning even through the haze of the drug. Then his head sagged to the ground.
