Chapter 62 - The White Buck

The biggest buck she'd ever seen, at least twelve points on his wrack, jumped out of the woods. His large eyes glistened in the beam of her light, freezing him in place for a stark second, before he leapt back into the safety of the trees. Shock and awe numbed Blue for a moment as the entirety of what she'd just witnessed settled in. Could it really be? Had she just put eyes on the infamous White Buck? She shined the flashlight at the spot where the legendary buck had disappeared just beyond a copse of blackjack oaks. The scattered light picked up something light in color, almost white, on the ground between two trees.

Blue took off down the incline, sliding halfway down the slope, coating herself in muck. "Shit!" She scrabbled to her feet and hurried down the incline. Her hat kept most of the rain off her face, but it still managed to find its way under her coat's collar and drip down the back of her shirt.
