"I thought the memorial was quite lovely," said Milly. "Your father would've been so proud of you."
The mayor had unexpectedly awarded Blue a Star of Texas award for her response to the crisis and stopping Neil Conroy from continuing his murder spree.
"Hello, Blue!" Shana, who had barely survived Neil's beating, was dressed in a pink, knee-length dress and carrying Sweetie in a matching pink bag. She stopped in front of them. "Isn't this nice?"
"It's wonderful," said Milly, reaching out to scratch the tiny round head of the Chihuahua. "How are you doing, dear?"
"Now that trial is over and Neil's going to death row, I'm much better. I'm taking online classes to get my degree in social work."
"That's great," said Blue.
"I've been volunteering at the women's shelter. Ms. Shelby really helped me, and I want to do the same for someone else. Pay it forward and such. How are y'all doing?"
