Hatty saw Laura and Deputy Riley share a look, then Deputy Riley said, "Lila disappeared this morning. She never made it onto the school bus."
Floyd's already pale face lost what color was left. He clutched the blankets. "What are you saying? Someone took Lila?"
Hatty felt cold chills zip up her spine. That poor baby girl. Well, that's what happened when you left innocent children in the care of their no-good mamas.
