Chapter 26 - I don't even know what I'm saying at this point

"What was that about?" Ginny asked me as we turned the corner. We walked a few steps but then stopped against a wall for a moment. Students were passing along the hall loudly, their chatter filling the air. I attempted to block out the noise and just stand there for a second. Trying to process what had just occurred.

It was nothing...

I looked at Ginny for a second as she awaited my reply and just shook my head in response. "I don't know... I mean he obviously really likes me..."

I replied to the question, knowing she was talking about Snape's reaction to my terrible potion skills, but in my head I asked myself the same question.

What was that about?

What was that voice...

Rolling my eyes slightly and shaking off the odd feeling that had overtaken me, I reached into the pocket of my robes and absentmindedly traced the wood of my wand with my fingers.

Ginny nodded, giving me a small smile. "Those questions he asked were really unfair... I don't think anyone knew them." she continued, running her hands through her bright red hair.

"Yeah..." I said quietly while looking over my shoulder.

Something still feels off...

I still felt strangely nervous, and my senses were completely thrown off.

I mean... there was no one there... right? There couldn't have been.

Nope... nothing just happened. It's all in my head.

All in my head...

"Are you okay?" Ginny asked me with a bit of concern laced in her voice as she pulled me from my thoughts.

Blinking several times at the sound of her voice, I immediately straightened and nodded. "Yeah... I'm great!" I replied. Attempting to fix my face with a smile... but it probably looked more like a grimace.

Ginny tilted her head at me for a second and looked like she was going to question me further, so I quickly changed the subject.

"Don't we have to get to..." I paused as I completely forgot what class we had next. "Erm... what class is it?"

Ginny shifted while looking slightly uncomfortable. "It's Defense Against the Dark Arts next." she said quietly as she adjusted the books she was carrying. She bit her lip and looked away from me, a moment later starting to walk away without another word.

Great... I just did that...

I was left standing there for a moment, not sure exactly what to do or what to say. Taking a deep breath, I started walking quickly to catch up to Ginny's fast pace.

"Hey, Ginny... I didn't mean to interrupt you or anything..." I quickly said, as I caught up to her with an apologetic look on my face. "I was just... you know... thrown off by that whole Potions thing."

Ginny just clutched her books against her chest, looking anywhere else but at me, her fingers practically cutting into the shabby black cover of a book at the back of her stack. Looking slightly panicked for a second, she closed her eyes, opening them only a moment later and moving her gaze to look at me. "I know. I just want to get to class."

I nodded but she had already turned away, walking towards our next class... that I had to follow her to because I had no idea where it was. I took another deep breath while tracing the engravings on my wand before moving to catch up to Ginny.

I don't really know what just happened... I mean, we were just having a conversation.

...And I was distracted by that strange voice thing that was definitely just in my head and can in no possible way actually be a thing... just like that letter is definitely not a thing...

Wait why am I calling it a thing? It's not a thing... more like... a problem? But it's not a problem because, like I just said, it's not even a thing!

I don't even know what I'm saying at this point...
