Chapter 34 - Hollywood

Chapter 34: Lights, Camera, Action: Holmes Goes Hollywood

In the five days following his triumphant return to Chicago, Holmes received an unexpected phone call that would change the course of his career. It was from none other than Steven Spielberg, the legendary director of such iconic films as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and Saving Private Ryan.

Spielberg had been impressed by Holmes's charisma, his stage presence, and his compelling personality. He believed that Holmes had the potential to become a star in Hollywood, and he wanted to give him a chance to prove it.

"Holmes, this is Steven Spielberg," the director said, his voice warm and inviting. "I've been following your career for a while now, and I'm incredibly impressed by your talent and your drive."

Holmes was stunned. "Mr. Spielberg, it's an honor to speak with you," he replied, his voice filled with respect.

"I'm currently working on a new film called Minority Report, a sci-fi thriller starring Tom Cruise," Spielberg continued. "I have a small but memorable role that I think you would be perfect for. Would you be interested in taking a look at the script?"

Holmes didn't hesitate for a moment. "Absolutely, Mr. Spielberg," he said. "I would be thrilled to read the script."

Spielberg sent the script to Holmes's hotel room later that day. Holmes devoured it, captivated by the story, the characters, and the themes. He knew that this was an opportunity he couldn't afford to miss.

The role that Spielberg had in mind for Holmes was that of a "Precog," one of the three psychics whose visions are used to prevent crimes before they happen. Holmes's character would have a brief but crucial scene in the film, interacting with Tom Cruise and providing vital information.

Procedures for Securing the Role:Audition: Although Spielberg had already offered Holmes the role, he still wanted him to audition to ensure that he was the right fit for the part. Holmes flew to Los Angeles and auditioned for Spielberg and the casting director. He delivered a powerful and convincing performance, impressing Spielberg with his acting skills and his commitment to the role.

2. Contract Negotiation: After the audition, Holmes's manager negotiated the terms of his contract with Spielberg's representatives. They discussed his salary, his billing, and other details of his involvement in the film.

3. Preparation: Holmes spent several days preparing for his role, working with an acting coach to hone his skills and develop his character. He studied the script, researched the themes of the film, and worked on his delivery.
