Chapter 107: Unbreakable - Bridges Burned
Date: January 18th, 2003, Friday
The joy of Holmes's engagement was briefly overshadowed by a tense encounter with one of his closest friends, Mariah Carey.
- A Difference of Opinion: A well-intentioned suggestion spiraled into a heated argument.
The Meeting:
Following the engagement celebration, Mariah requested a private conversation with Holmes.
Realistic Scene:
- Holmes and Mariah sat in a quiet corner of Holmes's mansion, away from the festivities.
Realistic Conversation:
- Mariah: "Holmes, I'm so happy for you and Serene. But I wanted to talk to you about something else."
- Holmes: "What's on your mind, Mariah?"
- Mariah: "I think it's time for you to make peace with Ja Rule. All this beef is getting out of hand."
Holmes's Disagreement:
Holmes bristled at Mariah's suggestion.
Realistic Conversation:
- Holmes: "Are you serious, Mariah? After everything he's done? After he tried to come at me?"
- Mariah: "But Holmes, you're both talented artists. You could do great things together if you put aside your differences."
- Holmes: "He ain't talented I ain't trying to join hands with that fucker."
The Argument:
The discussion quickly escalated into a heated argument.
Realistic Conversation:
- Mariah: "Holmes, you're being stubborn! You need to let go of this anger."
- Holmes: "He tried to end my fuckin career!"
- Mariah: "I'm only trying to help, Holmes. I care about you both."
- Holmes: "I appreciate it, Mariah, but you don't understand. He crossed a line."

- Mariah: "But you escalated things by dropping that "Bloody Christmas" track. That was way too far. You're better than that."
- Holmes: "And I'm better than getting shot on stage too.
The Falling Out:
The argument reached a boiling point.
- Mariah: "I can't believe you're being so unreasonable! I'm trying to help you and this is how you act?"
- Holmes: "Maybe you need to stay out of my personal shit
- Mariah: "Fine I should have never tried to help you guys you are too stubborn.
Visibly upset, Mariah stood up and walk away
- Mariah stormed out of the room, her heels clicking angrily on the marble floor.
- Mariah (as she walks out): "I can't believe you, Holmes! I thought you were smarter than this. You have my number so hit me up when you stop being stubborn."
- Holmes: "Whatever, Mariah!
The chapter ends with Holmes feeling conflicted and hurt. He valued his friendship with Mariah, but he couldn't bring himself to reconcile with Ja Rule.
