Chapter 60 - CHAPTER-60

The applause was thunderous, vibrating through the entire hall like rolling waves crashing against a shore. People were on their feet, clapping, cheering, whistling. Alina's hands were red from how hard she was clapping, and Maya beside her looked as if she was about to cry from joy. Ryan clapped politely, leaning back into his seat, his lips tugging upward at the sight of how utterly lost both girls were in the moment.

Ethan Vale stood at the center of the stage, still in the costume from the final act. His chest was rising and falling quickly, sweat glistening at his temples under the bright stage lights. His expression wasn't proud or smug; it was raw. Vulnerable.

The music faded, but the curtain didn't drop yet. Instead, a microphone stand was carried in. Ethan accepted the mic from the stagehand, his hand trembling almost imperceptibly.

And then silence. A silence so pure and heavy that even the creak of a chair in the audience felt too loud.

"Tonight…" Ethan began, his voice rough at the edges, as if he'd been holding back tears through the whole final act. "…tonight you all gave me more than applause. You gave me home."

The audience stirred, touched immediately by the weight of his tone.

Ethan smiled faintly, eyes sweeping over the crowd. "When I was a kid, I didn't grow up dreaming about fame. I grew up dreaming about survival. About whether I'd even have enough money to eat. Acting wasn't supposed to be my career. It was supposed to be my escape."

Maya clutched Alina's hand. Alina blinked, her throat tightening.

"You see…" Ethan continued, his gaze lifting upward as though searching for the right words, "…acting was never about the spotlight for me. It was about being someone else for a moment. Being a king, a soldier, a fool, anyone but the boy sitting on a cold pavement with an empty stomach."

There were audible gasps. The crowd, many of them long-time fans, had heard rumors of Ethan's difficult past but never directly from him. Tonight, he was peeling himself open in front of them.

"I played on the streets," Ethan admitted. "I used to set up in small alleys, busy intersections. People would walk past me. Most of them never cared. Some laughed. Some threw coins just to mock me. I told myself every day if I can make even one person stop, just one, then maybe this dream is worth chasing."

He paused, and his knuckles whitened as he gripped the microphone tighter. His eyes softened, turning vulnerable in a way no one had ever seen before.

"And one day… one man stopped."

Alina and Maya leaned forward unconsciously. Ryan's head turned slightly, curiosity flickering in his usually calm eyes.

Ethan's lips trembled into a half-smile. "He stood there… tall, quiet, just watching. Everyone else kept walking, but he… he stayed. From the beginning of my little act till the end. No interruptions, no mocking, no rush to leave. He clapped for me. Just one person in a crowd that never cared. Do you know what that felt like?"

He let out a shaky laugh. "It felt like the world had finally decided I wasn't invisible."

The audience grew restless with emotion. Someone in the back shouted, "WE CARE, ETHAN!" and laughter rippled warmly, but Ethan held up his hand.

"That man… changed everything for me. Because when the show was over, he didn't just leave. He came to me. He said, Don't stop. Whatever you do, don't stop. You belong on a stage bigger than this street."

Ethan's voice grew steadier now, stronger, carrying the weight of years of gratitude. "That man… was Kai Arden."

The name detonated in the theater like a thunderclap. Gasps spread through the audience. A famous name. An unexpected one.

Alina froze. She blinked several times, her pulse skyrocketing. Kai Arden? The Kai Arden who had quietly hidden so much from the world…?

Her eyes darted to Ryan, who raised his brows but didn't comment, and Maya's jaw had practically dropped to the floor.

Ethan pressed on, ignoring the shocked murmurs.

"Yes," Ethan said firmly, his voice cutting through the sea of whispers. "Kai Arden. The man you all know for his brilliance on screen… the man who gave me the courage to stand here today. He was the first person who believed in me when no one else did."

His throat worked as he swallowed, tears pooling in his eyes. "Kai didn't just encourage me. He gave me money when I had nothing. He bought me proper shoes when mine were falling apart. He introduced me to someone who gave me my first small theater role. And when I failed because I did, he told me to get back up again. And never give up "

The audience was utterly silent now. Not one sound, not one cough. Every eye was on him.

"I owe everything to him. My career, my courage, my persistence. Without Kai Arden… Ethan Vale wouldn't exist." His voice broke. His shoulders shook.

Ethan wiped his eyes quickly with the back of his hand. "And I know… I know you told me never to say this, Mr. Arden." He looked upward, as if Kai himself were in the rafters, watching silently. His lips curved into a trembling smile. "You told me, 'Don't reveal my name. Let the world believe you rose by your own strength.' You wanted me to shine without your shadow. But tonight…" His voice cracked, louder, stronger, "…tonight I can't hide it anymore. Tonight, I want the world to know who held me up when I couldn't stand."

A ripple of cries, sniffles, and murmurs coursed through the hall. Even men in the audience were wiping at their eyes.

"Mr. Kai Arden… I'm sorry for breaking my promise. But the world deserves to know. You are the reason I'm standing here."

Ethan gripped the mic tighter, his chest rising and falling as though the weight of all his years, all his gratitude, pressed against his ribs. The theater was silent, every ear tuned to his words, every heart waiting.

He glanced down for a moment, gathering himself, then looked back up, his voice steadier but soaked in emotion.

"People think they know Kai Arden," his tone cutting through the air like truth itself. "They see him on screen, they hear stories, they watch him from afar. And yes… I know what you've heard. That he's cold. That he's arrogant. That he doesn't care. That he's… rude."

The audience stirred. Murmurs rippled, because it was true Kai's reputation had been carved sharp by rumors, by critics, by half-truths. Ethan's lips trembled into the faintest, pained smile. "But let me tell you something that is not the man I know. That is not Kai Arden."

He paused, voice catching, but his eyes glowed with conviction. "Yes, he has sharp words. Yes, he doesn't dress them up with sugar or butter. But if you think his honesty is cruelty, then you've never really listened to the heart behind it. People misunderstand him because he isn't like everyone else. He doesn't say what you want to hear. He says what's real."

Ethan pressed his hand over his chest. "The Kai Arden I know…is not in the loud, easy way you expect, not in the way that makes headlines or pretty stories. His love is quiet. His care is silent. You won't see it unless you look closer. You won't understand it unless you let yourself get close enough to him."

The silence grew thicker, heavier, but no one moved. The air was charged, almost reverent.

Ethan's gaze swept the crowd, firm, unwavering. "He is the kind of man who will watch a nobody perform on the street and make him feel like the world is listening. He is the kind of man who will stand by you when everyone else walks away. He doesn't show it with smiles or words. He shows it with action, with presence. And once you see it, once you really know him… you'll understand. He's not cruel. He's not careless. He's not the man you think he is."

Ethan's throat tightened, but he forced the words out, strong, unshakable. "He's the reason I'm here. He's the reason I didn't give up. And tonight, I needed all of you to know that. Because Kai Arden is not just an actor, not just a star… He is a man who believes in people. And I owe him everything."

The crowd erupted in applause, but Ethan didn't bow this time. He stood there, tall and trembling, letting the truth echo into the air like thunder that refused to be silenced.

The hall erupted. Cheers louder than the opening itself shook the walls. People screamed Kai Arden's name. Others screamed Ethan's. It was chaos, but chaos born of love and awe.

Maya had tears streaming down her cheeks, clutching Alina's hand so tight it almost hurt. "Oh my God… Alina, did you hear that? Kai! Kai!"

Alina sat frozen, her world spinning. She replayed every quiet moment she'd had with him. His calm, reserved nature, the strange flickers of softness, and his hidden smiles. He had been carrying this enormous secret all along.

Ryan glanced at her, noticing her expression shift, but he said nothing.

On stage, Ethan bowed deeply, holding the microphone against his chest, tears finally breaking free down his cheeks.
