Chapter 16 - Chapter 16:"The Hidden Quest I Wasn’t Supposed to Unlock"

The air outside the Academy smelled of damp stone and pine. I frowned, holding the blank diary under my arm. Even without guidance, my instincts were sharp enough to know something had changed.

"The diary… it's completely blank. I can't tell what's coming next."

Whiskerdoom looked at me with a mix of worry and curiosity. "Then we proceed with caution. That's all we can do."

"Yeah, but… caution usually comes with instructions!" I groaned.

Whiskerdoom, perched on my shoulder, flicked his tail. "No instructions, no problem. Just your brilliant mind versus the world. You ready to look like a hero by accident?"

"Not a hero! Not me!" I muttered, adjusting the diary strap like it would somehow refill itself.I found Eren on the way.

We passed the Academy gates, walking down a path I didn't recognize. Thick trees arched overhead, forming a shadowy tunnel. "Wait… this isn't on the map," I said, stopping in my tracks. "I've never seen this path before."

Eren paused and looked around. "I think… it's new. Or hidden. Maybe even sealed off."

A faint shimmer appeared in the distance. A figure stood there, cloaked in gray, face hidden under a hood. The figure raised a hand, holding a small glowing orb.

"Ah, travelers," a voice echoed, smooth and strange. "I have a task for you. One that does not appear in any official records."

I frowned. "Official records? What kind of quest is this?"

The figure tilted the hood. "A hidden quest. Dangerous. Forbidden. Yet necessary. Only you two can complete it."

Eren glanced at me, tension in his posture. "Do you… trust them?"

"Not at all," I said quickly, my hand inching toward the hilt of my sword. "But we don't exactly have a choice if we want to survive, right?"

Whiskerdoom leapt onto the ground with a soft thump. "Oh, of course you do. Who doesn't like a little forbidden forest adventure? You might even make it back alive. Maybe."

The figure handed us the orb. "Follow the light. Find the fragment hidden in the sealed forest. But beware… the forest does not welcome intruders kindly."

I stared at the orb, feeling its warm glow pulsing in my hands. It was beautiful… and wrong. Nothing in Blade Destiny had ever done this.

"What do you mean, does not welcome intruders kindly?" I asked.

The figure's voice softened. "It will test you. Your choices, your fears, your loyalty. Some who enter never return."

I gulped. "Great. A death trap, right? Just what I needed. Thanks."

Eren sighed. "Then we move carefully. Together."

I muttered under my breath, "And I thought surviving the Princess's smiles was hard…"

The forest ahead seemed to breathe. Shadows shifted, whispers danced around the trees, and the path seemed to twist as we walked. I glanced at Eren, who was keeping pace silently, eyes sharp.

"You think this is even in the game?" I whispered.

"No," I said. "This… this feels different. Real."

Whiskerdoom's ears twitched. "Welcome to uncharted territory, genius. Try not to die too quickly. I don't enjoy cleaning up after failed heroes."

I clenched my fists. "No diary. No rules. No map. Just… us."

And with that, we stepped deeper into the sealed forest, toward a quest that shouldn't exist, toward dangers that weren't in the script, and toward fragments of a story that only the world knew… not me.
