Chapter 120 - A Storm, a Lie, and a Devil Waiting

"You might not," he said softly, "but I do."

 

Lance hand came up, cupping my cheek. His face was painfully handsome in the dim light—eyes shining with frustration, regret, and something dangerously close to despair.

 

"I failed you once," he continued. "You became the scapegoat. You sacrificed so much for us. And now…" His thumb trembled against my skin. "I can't even protect you a second time. I felt powerless before. But now—even with all this fame—I feel worse. What's the point of it?"

 

I exhaled slowly.

 

"I understand how you feel," I said quietly. "And it's not like I didn't consider your side. I already know how to fix this." I looked away. "I just haven't done it yet. I was enjoying my paid vacation leave." I paused. "…Which you just ruined, by the way, by posting something unnecessary."

 

"Huh?" He blinked. "What?"

 

"Uhm…" The driver cleared his throat awkwardly. "We're here."
