That night, we had a small bonfire by the lake.

Kai roasted marshmallows aggressively.

Eric told embarrassing stories.

Lance laughed.

Ren sat beside me again.

Our hands brushed.

I didn't pull away.

Neither did he.

"You cold?" he asked.

"A little."

He draped his jacket over my shoulders.

Again.

I smiled. "You're predictable."

"Only with you."

My heart fluttered.

We stared at the fire, shoulders touching.

"You know," I said, "we're really bad at hiding."

He chuckled. "Yeah."

"Do you care?"

"Not anymore."

I turned to him. "What if they notice?"

"They already have."

I glanced at Kai.

He winked.

Traitor.

Ren squeezed my hand.

Soft.

Gentle.

"This is okay," he whispered. "Right?"

"Yes," I whispered back.

Later, when everyone went to bed, I lingered outside again.

Ren joined me.

Of course.

"You're going to catch a cold," he said.

"Worth it."

We stood by the lake, moonlight reflecting off the water.
