Chapter 96 - Lost His Mind

Han Yu spoke bluntly, not giving even a shred of face.

Pierce's expression changed instantly. He had long been used to veiled insults and roundabout jabs in political circles, but such direct, unrestrained words still made his face twitch. Helpless before the overwhelming difference in power between them, he could only swallow his anger and continue speaking with forced politeness.

"As expected of a young hero—no wonder even Nick Fury admits he's inferior to you," Pierce said, borrowing a phrase from Han Yu's homeland to offer flattery.

But Han Yu's next words made the corners of his mouth twitch again.

"Hero my ass. Get lost if you've got nothing better to do. I don't have time to waste on you—I've got a gift to deliver to the Captain."

Han Yu shot back without any trace of courtesy. As he spoke, he even reached out to pat the Winter Soldier standing beside him, clearly provoking the other side.

At last, Pierce couldn't hold it in anymore. His face darkened as he shouted, "Don't push your luck!"

At his words, one of his bodyguards immediately reached for his gun—but before his hand could even grasp the weapon, there was a blur, and the next moment his hand came up empty.

In the blink of an eye, several pistols had appeared in Quicksilver's hands. When the guards checked themselves, their holsters were already empty—the weapons in Quicksilver's hands were theirs.

"What's this? You guys looking for a fight? With that level?"

With a few swift motions, Quicksilver disassembled all the pistols into piles of scattered parts on the floor. It was a skill he had recently taught himself; after all, he couldn't spend all his time playing games.

"So fast… Is this the power granted by Loki's scepter?"

A flicker of astonishment flashed across Pierce's eyes. He knew full well that Quicksilver and Wanda's powers came from Loki's scepter.

The bodyguards exchanged glances, seeing the same shock reflected in each other's eyes. But they had a backup plan. Reaching behind their waists, they drew a second set of pistols.

They raised them in unison and opened fire on Han Yu. The dark barrels spat fire—but Han Yu didn't even move.

In the next instant, the bullets vanished midair.

Then, before anyone could react, the bodyguards—and even Pierce himself—let out terrified screams. The ground beneath their feet had suddenly turned into a vertical wall. They scrambled desperately to cling to the "ledge" above them.

Below was an endless abyss that made their heads spin. They clutched the wall with all their might, their strength quickly draining away.

"What's going on? What happened?!"

Beads of sweat the size of peas rolled down Pierce's forehead. Trembling, he peered into the bottomless pit below. Just moments ago, it had been solid ground—now it was an endless chasm.

"Could this be some kind of hypnosis? Yes, that must be it! Hah! Petty tricks!"

He tried to reassure himself. Hydra had its own methods of hypnosis, and in most cases, a sharp pain could snap someone out of it. Gritting his teeth, he closed his eyes and bit hard on the tip of his tongue.

But when he opened his eyes again—the abyss was still there.

Then, suddenly, a slick, slithering sensation brushed against his hand. He looked up—and saw countless crimson pythons flicking their forked tongues, their triangular eyes locked on him.

The sight hit like a lightning bolt to the brain. His scalp went numb as the serpents opened their gaping maws and lunged at him. Overwhelmed by primal terror, Pierce screamed and lost his grip.

His shrieks grew fainter and fainter as he plummeted into the abyss—until they vanished altogether.

The next moment, he found himself lying flat on the floor.

Panicked, he looked around—only to see the same old convenience store around him. When he lifted his head, he caught sight of Wanda's eyes, the red glow in them slowly fading away.

"Oh? So he couldn't hold on after all? That's it? Hydra's leader can't even handle that much?" Han Yu looked down at Pierce from above, his tone calm, though a faint smile played in his voice.

"So it really was an illusion?"

Pierce struggled to his feet, his legs trembling violently. He stood unsteadily, swaying as though his knees might buckle any moment.

His bodyguards, meanwhile, were still sprawled on the ground, their fingers dug so tightly into the cracks between the floor tiles that they bled—but they didn't let go.

From the looks on their faces, they were still fighting for their lives against the serpents in Wanda's illusion.

"Anything else? If not, you can leave now."

Han Yu smiled faintly. From start to finish, he had remained seated calmly in his chair, never lifting a hand—yet the other side had been scared so badly their legs had gone weak and sweat drenched their backs.

If they had really fought, these people wouldn't even qualify as cannon fodder.

"Monsters! You're monsters!"

Pierce screamed hysterically, pointing a trembling finger at Han Yu and the others. As he stumbled backward, his legs gave out and he fell hard to the floor—but he scrambled on all fours, clawing his way out of the shop.

Under the bewildered gazes of the passersby outside, he bolted down the street, shrieking like a madman.

"He's high," one bystander muttered.

"Yeah, look at him—dressed all fancy, but tripping in broad daylight. Guess the rich really do have their own kind of fun."

"Keep your distance! Anyone crazy enough to do that in daylight—he's trouble."

Seeing the deranged Pierce running off, everyone quickly stepped aside, afraid to get caught up in whatever madness was going on.

Ultron and Quicksilver both burst into laughter at the sight. The latter even glanced at the Winter Soldier and said, "So that's Hydra's great leader? What a joke. With that kind of level, he thought he could negotiate with our boss? Seems like just any random cat or dog can become a leader these days."

The Winter Soldier didn't respond. In an ordinary situation, Pierce would never have lost his composure—but this kind of magical assault wasn't something normal people could withstand. The fact that he hadn't died of shock on the spot was already impressive.

"Mr. Barnes," Han Yu said, nodding toward the bodies on the floor, "I'll leave these ones to you to clean up."

This kind of "cleanup" job was best left to the Winter Soldier—he could do it more efficiently and discreetly than anyone else.

The Winter Soldier nodded, borrowed a few tools from Ultron, and calmly knocked out the unconscious Hydra agents before beginning his work.

Han Yu, Ultron, and Wanda headed upstairs, leaving only Quicksilver behind—he claimed he wanted to "learn" from the Winter Soldier.

With someone like him around, the cleanup naturally went much faster. The Winter Soldier didn't object. Watching his serious teaching demeanor, anyone who didn't see the bloodied men on the ground might have thought it was some kind of formal training session.

Five minutes later, both the Winter Soldier and Quicksilver came upstairs.

"All done?" Han Yu asked.

The Winter Soldier sighed helplessly. "I felt more like the assistant. I didn't even finish giving instructions before he was already done."

"As long as it's done," Han Yu said with a faint smile. "Clean up the blood on yourself. I'll contact Rogers—he'll come pick you up soon."
