Ethan's POV
The moment I sped out of the rogue district, the only thing in my head was Soraya.
Her laugh.
Her scent.
Her smile when she said my name.
The way her hand felt in mine the night we first sat in our dinning, the night she gave me everything.
My chest tightened.
My hands gripped the steering wheel hard enough to crack it.
"Hold on, Soraya," I whispered to the empty car. "I'm coming. I swear to the moon goddess—I'm coming."
The location on my phone blinked like a heartbeat, pulsing faster, dragging me toward the outskirts of the city.
But then...
Everything stopped.
Red lights reflected in my windshield, unmoving. Cars piled ahead. People shouting. Smoke rising.
A massive accident blocked the entrance of the bridge.
"No. No, no—NOT NOW."
I slammed my palm against the wheel and cursed violently.
Every second wasted felt like another second Soraya might be suffering.
I couldn't wait. I wouldn't.
