Chapter 90 - "Chapter 92:All Brawn, and Brains Too"

Dudley saw that Dumbledore's initial conditions for his Disciplinary Committee were far too strict, making the entire thing pointless. So he decided to walk away. When negotiating, the key is to hold the upper hand, and Dudley, who built a company from nothing in the Muggle world, knew this better than anyone. He had muscle, but he wasn't just brawn.

This move caught Dumbledore by surprise. He'd seen Dudley's ambition, but not his cunning. The Disciplinary Committee was simply a way to ensure a peaceful life at school, and if it was going to be filled with restrictions, Dudley saw no need for it. He figured he could achieve his goals through sheer power alone, especially now that his Ripple Breathing was even stronger. Power was a useful tool, but not an essential one. Dudley's main focus was always on his own abilities.

"If that's all, Professor, I'll be going," Dudley said, yawning and turning to leave. He wasn't going to play Dumbledore's games.

Just as he was about to reach the door, he heard Dumbledore's voice behind him. "What is it you want to do, Dudley?"

Dudley turned around slowly. "There's no need to rush, Professor," he said. "This is just an idea. It will take time to get it off the ground, but we can start with some preliminary work."

"And what would that be?" Dumbledore asked.

"Training the right members," Dudley replied, holding up a finger. "I can't do this alone. I need excellent help."

Dumbledore, seeing where this was going, asked, "So, who do you have in mind?"

Dudley listed the obvious first: Hermione, Harry, Ron, Neville, and Malfoy. Then he added some more unexpected names: Cedric Diggory, Percy Weasley, Elizabeth from Ravenclaw, and a seventh-year Slytherin named Carrow.

"I believe we can start by training the first five," Dudley said, "maybe with some extra lessons on the weekends."

Dumbledore sighed, a smile playing on his lips. "I see what you're up to, Dudley. You want extra private tutoring for your friends. I'll have to ask the other professors to do this for free."

With the negotiation in his favor, Dudley laid out his terms. They would spend the next two terms preparing. If they passed Dumbledore's test, the Disciplinary Committee would officially be formed at the end of the first year, but its jurisdiction would expand as they advanced. By the time he was in his fifth year, the committee would oversee all four houses, from first years to seventh years.

"You're quite bold, Dudley," Dumbledore said, but his lack of an immediate "no" meant he was considering it.

Dumbledore then brought up the issue of punishing professors. "I can't give you the power to discipline professors, Dudley," he admitted. "Unless you were to gain a higher authority within Hogwarts... perhaps by becoming an heir of the four founders?" He suggested that if Dudley did that, he could eventually take over as Headmaster and shape Hogwarts as he saw fit.

Dudley simply smiled. "You're only a hundred years old, Professor. You're still young. I hope you're still Headmaster when my children come to school." He was politely refusing the offer, but he could also sense a strange sadness in Dumbledore when he spoke of retirement.

Dudley knew that Dumbledore wasn't just being generous. He understood that while it seemed like Dudley was getting free private lessons for his friends, Dumbledore was getting a free labor force to help bring about change at Hogwarts. It was a classic Dumbledore move, but Dudley was smart enough to see it.
