Inside a hotel room, Xiaotian carefully pulled out the external soul bone he had received from the system. From his storage soul guide appeared a set of transparent, sword-shaped wings with three pairs of sharp, elegant feathers.
(Author's Note: This external soul bone was a system reward from an earlier mission. It wasn't shown in detail before, but Xiaotian is using it now to grow stronger.)
"System, block the aura around me. Don't let the soul bone's energy leak out."
After giving his instructions, Xiaotian sat cross-legged on the bed and began absorbing the soul bone.
Half an hour later, he opened his eyes, filled with excitement. This external soul bone was incredible!
His soul power instantly jumped by two levels, bringing him to level nineteen.
The ethereal sword wings gave him two main abilities:
Sword Wings Soaring – flight with increased speed.
Ethereal Sword Qi – release sword energy to attack nearby enemies while flying.
Strictly speaking, the first ability came naturally with the wings, so he only counted the second as a real skill.
Standing in front of the mirror, Xiaotian spread his glowing, nearly transparent sword wings. They shimmered with a beauty both sharp and elegant.
Over the next year, Xiaotian continued training hard, sparring with Xiao Wu and bullying Tang San as usual.
The results were clear: Tang San reached level twenty after getting his second soul ring—a ghost vine—thanks to the help of the Nottingham College dean.
But compared to Xiaotian and Xiao Wu, Tang San's progress was the slowest.
Xiaotian had already reached level twenty-four, while Xiao Wu was at twenty-two.
Unlike them, Xiaotian's second soul ring wasn't from hunting—it was another direct reward from the system.
That ring gave him exactly what he needed: a skill that boosted sword attack power by 200%.
He was very satisfied.
Even the first soul skill of Jian Dao Chen Xin from the Seven Treasure Glazed Sect only increased attack by 30%. But that was because Chen Xin's soul ring was a mere hundred years old. Xiaotian's second soul ring was four thousand years old.
One day, Xiao Wu looked at him in disbelief.
"Xiaotian, what level are you really? Why can't I ever beat you?"
"Tell me honestly, is your soul power really that high?"
Xiaotian only chuckled.
"Your guess is right. I've already reached level twenty-four, higher than you."
Xiao Wu froze.
"You're not lying?"
Xiaotian smiled calmly. "My innate soul power isn't as high as yours, but do you remember what I told you before?"
"What did you say?" she blinked, confused.
Xiaotian lightly tapped her head. "I told you—I take a different path to cultivate."
Realization dawned on Xiao Wu.
"You mean you increase your soul power by tempering your sword will?"
She used to think he was joking, but now it all made sense.
No wonder Xiaotian practiced with his sword every day, even sleeping with it in his arms.
To prove it, two purple soul rings lit up around Xiaotian.
He didn't hide them—showing them might even motivate Tang San to work harder.
"Let's take off," Xiaotian said, spreading his ethereal sword wings.
Xiao Wu and Tang San watched in awe.
The trio's cultivation paths were becoming clearer, but mysteries still lingered—especially around Xiaotian's strange system and his ever-growing sword intent.
(Note: sword intent is an original element in this fanfic, not from the original Soul Land story.)
