Lynette flinched at his words. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out.
It wasn't her mistake. Did he really think she would starve herself just to get his attention? The food that the maids gave her had already rotten. When she protested, they told her that it was Daniel's order to give her the rotten food to eat.
Lynette's eyes dimmed even more than before. Whatever little hope she had, Daniel squashed it. There was no need to explain herself. He had already made up his mind. No one could change a person's image in someone's mind, especially if they are hated by that very same person. But in her case, he despised her very being.
Just as Lynette mustered her courage to say the truth, a paper hit her face. With trembling hands, she held the paper and read it. Her ears were buzzing as if her ears were beehives. She couldn't even hear his words anymore.
It was a notice of three days period, which she needed to sign before proceeding to sign the divorce papers. Apparently, Daniel didn't want her to linger in his house after the divorce.
Countless images flashed through her eyes.
The despising eyes of her family.
The cold and hurtful words thrown at her.
Her sister's smug look.
Daniel's indifference.
Ill-treatment from his family.
Every single thing became blur with each second.
Lynette didn't even know that she was crying. It was a crying full of despair and helplessness, yet at the same time... it was a silent cry.
How could Daniel do this to her? Lynette wanted to yell at him for his cruelty. For his merciless attitude.
"Why aren't you signing it? Do you have something in your mind?" sneered Daniel. He was tapping his foot against the floor. His gaze was fixated on Lynette, while stealing some glances at his watch.
Lynette's entire world crumbled. This paper in her hands was the result of her... love and devotion towards him. She felt as if the whole world was laughing at her. Eventually, after three days she would have to sign the divorce papers.
She has been harassed both mentally and physically by the ones she loved, especially by the one she loved the most.
Wiping her tears, Lynette asked, "W-what... w-would... I do after I-I sign... this?" Her words were full of stutters.
Daniel straightened his tie and answered, "Nothing would happen. You would just simply get out of my life. And don't even think to harass Emillia anymore. I. Am. Watching. You." His last words were full of warning.
"I-is it a-about... the party?"
Daniel's eyes turned cold. He wanted to lash out on her, but he controlled himself. Clenching his hands in a fist, he said, "No, it wasn't. It was way before that, Lynette. You have always been a wicked woman."
A 'wicked' woman?
Was that how he viewed her? Lynette looked into Daniel's eyes. His eyes had only hatred, disgust and anger towards her. Forget about love, he didn't even feel pity towards her.
Lynette knew it very well that Daniel was no longer going to listen. He would force her to divorce him, certainly because of the last week's party.
Her sister, Emillia, who they always consider as a kind, weak and innocent woman, tried to push her into the pool. It was because of a petty argument, which she started with her.
Lynette tried her best to reason with Emillia but she didn't listen. So, having left with no choice, she defended herself. By some accident, Emillia fell into the pool. And that was when everyone appeared. Both her husband and Emillia's husband rushed to save her. Even her brothers jumped into the pool to save her.
After saving Emillia, who acted as if she was the one who pushed her, everyone began condemning Lynette. She tried to defend herself, yet no one believed her. No one supported her. Family, friends, love... everyone and everything abandoned her. When she reached home, Daniel locked her inside this room as a punishment.
'How dare you?! Did you really tried to kill your sister?!' Those were the words Daniel spat at her face.
Lynette asked, "Did y-you... e-ever l-loved me?"
"No. Not for even a moment," sneered Daniel. How could she even think that? Her presence was extremely repulsive for him to bear. The only reason he was standing because he wanted her sign. The sooner it ended, the better it would be for him.
Lynette nodded absentmindedly. She took the pen from Daniel's hands and signed it.
Daniel's face brightened as if he had achieved all the happiness in his life. He snatched the paper from her hands. His eyes frantically scanned the paper, stopping at Lynette's signature.
"I will tell my lawyer to prepare the papers. You have two days' time. Pack all your belongings and leave the house." Daniel's voice was cold, yet his eyes were full of happiness.
Lynette's face was blank. But her insides were churning. Seeing his happiness was like getting impaled by a sword right through her chest. She wanted to cry... but she couldn't.
Did Daniel think divorcing her was the answer? Did he think Emillia would come to him because he divorced her? Lynette rubbed her arms, trying to make herself warm.
Emillia was no longer single. She had a husband, whom Lynette knew since childhood.
There was no way Emillia would divorce her husband and choose Daniel.
"You know Emillia is still married right?" asked Lynette.
Daniel stilled at her words. His eyes darted towards Lynette, who continued, "She won't divorce him. Emillia is... I-I... think you should be prepared for her answer—"
Lynette couldn't complete her words as a strong slap hit right across her face. Her body slammed into the hard mattress.
Daniel lowered his hand. His face was contorted with anger. He thought Lynette was mocking him, enjoying his pain. A wicked thought entered his mind, one that even he thought he wasn't capable of.
