Mallory, Darian and Vanessa arrived at Voss Tower early in the morning. Everything had been prepared but there was a lot of nervous energy in the house, and they thought it would be better spent at the office than at home.
You can only drink so much espresso before it just becomes pointless. Or dangerous. Even with System enhancements.
So they drove to the office and all rode the elevator to the 19th floor. The doors opened and they stepped out into the long hallway.
Morning light filtered in through the windows to their left, and several doors to the auditorium lined to wall to the right.
"Looks like it's all set up," Darian said. "Do you want to go over your speech again?"
Mallory sighed.
"No, I've got it all ready to go. I'm not really nervous as much as anxious to get it done."
She looked up at them and laughed quietly.
"Does that even make sense?"
Vanessa and Darian wrapped her in a hug, and they held on for a long time.
Just breathing together.
Finding strength in each other.
Finally, Mallory let go.
"I think I needed that," she said. "I'll be in my office prepping my notes. See you in a bit?"
Darian and Vanessa kissed her and entered the auditorium.
Shortly after, the staff started arriving to set up the bottles of water, coffee and tea at the refreshment stations.
Mallory decided to take the stairs up to the 20th floor, and entered her office.
She read her speech over twice more, made a few adjustments, and printed it out.
She sent the text to her assistant to be fed into the teleprompter, and leaned back in her chair.
"Elliot," she said aloud, "I hope you're watching. It's been a long road to this point, and we've got a ways to go. But I think we've been able to lay a solid foundation. I think you'd be proud."
Finally, as the 10:00 hour approached, she made her way back down to the 19th floor and prepared to give her speech.

Good morning, and welcome back to Voss Tower.
Thank you to the millions watching the livestream. I appreciate your attention.
[pause]
As of this morning, 6.8 billion people all over the world have now taken Vitalyx, and the endless reports of health conditions or all kinds being cured and reversed are both inspiring and humbling.
When Elliot Voss began pursuing his goal of curing humanity from all ills, it was such a preposterous vision that he didn't even dare to tell the CEOs of his own companies.
