~~~ [START]
Walking into his room, removing his mask, and then straightening his hair, Ken dropped his body onto the comfort of his bedsheets. Feeling their warmth, causing his body to slightly lose consciousness from their embrace.
"You know, when I got you that bed, I never thought you would laze around this early in the afternoon," Meg said, standing in the corner, reading a newspaper. She wore glasses, perhaps in an effort to make her seem more intelligent.
"Well, that's what you do when the person you bought it for basically made you a millionaire," Ken replied, his eyes half closed, paying no attention to her standing figure. "So…" he turned his half-open eyes toward her, "how much did you make this time?"
She glanced at him, half annoyed. Then she walked to the door. She stopped, looked back at Ken, her expression holding something primal, something that hinted at guilt. She sighed, opened the door, and walked out, leaving it to close by itself with her retreat.
"What was that about?" Ken whispered, his eyes half awake, but his vision shared with the crows hidden outside his room.
In the closet, as though replying to his whisper, a baby crow chirped, unknowingly causing a smile to slip onto his face.
Although Ken was responsible for Meg generating millions, he literally owned nothing. Not a thousand, not a penny, not even a cent.
This was the Gauntlet, not a business. So, the rules remained absolute. It didn't matter how much you contributed. It didn't care how long you fought. All that mattered was survival, a war between the fittest, and Ken understood that.
Although he didn't gain money, he got something more, something he deemed very valuable.
His Mei Mei Template had reached 100%.
Which meant he could now use all her moves, skills, and abilities.
Mei Mei's cursed energy, the way she used her crows, everything had now been mastered.
And thanks to the fact that Ken was fighting continuously, after the Template had reached 100%, he had gained new ones.
[Takuma Ino], a template he had used that very day.
However, because of its power, increasing its percentage was proving less efficient, which made him realize a major factor he had previously overlooked.
The stronger the 'Template', the harder it was to increase its percentage.
It had taken him close to a month to get it to only 8%. Which, for him, truly made no sense.
But conveniently, right before he got the [Takuma Ino] Template, he had gotten another one. One he had long since mastered. A 'Template' that was not only powerful but held the most potential. It was the...
Suddenly, before Ken could indulge deeper in his thoughts, the door flung open. Meg barged in.
She was smiling. The largest smile Ken had ever seen was imprinted on her face.
"Ken, he's here!" she said, causing him to rise in wonder.
"Who's here?" he asked, rubbing his eyes and fixing his posture.
Meg paused, hesitation halting her words.
"I… I forgot to tell you," she said, her smile weakening with each word. "There's this… guy who wants to see you."
Ken raised a brow.
"He says he will pay me… I mean us, 130 million, just for a meet." Her body neared him, excitement leaking with every step. "Just to meet Ken."
But Ken laughed, rolling back into the comfort of the bed, shaking his head.
"130 million?" He said, giggling. "That much? Never thought of you as someone who would easily fall for scams." He turned his body, fixing the bedsheets.
He then climbed off, walked toward her, giggles still lurking.
"And besides, I just need to fight 300 more times, and we can…" His words suddenly stopped. He couldn't believe what he was seeing.
Throughout their conversation, Ken had been secretly sending crows to scout this mysterious admirer she was talking about. But right there, staring back through the crows' shared vision, Ken's heart instantly started pounding. Fear, for the first time in a while, changed his face.
Ken turned his eyes to Meg, the woman standing right next to him.
"What have you done?" he whispered.
Meg's face twisted in confusion.
SWOO!
His hand shot out with haste, grabbing Meg's neck and tightening with monstrous pressure.
"What did you do?!" he shouted, sending shivers down her spine, his hand slowly applying more pressure. "You sold me out," he continued, eyes shining red, and his hair moving eastward from the energy they produced.
"Ken… wait… wait… please," she said, her voice struggling.
Ken, the devil responsible for her stutter, grew irritated by the sound of her voice. He didn't want to hear her, but he had to. He had to know. He had to listen.
"What did he offer?" He asked, his voice heavy with agency and visible aggression.
"A… a qui…" she tried to speak. "A… Quirk. He offered me a Quirk!" Then immediately, as if dazed by her own response.
"Kaichi," he whispered.
From the inside of her neck, forming shape in her vocal cords, growing in size and widening, destroying the passage of the epiglottis, a horned black and yellow arrow formed from nothing. It burst through her neck and split her head from her body in an instant.
Blood splashed onto the surrounding walls and half of Ken's face. The child who was holding a woman by the neck now resembled a monster. Her blood matched the color of his eyes, red, dark, and glowing.
"Shit," he said, running his hand through his hair, unbothered by the stains it left behind. Does he have a way to track her? He thought, noticing how the person was nearing. Rethinking his action, wondering if killing her had been a mistake.
He turned his head, his eyes locking on the door. Then he dashed for it, banging it open with a kick.
He turned to the hallway, using his crows to find an escape.
He started running, enhancing his feet with jujutsu, passing underworld residents at speeds that seemed inhuman.
This was the Gauntlet. A place with no other exits but one. He knew the direction. He knew where to go. Upwards.
So, he used his crows, dashing through the shortest of shortcuts in seconds.
He was currently using twelve crows to map the surrounding areas, moving through mostly deserted paths, making sure to prevent any chaos.
Then, a wall. It obstructed his way.
Ken didn't hesitate. He didn't overthink. He just covered his whole body with cursed energy, then dashed headfirst into its surface.
DOO!
A deafening roar shook the very ground. A wall, with concrete as strong as metal, shattered completely. He hadn't punched it or kicked it; he had passed through it like a train, using close to half his cursed energy to enhance his figure.
But right there, standing by the door, clearly blocking Ken's path.
It was 'Iron Wall.'
The same bouncer who had been responsible for letting Ken in. The same person who had acknowledged his capabilities.
A bodyguard to Ken's now-dead benefactor. The now soulless Meg.
