Chapter 29: Complete Marvel
February 2013: While the worst outcomes were avoided, the Battle of New York still left half the city in ruins. This alien invasion sparked deep concern among the UN Security Council and governments worldwide. You took this opportunity to disclose S.H.I.E.L.D.'s intelligence on the Skrulls and the Kree, revealing that hostile aliens had been targeting Earth since the 1960s. The Council took the threat seriously and authorized you to build a team capable of combating extraterrestrial threats. (You earned the achievement: Man in Black.)
March 2013: With your assistance, Tony Stark upgraded his Phoenix armor, adding an advanced exoskeleton and numerous high-tech weapons that even allowed him to fly without a separate craft. In your opinion, Tony had forged a new path for himself. Even without the Iron Man suit, he was one of the Avengers' strongest fighters—no less formidable than his counterpart, Batman.
April 2013: Doctor Strange visited the Avengers' headquarters at the Starlight Building. He explained that he had traveled back in time from the year 2018. In his timeline, the cosmic overlord Thanos had gathered all six Infinity Stones and, with a snap of his fingers, wiped out half of all life in the universe. Strange had searched over three thousand parallel universes, running tens of millions of simulations before finding the one timeline where they had a chance to defeat Thanos and save the world. He insisted that this single opportunity was only possible because of you.
The other Avengers were skeptical, but their doubts vanished when you ordered S.H.I.E.L.D. to confirm that another Stephen Strange was, at that very moment, working as a neurosurgeon in San Francisco. Doctor Strange stated that the only way to save the universe was to gather all six Infinity Stones before Thanos could and use them to wipe him from existence. The Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One, later appeared to confirm his plan but warned that doing so would likely exacerbate the Dark Dimension's erosion of Earth or create several new parallel universes.
Doctor Strange then summoned the Avengers from his parallel universe: Black Widow, the Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, an overweight Thor, and even the Guardians of the Galaxy. For the most part, things went smoothly, but this world's Thor and the portly Thor from the future—as well as the two Tony Starks—had trouble seeing eye to eye. You could understand their feelings; if you knew what a wreck you'd become in a few years, you'd be devastated, too.
May 2013: At the suggestion of Tony Stark, you helped form an organization called the Illuminati, composed of the smartest and wealthiest superheroes on Earth. Its purpose was to resolve crises threatening the planet and the universe itself. Its members included Winston, the two Tony Starks, the two Bruce Banners, Dr. Zola, Doctor Strange, Mister Fantastic, Black Panther, and the atomic physicist Hank Pym.
May to July 2013: Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Illuminati, Earth's technology advanced at an astonishing rate. In just three months, humanity made five years' worth of technological progress, even developing a spacecraft capable of interstellar travel.
August 2013: You traveled to Asgard via the Bifrost Bridge and, with Odin's consent, retrieved the Aether (the Reality Stone). While there, Thor was able to meet his deceased mother, and they shared a heartfelt embrace.
September 2013: You arrived on the planet Morag in search of the Power Stone. There, you encountered Gamora, Nebula, and Ronan, who had been sent by Thanos to find the same prize. Soon after, Thanos's mothership descended from the sky. Despite his formidable strength, Thanos was severely outmatched against two Tony Starks, two Captain Americas, two Hulks, and two Thors—not to mention Winston, who was every bit as capable as Captain America. You achieved a hard-fought victory, but you knew that if you had faced Thanos's entire army, the outcome might have been very different.
End of September 2013: You found the Cosmic Orb on Morag. Now, only the most mysterious of the six Infinity Stones remained: the Soul Stone.
November 2013: You arrived at Vormir, the planet where the Soul Stone lay hidden. Upon learning of the harsh sacrifice required to obtain it, Winston chose to give his life. He smiled and told you that as an ape, he had received so much from you—family and friendship—and now wished to return to the embrace of nature. From 1943 to 2013, a full seventy years, you had witnessed his transformation from a frail young primate into a war hero and then a superhero. He had faithfully accompanied you through seven decades of a lonely existence, never once leaving your side. Even you, long accustomed to life and death, felt a wave of profound sadness. But with his sacrifice, you had finally collected all six Infinity Stones.
January 2014: You traveled to the dwarf planet of Nidavellir, where the dwarf king, Eitri, helped you forge the Infinity Gauntlet. After setting the six stones into the gauntlet one by one, you put it on and snapped your fingers.
[Thanos, across 921,031 parallel universes, turned to ash.]
February 2014: The Avengers who had traveled through time returned to their own worlds. According to Doctor Strange, the slightest flap of a butterfly's wings can cause a hurricane thousands of miles away. Your actions have caused this single branching universe to split into thousands of new parallel universes. You can only hope they find peace in their own timelines.
[April 2014: After returning from Nidavellir, you held a funeral for Winston. Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter subsequently retired from S.H.I.E.L.D., bought a farm in the countryside, and began a quiet life together.]
[June 2014: Tony Stark fell in love with his secretary, Pepper Potts. He still missed his friend Winston and would occasionally call you to complain.]
March 2015: Freed from your burdens, you resigned as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and resumed your life as an ordinary person. Aside from busting the occasional criminal and hanging out with Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, you were no different from anyone else.
April 2022: You wake up in Brooklyn, 1941, penniless. Outside, traffic floods the streets and skyscrapers tower over you.
Summary: Congratulations, you have completed a brilliant and remarkable life. You have cleared this map! In this journey, your accomplishments surpass 99.99% of all other travelers.
