Chapter 50: The Second Pirate World
February 10, 1517. Today is the first day of your Observation Haki training with Garp. In truth, it was less like training and more like a beating. Afterward, you were at least able to calmly analyze your injuries. Just two broken ribs and some minor scrapes. Nothing major.
February 12, 1517. After a day of rest, the training continued. You're still covered in bruises. That old man is absolutely ruthless.
February 17, 1517. After a week of relentless training, you feel like you've gotten stronger, but you're also more beaten up than ever. At the very least, you've started dodging more of his attacks.
You have learned the universal skill: Dodge.
February 21, 1517. You finally reached the Gate of Justice. Gazing at the towering structure and the treacherous sea currents surrounding it, you could only marvel at the wonders of this world. That same day, you arrived at the Marine Headquarters, Marineford.
February 23, 1517. Upon arriving at the naval base, you discover a staggering 3,000 new recruits. While you're certainly not the strongest among them, you are definitely the most handsome. There are many strange beings in the ranks: some resemble wild boars, while others stand over five meters tall. Roger tells you he even saw one that looked like a baboon.
February 24, 1517. Today marks the start of boot camp. You're feeling ambitious. Having read your fair share of One Piece fanfiction, you, as a transmigrator, know that Zephyr's boot camp is the obvious choice. However, things don't go as planned. Garp's subordinate, Bogart, informs you that Zephyr has been in semi-retirement since last year. Your new instructor is a Vice Admiral named Strawberry, a man you've never even heard of.
February 25, 1517. You reported to the new recruit camp. Your instructor, Vice Admiral Strawberry, was a long-headed man with a flowing beard. You estimated his height to be 2.1 meters, with his head accounting for 0.7 of those meters. As a doctor of medicine, you couldn't help but think this was a condition that needed treatment.
March 2, 1517. The training at the new recruit camp isn't challenging enough for you. After mastering Armament Haki, you figure you wouldn't be at a disadvantage even against a Marine Captain from headquarters. Garp's special training, however, has only increased in intensity, leaving you with fresh scrapes every few days. On another note, Roger told you today that his memories are starting to return. With a consistent supply of food, he thinks the process might accelerate.
March 5, 1517. You found the library in Marineford, which is open to all sailors. Tucked away in a corner, you discovered a dusty book titled One Hundred Swordplay Techniques. You excitedly checked it out and found it was indeed a book teaching basic swordsmanship, with content that even Roger considered adequate. The final technique, however, left you a bit bewildered: if your swordsmanship proves insufficient, you should draw your musket and shoot the enemy. The name of this move was "Sir, times have changed."
You have learned the skill: Basic Swordplay (Elementary).
March 14, 1517. Your friendship with Roger has deepened during this time. You've discovered that Roger is a good man and a quick study. He has already learned quite a bit of modern vocabulary from you. You suspect he'd be able to adapt quickly if he were ever brought to the modern world.
March to April 1517. In addition to your basic training at boot camp, you studied swordsmanship and Armament Haki with Roger and trained in Observation Haki with Garp. You even found time to read in the library. Your Armament Haki and swordsmanship improved rapidly.
You have earned the achievement: Time Management Master.
April 6, 1517. The first recruit duel was held at the boot camp. You won first place with an overwhelming advantage. Vice Admiral Strawberry held you in high regard, believing you had the potential to become an admiral one day. As a prize, you received a flintlock pistol and a sharp sword. You tucked the flintlock into your coat, just in case. Times must change.
May 2, 1517. Today, you had a historic breakthrough in your Observation Haki training. You unexpectedly managed to dodge nearly half of Garp's attacks. It was as if you had divine assistance, a strange feeling where you could sense exactly where you were about to be hit. But Roger ruined the moment by telling you it wasn't a premonition—it was just a stress reaction from being beaten so often. Damn, that actually makes sense.
May 7, 1517. The training camp has entered its final phase. As the top recruit, you finally began learning one of the Six Powers: Shave. It is the simplest of the six, allowing for high-speed movement by stomping on the ground dozens of times in a split second to create an explosive burst of momentum. This doesn't seem difficult for you, but you figure it will take some time to master.
May 9, 1517. You seem to have underestimated yourself. After only two days of practice, you have already mastered Shave.
You have acquired the combat skill: Shave (Elementary).
June 2, 1517. The three-month boot camp concluded, and you undoubtedly graduated in first place. Your performance was said to be on par with a young Akainu's, and many believed you had the potential of a Captain or even a Rear Admiral. However, due to your short time in service, you were only promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Even so, you were considered the most outstanding Marine rookie in the last three years.
July 6, 1517. You were assigned to your instructor Strawberry's ship to begin your internship. Through the newspaper, you learned that your friend Ace had also set out to sea and had eaten the Flame-Flame Fruit. Thinking back to the days you spent together in Windmill Village a year ago, you had a feeling you would one day meet again on the seas.
August 1517. While sailing the first half of the Grand Line, you personally captured the first pirate of your career: Rhino Scylla of the Rhino Pirates, who had a bounty of 25 million berries.
September 1517 to March 1518. You performed exceptionally well aboard Vice Admiral Strawberry's ship, capturing twenty-three pirates of varying notoriety. You felt somewhat conflicted about it all, but Strawberry dismissed your concerns. He explained that while pirates may have their own laws, the Marines have their own duty, and capturing pirates is that duty. On February 14th, you discovered a strange-looking fruit on a pirate ship. You knew exactly what it was.
You have obtained an epic item: Devil Fruit. (Once removed from this world, this item can be added to the Hall of Wonders. Limit one.)
March 15, 1518. Roger told you that consuming a Devil Fruit would indeed make you stronger, but besides the sea's curse, there was another hidden danger he couldn't quite remember. You thought he was being a bit useless. Although you didn't fully trust Roger's hazy warning, you decided to hold onto the fruit for now.
March 20, 1518. You received a transfer order. You were promoted to Lieutenant Commander at Marine Headquarters and temporarily stationed at the Sabaody Archipelago. It's a strange island composed of massive trees, and it's bizarre in more ways than one.
April 3, 1518. A memorable day. While hunting pirates, you encountered Scratchmen "Roar of the Sea" Apoo, captain of the On Air Pirates and user of the Sound-Sound Fruit. You were initially overwhelmed, but you soon entered a strange state of heightened intuition—a kind of premonition. By concentrating, you could roughly predict Apoo's next move. You successfully turned the tables and captured him. He was a Supernova, a pirate with a bounty of 250 million berries! Even Vice Admiral Strawberry was shocked.
You have gained the skill: Observation Haki (Basic).
You have gained the achievement: Silence is Golden.
[April 1518 - June 1518] Your fame begins to spread throughout the Grand Line. You are hailed as the new hope of the Marines.
June 16, 1518. Thanks to your contribution in capturing Scratchmen Apoo, you were finally promoted to Captain. Strawberry told you that you'd have to reach the rank of Rear Admiral before you could command your own ship. He said that day wasn't far off.
June to October 1518. The Sabaody Archipelago Marine Base received an order from the higher-ups to recapture two Titan slaves from the Chobei Pirates. You were part of the pursuit team. By the time you cornered the two slaves, they had already reunited with their rescuers. Then, a scene so dramatic unfolded that you almost forgot you were supposed to be fighting.
To shield his escaping companions, one of the giants used his massive body as a wall, blocking the Marines' advance. He took every sword and bullet with his own flesh. Finally, with his last ounce of strength, he broke his own slave collar, triggering its self-destruct mechanism. His final words were: "For freedom."
Honestly, the giant wasn't that formidable; you could have easily handled him yourself. But for some reason, you sensed a unique strength in him—a strength that showed the sea wasn't just about the survival of the fittest, but also about courage, loyalty, and freedom. Unconsciously, a new power sprouted within you.
You have gained the skill: Conqueror's Haki (Elementary).
