The interrogation of Absalom wasn't hidden at all — Kakuzu and the others made no effort to conceal it, and the Straw Hat Pirates could see everything clearly.
The bloody scene didn't scare them much. After all, every one of them was a pirate with a story — a little gore and twisted cruelty wasn't enough to shake them… though there were exceptions, like Usopp's trembling legs and Chopper hiding behind him.
The rest weren't frightened, only frowning as they watched Hidan stabbing himself — though the reasons behind their frowns varied.
For instance, Robin frowned because Kakuzu had displayed three distinct abilities: tangible clones, water manipulation, and transforming his body into tentacles.
It was well known that a person could only eat one Devil Fruit — and possess only one power.
While some fruits allowed for broader development — like the Float-Float Fruit, which could manipulate air, water, or even sand depending on mastery — that was still just one ability used in different ways, completely different from Kakuzu's case.Clones, water control, tentacles — they were utterly unrelated powers.
"What exactly is his ability?" Robin pondered with furrowed brows. "Could there actually be a way to eat multiple Devil Fruits without your body exploding?"
Her curiosity was strong, but that was clearly someone else's secret. Robin had no reason to risk offending a dangerous group — especially when at least three of them were ability users.
While her thoughts wandered, the interrogation continued. Yet no matter how Hidan tortured Absalom, he refused to reveal even the slightest information about Gecko Moria — his lips sealed tight with unshakable loyalty.
For people with such unwavering devotion, Chiyo and the others felt both admiration and annoyance. The reason for both was obvious enough.
Once they realized Absalom's loyalty couldn't be broken, Kakuzu stopped Hidan from continuing. Instead, he decided to use Absalom to provoke Moria himself.
Anger clouds reason — and when reason falters, mistakes follow.
If Moria didn't care about Absalom, that was fine too. It was worth a try, and Kakuzu already had his rewards secured.
He grabbed Absalom and leapt onto the back of a clay dragon, the others following close behind. Nami and the Straw Hats climbed up via the ladder Robin had formed.
The dragon spread its wings and soared toward the island of ruins and shadows.
After a short flight, it descended at a place that looked like a port. Why not fly straight to the island's center?Because Kakuzu still hadn't given up on gathering more information about Gecko Moria.
Kakuzu thought to himself: There's no way everyone on this island is loyal to Moria. Try enough people, and one traitor will turn up.
Following the broken road inland, the group encountered all sorts of strange creatures — three-headed dogs, zombies, and worse. But none provided much useful information until they stumbled upon a few survivors barely clinging to life within the island's ruins. Finally, some valuable intel.
"There aren't many crew members left," Kakuzu said thoughtfully.
"Deidara," he called, "fly around the island and check if there are any people with positive values."
"Got it."
Deidara mounted his clay bird and took to the sky, circling the island and scanning for any World Government members who registered as "positive."
Once Deidara was airborne, Kakuzu turned to Lola."Can you contact the other victims on this island?"
"I can," Lola replied, puzzled. "Why do you ask?"
Those who'd lost their shadows to Moria tended to stick together — safety in numbers made survival easier among the island's hordes of zombies.
"Good. Tell them to move toward the edge of the island," Kakuzu said, glancing toward the distant castle. "I'm preparing a gift for Moria."
His meaning was clear — a battle was coming, and anyone remaining inland risked being caught in the crossfire.
"I'll inform them right away."Lola and her followers vanished at once.
Moments later, a large group of people ran past Kakuzu, heading toward the island's perimeter.
At the same time, Deidara finished his aerial survey. There were no positive readings — though he did notice one lively skeleton sprinting toward the castle.
Deidara messaged Kakuzu privately:
Deidara: "Kakuzu, I've confirmed everything."Kakuzu: "Then use your most powerful technique. Let Moria know we're here."
"My most powerful technique…" Deidara looked down at his chest, then shook his head.
He wasn't ready to die yet — he didn't feel like meeting the Sage of Six Paths so soon.
If he couldn't use his ultimate technique, the next best one would do.
"C3: No. 18!"
Riding his clay bird, Deidara circled the crumbling castle, dropping humanoid clay dolls one after another. As they fell, each began to expand rapidly.
Such an obvious display couldn't go unnoticed — the zombies inside the castle spotted him at once and hurried to report to Moria, Perona, and Hogback.
The three of them immediately sensed something was wrong. Without overthinking, Moria and Perona acted at once, launching attacks to stop him.
A swarm of dark bats and a flight of translucent ghosts shot toward Deidara in the sky.
"Tch, discovered so quickly, hmm…" Deidara clicked his tongue. He'd hoped to drop a few more clay dolls — to let his art shine at its most radiant.
But if he delayed now, he'd be taken down before he could even trigger them.
"No choice," he muttered. "A spark of art is better than none at all, hmm!"Forming seals, he shouted, "Haa!!!"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The airborne and ground-laid clay dolls erupted one after another. Explosions strong enough to wipe out villages fused together, combining into a cataclysmic blast.
A blazing hemisphere of fire swelled outward, racing across the island. The shockwave carried unimaginable heat, obliterating everything in its path — buildings, trees, rocks, even zombies — all turned to ash under the consuming flames.
"Oooh~~!" Deidara pulled his clay bird higher, avoiding the blast, his eyes gleaming as he whispered with reverence, "Beautiful… truly beautiful. As expected of me."
At the island's edge, the scorching wind swept past. The evacuees stumbled backward, their hair whipping wildly as they stared, wide-eyed and trembling, at the massive explosion in the island's center — awe and terror mingling on their faces.
"Will that explosion be enough to kill Gecko Moria?" Kakuzu asked, watching Lola's exaggerated expression of fear.
At his question, Lola straightened her face, thought seriously for a moment, and replied, "I'm not sure. I don't know exactly how strong Moria is… but if he was prepared, that blast alone might not be enough to kill him."
Though Lola wasn't much of a fighter, she was still Big Mom's daughter — her eye for strength was sharp.
