Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 The Island Begins to Burn

"Ugh-!"

Saul opened his eyes from his unconscious state to find himself covered in bandages.

His gaze traveled upward, landing on Robin, who was crouched on a small hill.

"Did you bandage me up? Thank you!"

The Giant's broad hand reached out and, without a second thought, bopped Robin on the head.

"By the way, my name is Saul. Jaguar D. Saul."

"D?"

Robin, who had been about to tell him the truth, was instantly captivated by Saul's middle name.

"This? I'm not really sure either. I just know everyone in my family has this letter."

"Dereshishishi!"

Saul retracted his massive hand, scratched his head, and then burst into laughter.

"What a strange laugh!" Robin, hugging her knees, looked at Saul and laughed too, "My name is Nico Robin. And also, I wasn't the one who bandaged your wounds!"

"I was the one who bandaged you, you ungrateful giant!"

A large, cooked sea beast steak was thrown, stuffing itself right into Saul's throat and cutting off his laughter.

"Mmph?"

Saul swallowed the thing whole. Turning his head, he saw the pink-haired girl panting in the distance.

"Sakura-chan!"

The Giant's eyes lit up first, then his expression turned grim.

"Right, something terrible has happened..."

"This is Ohara. I know!"

Unlike his panic, Sakura had come to Ohara specifically for the achievement points she could farm here and was naturally mentally prepared.

But Saul, whose ship she had intercepted and who hadn't been pursued by the Marines, was different. He had still drifted to Ohara following the original work's trajectory.

'What could I say? Was it some unseen force guiding everything?'

Sakura sighed softly, staring intently at her raised palm.

'Maneuvering through a future anchored by all sorts of bizarre Devil Fruit' Abilities, even precognitives... it was truly... exhilarating!'

"Then what should we do? That's a country-destroying level of military force!"

Saul's two large hands ruffled his lion-like mane into a mess. He slammed onto the ground, raising a huge cloud of dust.

"Wait, what are you talking about? Why can't I understand?"

"Hey, Sakura-chan, tell me!"

Robin, watching the two speak cryptically, anxiously stepped forward and grabbed Sakura's hand.

"The scholars of Ohara Island and the Tree of Knowledge have been targeted by the World Government. They've issued an annihilation order called the Buster Call!"

"Annihilation... Sakura, you're lying to me, right?"

Robin covered her mouth, taking two steps back, her pupils and eyebrows trembling violently.

"If you look from the west side of the island now, you should already be able to see the World Government's battleships. Your mother should also be almost at the island by now!"

Sakura's mood was also heavy. After all, she had to tell such a young child that her homeland was about to be destroyed.

"I don't believe it!"

Closing her eyes, Robin used her ability to create a staircase and ran directly towards the distant town.

Saul reached out to stop the child who had also helped him, but he couldn't reach her.

He could only turn his head and look pleadingly at Sakura, "Sakura-chan..."

"Saul!"

Sakura's low voice made the giant straighten up.

"I'm going to help them. Are you coming with me?"

Sakura swept over with her Observation Haki and heard the commotion in the distant town. She then used Soru and vanished.

"Ah, I... I really am... a big fool!"

The Giant roared as he stood up, striding forward in the direction the two girls had disappeared.

At the same time-

On the northwest side of Ohara Island, four ships filled World Government's agents had arrived.

"Hey, don't dawdle! I won't forgive you if you delay my promotion."

A man in a black overcoat, chewing on a cigar, stepped off the boat.

"Listen up. One task is to control the scholars. The other is to search for evidence of their crimes."

"Yes! Spandine-sama!"

The World Government's agents, armed with guns and cannons, answered in unison. They entered the town of Ohara, smashing and burning the homes of residents, searching for any evidence that could be used to convict the scholars.

Soon, flames and chaos began to spread across the island. The peaceful life of Ohara's residents was completely shattered after this day.

"Guehehe! I think I can already hear the sound of my career soaring!"

Walking through the burning town with an arrogant swagger, Spandine waved his arms as if conducting the flames.

Passing through the streets, Spandine and his group arrived at the exterior of the Tree of Knowledge.

A large number of CP9 agents stood here, and many scholars had already been captured.

"Wahahahaha, is everything proceeding smoothly, everyone?"

Spandine crossed his arms, walking up to the scholars.

"Yes, sir. You've worked hard as well, Chief."

One by one, agents in black suits stood straight, saluting the man with his hands in his pockets.

Suddenly, the grass by the edge of the woods rustled, making a slight noise that caught Spandine's attention.

"Hey, you! Go check it out!"

Spandine randomly pointed at an agent beside him.

The sound of steps from Soru rang out as a CP9 Agent with a white ponytail went over, hauled back a young girl, and threw her to the ground.

"Government bastards! The child is innocent!"

Clover, held at gunpoint, saw that Robin had been captured. Bloodshot veins spread across his widened eyes.

A group of people broke through the CP9 Agents. Clover stepped forward and pulled Robin into his embrace, while the other scholars used their bodies to shield the two.

"Hah? Who cares! The mission I received was to not let a single scholar escape!"

Spandine raised his eyebrows, revealing a ferocious grin.

Just then, the Den Den Mushi in his hand rang, reporting the discovery of evidence that the scholars had been studying the Poneglyphs.

"Well then, scholars of Ohara! Today, you are guilty of a capital crime!"

Confirming the mission's completion, Spandine raised his hands high, signaling to the agents around him.

The agents holding guns and cannons received the order. They chambered rounds into their weapons and aimed at the scholars.

"All that's left is to report to the Five Elders, and then..."

Just as this gleeful man reached into his coat for the Den Den Mushi, the song of a blade rang out, crossing a vast distance to slash at him!

"What?"

Although Spandine was weak, his CP9 Agent's background allowed him to barely twist his body.

The agents guarding his sides detected the attack. Both stepped in front of him, shouting in unison, "Tekkai!"

"Divine Departure!"

Black lightning crackled in the void. A sword light that illuminated everyone's faces cried out shrilly, tearing a lasting crimson scar across the sky.

Clang-!

Using their bodies to directly block a Great Swordsman's slash, the outcome for the two CP9 agents was clear. A massive wound piercing through their chests gushed blood. The two fell to the ground, their eyes rolling back.

Sakura seized the chance to rush to Spandine's side. She punched him while simultaneously snatching the golden Den Den Mushi from his coat.

Then, alternating between Soru and Geppo, her afterimages flickered. Sakura's figure appeared before the scholars, tilting her head and giving them a peace sign.

"The Buster Call... successfully stopped!"

Spandine, who had been sent tumbling away, stared in shock, his mouth agape. The scholars and agents nearby showed identical expressions of astonishment.

"Eh-?!"
