Chapter 49 - Aftermath

For two days, Silver barely recognized herself. She went to class, but the lectures slid past her like static—Professor Hammond's voice droning about Victorian literature while she stared at the Gothic windows of the lecture hall, watching snow dust the stone ledges outside. The words "social criticism" and "industrial revolution" might as well have been spoken in another language. She took notes mechanically, her pen moving across the page without her brain processing a single concept.
