Silver had texted Eli after hearing about the practice incident, but he hadn't responded.
That should've been the end of it. She should've left it alone, focused on her own problems. Her mother was flying to New Haven. That was more than enough to deal with.
But she couldn't stop thinking about it. About him losing control. About what could've made him snap.
The first thing Silver noticed was the blood.
Not much, just a thin smear across Eli's jaw, dried into the corner of his mouth. But enough to freeze her where she stood.
She had been on her way to the rink, bag slung over her shoulder, headphones in, mind half on her latest physiotherapy milestone. It was supposed to be a quiet afternoon. Stretch, a few off-ice drills, maybe peek through the viewing window and watch the hockey team wrap up practice.
Instead, she walked straight into a storm.
