Asher's POV
"Duck!" I tackled Maya to the ground as an arrow whistled over our heads. Luna, who'd been walking between us, dropped into a crouch without being told, moving far too skillfully for a child who should barely be able to walk.
"They found us again," Maya gasped, pulling Luna close.
Three months since fleeing Shadow Creek, and Orion's hunters still tracked us. We had hardly rested for over two nights in one location.
"In this manner," I murmured, leading them to a concealed trail I had noticed before. The mountain woods offered decent shelter, yet we couldn't remain unprotected for too long.
The crack of a branch made me freeze. Someone was close, too close. I inhaled the scent around me, detecting an unknown aroma.
"Bring us the child," a voice beckoned from the trees. "Today, no one else should die."
