After the introductory speech everyone was sent away to their rooms, not that Klein minded. Talking to Fors was enjoyable, but there were still several things he had to test and research.
Mainly his aspect ability and divination. He knew divination was essentially answering questions through a medium, but Klein was completely lost on the specifics. As for his aspect ability, he wanted to wait till he got matches or a lighter. He didn't know how his ability worked exactly but it was a safe bet he couldn't use [Flame Control] without fire.
It didn't take long for Klein to reach his room, and it was very simple dorm. Like the others it had a bed, a bathroom, and a fake window, but he wasn't complaining. It was better than his room in the outskirts after all.
Taking in the view of his room, Klein immediately turned around and left.
I don't have a communicator, so if I want to research divination I need to go to the library.
Divination was the first thing on Klein's checklist, thanks to his [Seer] attribute. The library had free computers for research, so that was Klein's goal. It was never closed, meaning he had all the time in the world, and it was near the sleeper dorms which was a nice bonus.
The library was large and filled with shelves and books, but Klein beelined straight for the free access terminals in the back. He was sure there were books on divination somewhere in there, but using the internet would be way faster.
Taking a seat, Klein began typing into the search bar.

Learning about divination didn't take nearly as long as Klein originally thought, only taking a few hours. In fact, if he was being honest, divination was quite simple.
Divination had four main components. A question, a medium, a connection, and an answer.
Basically, you would use a medium, like tarot cards, to ask a question, and infer an answer based on the results. You would also need a connection to the subject of the divination. For example, if you were divining about a person, you would need a piece of their hair or something similar.
Almost all divination functioned this way, only varying in mediums and questions asked. You use a pendulum for yes or no answers, a dowsing rod or cane for finding things, while some methods like dream divination were more all-encompassing.
May the gods bless whoever wrote all these articles. Divination is pretty simple, but I couldn't imagine figuring all this out on my own.
I'm currently limited to dream divination since I don't have any materials, but it should still be useful in figuring out my abilities. I can use it to check my memories as well.
This was the main reason Klein chose to research divination before anything else, so he could use it to learn about his abilities and memories.
Klein got up from the computer to head back to his dorm; however, as he was walking back, he saw Fors, sitting at her own computer struggling with something.
Altering his path so he walked behind her, Klein stole a quick glance at her screen. He still didn't know if his intuition yesterday was a warning or not, so he figured it would be best to have as much information on her as possible.
Her screen was currently on an article describing various stars and constellations.
A star chart? Why is she researching that? Does she plan on navigating the Dream Realm with stars? But there are classes for that, so why come here. Maybe it's related to an attribute... And why is she so stressed.
Continuing past her like nothing happened, Klein left the library and went straight to his room. It was pretty late, but he still wanted to test a few things and put all his divination research into practice.
Before all of that though, Klein wanted to check his soul sea.
Closing his eyes, he reached into his soul, and with the help of the Nightmare Spell, easily entered his soul sea.
Soul seas were described as brilliant suns hovering over calm lakes; however, Klein's was nothing like that. Instead, his soul sea was filled with an endless expanse of gray fog. Floating in mid-air was a dark blue illusory orb, with two crimson lights swirling around it.
T-This is my soul sea? It doesnt look what everyone described, is mine special somehow? It's filled with gray fog, it must be related to my aspect. It gave me the [Gray Fog] attribute after all.
Looking around, all Klein could see was the endless gray fog, so instead he focused his intention on the two red stars swirling around his soul core.
Those must be the memories I received. I should probably check them out.
Calling the two lights down to him, he could see the objects suspended inside. The first was a set of plain black robes, while the other was a necklace. It had a pendant depicting an upside-down giant on it. The giant had its armed spread, like it was on a cross, and a single vertical eye.
Opening his runes, Klein found his memories and examined them.
Memory: [Shadow's Veil]
Memory Rank: Ascended
Memory Type: Armor
Memory Description: [The servants of the lord hide in the shadows, working for his glory to descend beyond the veil and slaughter the lambs of the land.]
Thats not creepy at all...
Memory: [Hanged Giant]
Memory Rank: Transcendent
Memory Type: Charm
Memory Description: [A truly divine god cannot be seen, hear, understood, or even comprehended. They are above the concept of morality and have transcendent the world of man. Even trying to reach one is a fatal mistake.]
Why are both of these so ominous. I probably should have expected this considering where they came from. But they're both high ranks so they should be incredibly powerful.
Exiting his soul sea, Klein's immediately walked to the center of his room, having decided to try out his memories.
White sparks swirled around him, forming into the black robes he had seen before. He decided to start with [Shadow's Veil] because armor memories were usually simple.
The robes were light and comfortable, which was nice, but made Klein worry about how well they would actually protect him.
He began walking around, testing the mobility when he realized his footsteps weren't making noise. He tried walking a bit heavier, but his steps were still silent.
The description mentioned hiding in shadows, is this a stealth memory?
Most people would rather have protection over stealth, but Klein was actually overjoyed to have a stealth memory, since he had no intention of fighting anything. Klein had zero combat practice and didn't even have a weapon, so he would much rather sneak past things than get into a fight with them.
High rank memories truly are wonderful. Surely the other one is just as useful.
Klein immediately summoned the [Hanged Giant], hoping for another strong effect; however, the moment the sparks finished forming the pendant, and indescribable shouting filled his head.
Roars and ravings pounded Klein's head as he collapsed instantly from pain. He felt like his brain was being stabbed by hundreds of searing hot needles, the shouts drowning out everything.
Writhing on the ground, clutching his head, Klein couldn't even conjure up enough lucidity to dispel the memory.
Suddenly, however, gray fog flooded his vision, muffling the shouts and clearing his head. The second Klein could think straight he dispelled the [Hanged Giant] and everything fell silent.
Klein stayed on the ground, reeling from the effects of the charm.
My own memory attacks me... That's horrible, how am I supposed to use it. Is it because I can't use essence yet. Transcendent memories usually have activated enchantments, so maybe you have to use essence to silence it.
My [Gray Fog] attribute must have triggered to protect me. I knew it was going to be a handy attribute.
Klein was snapped out of his stupor by a commotion coming from the hallway. Shakily standing up and dispelling [Shadow's Veil], Klein headed towards the door to see what was going on, when the speaker system suddenly came to life.
"All sleepers and awakened, a powerful mind attack was just detected injuring several sleepers on campus, everyone is to go on lock down, effective immediately!"
Ah...
Apparently, there's a range to it...
Sorry, everyone...
